Although ear piercing seems like an easy thing, actually ear piercing is not easy (difficult) and a little risky. However, if you really want to get your ears pierced (because you want to imitate your idol or because you really like getting your ears pierced) you can follow the steps in getting your ears pierced in a safe way below. But make sure you ask your parents for permission first.

Part 1 of 3: Piercing Preparation
Step 1. Use 70% isopropyl alcohol to clean your ears
This is done so that your ears are clean of bacteria. Wait for it to dry first.
You can also use hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol to clean your ears
Step 2. Make a mark to be pierced on your ear
This is important so that your piercing is positioned exactly where you want it, as your piercing may be bent, too high or too low. If you have both ears pierced, don't forget to look in the mirror to make sure the marks you make are clearly visible.
If you intend to pierce more than one at a time, make sure the piercing area is properly spaced between the piercings so that when you wear the earrings it won't look lumpy. Similarly, the distance between piercings should not be too far because it will look weird
Step 3. Know that getting your own ear pierced is not easy to do yourself
Need the help of a professional in doing it both for safety and hygiene (sterilization). If you get your ears pierced by yourself, the chances of getting an infection are even greater. So think again about your choice before doing it. If you really intend to get your ears pierced by yourself, you can follow these steps.
Step 4. Purchase sterile piercing needles
Piercing needles have a cavity in the center so that it will be easier for you to put on the earrings after you get pierced. Avoid sharing piercing needles with other people, this can cause you to get an infection. Sterile piercing needles are available online, or at beauty supply stores.
- Make sure to use a piercing needle that is larger than the earring needle you are going to use.
- You can choose to purchase your own piercing kit, which comes with a pre-sterilized hole punch spring. You can buy it at beauty supply stores. However, make sure you follow the instructions for use when using it.
Step 5. Choose the earrings you will use
The best option for beginners is to have a piercing in the lower earlobe or the cartilage in the ear. Piercing needles measuring 16 or 10mm long are the best choices, because this size will make it easier to pierce the thickness of the ear and also make it easier to widen the piercing.
- Some jewelry stores sell a variety of earrings that have sharp needles. These earrings are good to use because they can make your piercing look better.
- If you want nicer earrings, buy earrings that have a good metal quality, such as earrings made of silver or titanium. Good quality metal, will prevent your ear from infection or allergy. Because some people have allergies if using a lower quality metal for example plated metal.
Step 6. Sterilize the piercing by placing the tip of the needle on the fire
Avoid using needles that have been used by others, because the piercing needles used must be sterile. Allow the tip of the needle to heat up. And remember, you must wear gloves (sterile latex gloves) when doing this, this is to avoid the bacteria on your hands from being spread to the piercing needle. Be sure to remove the by-products of burning. Next, clean the piercing by wiping 10% alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on the needle. However, this is only for the partial sterilization process meaning it does not kill all the bacteria present on the needle. The only tool used to fully sterilize is to use an autoclove.
You can sterilize your piercing by using boiling water. By the way, when the water starts to boil, put the needle in it and wait for about 5 to 10 minutes. Then remove the needle, and don't forget to use gloves (sterile latex gloves). Then clean the needle by wiping the liquid alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on the needle
Step 7. Wash your hands with clean water and use soap
This is to clean the bacteria that may be on your hands. Reuse gloves (sterile latex gloves) after that.
Step 8. Don't let your hair get in the way of the ear you're going to pierce
Because it is feared that your hair will be trapped between the ear that you pierce and the earring. If possible tie your hair when you will pierce your ears.
Part 2 of 3: Piercing Your Ears
Step 1. Find something strong that can hold the back of your ear
This is useful to avoid accidents to the ear when you are piercing. You can use cork or bar soap. Avoid using apples or potatoes as in some films it is a practice to use them as earplugs. Because you will not know whether the apple or potato is free from bacteria.
If possible, ask your friend for help when getting your ears pierced. Either they help to hold the holder behind your ear or if you trust your friend, your friend pierced your ear. Because the process of ear piercing will be easier if someone helps
Step 2. Place the needle in the right position
The position of the needle should be perpendicular to the ear. This means that you should position the needle with the mark you made on the ear at a 90 degree angle. With this position, it will be easier for you in the process of piercing your ears.
Step 3. Hold your breath and slowly insert the piercing needle into your ear
Make sure you pierce in the area you marked earlier. Don't be surprised when you hear a sound when your ear is pierced. Shake the needle when it begins to puncture, do so until the needle has pierced everything. If you are using a needle that has a cavity, you can insert the earring needle directly into the cavity.
Step 4. Prepare the earrings that you will wear
After your ear has been pierced by the piercing needle, allow the piercing to stick first. Then position the earring needle in your ear, push the end of the piercing using the earring needle until the position of the piercing needle that is attached is released and the earring needle is stuck in the hole you made earlier. This will allow the earring to fit comfortably into your ear.
Step 5. Remove the piercing needle slowly, and make sure the earrings are securely attached to your ears
Usually doing this will be a little painful, but be sure not to rush into doing it, because you may not want your piercing to fail so you have to start the piercing again.
Be aware that if the hole in the ear that you have pierced is not immediately put on the earring, within a few minutes the hole will close again. Or if your earring suddenly comes off, immediately put it back on and readjust it to the hole that was pierced earlier. If you don't do that, then you may start your piercing all over again
Part 3 of 3: Treating Pierced Bangs
Step 1. Do not remove the earrings for 6 weeks
After 6 weeks, you can remove the earrings to replace them with other earrings, but as soon as possible. Because if you leave your ear that has been pierced without using earrings, then the hole that was pierced will be closed again.
Step 2. Clean your piercing regularly
Wash your ear with a warm saline solution, as salt water can clean the piercing and can reduce the risk of infection. Wash with this salt water until your ear is fully healed (approximately 6 weeks). Never try to clean your ears with alcohol.
- An easy way to clean your ears is to use a small cup that is the same size as your ear (a 250 ml cup is the best size), then add a salt water solution to it. Use a towel under the cup (this is useful for holding water that falls). Position yourself lying on the couch or somewhere else. Then slowly soak your ears in the salt water, about 5 minutes.
- You can also use a cotton swab that has been moistened with a saline solution and then rub it on your ear.
- There is also another solution, especially for a newly pierced person, is to use an antiseptic. You can get them at beauty supply stores. Its use is the same, namely by wetting a cotton swab with the antiseptic and then rubbing it on your ears once a day.
Step 3. Twist your earrings when you clean your ears
Also clean the parts of the earring starting from the part of the ear that is in front of your ear to behind the ear. Also turn the earrings when cleaning them. This is useful for making your piercing perfect.
Step 4. Replace the earrings with new ones
Do this if it's been 6 weeks from the start of the piercing. Do it quickly when you are going to replace old earrings with new ones and don't forget to clean the pierced hole first.
Good earrings to use are earrings made of 100% real steel, titanium or niobium. Because earrings that have these materials will not cause infection compared to earrings made of worse

- Make sure if you sleep not using a pillow that has a loose cover, because your earrings may stick to the pillow.
- You can also use painkillers before you get your ear piercing to reduce pain.
Warning
- Don't let your piercing get infected. If this happens, do not remove the piercing. This serves to prevent the infection from spreading to other areas. Rinse your ears constantly with salt water. If the infection persists, contact a doctor.
- Have your ear pierced by an expert rather than doing it yourself.
- never ever You try to pierce with a sharp weapon, used earrings or other items such as safety pins etc. Because the basic ingredients of these tools are not made for ear piercing.
