Your happiness after getting your ears pierced may diminish when you find out that this is in conflict with work, school, or parental rules. However, you shouldn't remove and put on your new piercing over and over again for 6 weeks to allow the wound to heal. Luckily, there are a few tricks you can use to hide your new earrings. In addition, there are other ways that can be used after the first 6 weeks of recovery has passed.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Hiding Newly Pierced Ears
Step 1. Wear the earrings continuously for 6 weeks
If you have recently pierced your ears, do not remove the earrings for any reason. Removing earrings before 6 weeks is at risk of causing bruising, bleeding, closing the piercing hole, and increasing the risk of infection.
- This step is very important! If you're unsure whether you'll be able to wear your earrings for 6 weeks, it's a good idea to hold off on getting your ear pierced until it's more comfortable. You can temporarily use thong earrings without having to commit to a long term. Plus, magnetic earrings are also available if you want to try a cartilage piercing.
- Cartilage piercing recovery takes even longer time, which is between 3-12 months.
Step 2. Cut a small inexpensive earring holder ball
If you decide to get your ear pierced and use the smallest earring, you can remove the back then push it forward as much as possible (as long as it's still inside the ear), and cut the retaining ball with wire scissors. After returning the earrings to their normal position and changing the back, they will look more like tiny moles.
It's a good idea to ask someone else for help and be sure to be careful when using wire clippers near your ears
Step 3. Cover with a skin tone bandage
The key here is "disguise". This step will not completely hide the ear piercing, it will only hide the earrings. Try this step if you don't need to keep your piercing a secret, but just need to disguise it.
- This method is useful when you are exercising or doing physical activities. However, make sure the organizers of the sporting event you participate in allow your ears to be pierced.
- Various combinations of plasters and sports bandages can be used to do the same.
Step 4. Unravel your long hair
Long hair (for the purposes here, which can cover an ear piercing) is great for hiding the piercing. Consider lengthening your hair before getting your piercing, especially if you feel you have to hide it.
- Allow the hair to grow a few inches beyond the ear piercing so it will be covered as long as you move.
- This method is generally effective for hiding cartilage piercings in both men and women because even relatively short hair can still cover the ear.
- For occasions that require you to tie your hair, keep it in a short ponytail so that some of the hair still hangs over your ears even when tied back.
Step 5. Wear a scarf and hat if appropriate
This may not work in all situations (it's hard to explain why you wear a scarf over your ears to dinner at home, of course), but it can be quite useful if you work in a cold environment, or commute to and from school. Beanies, bandanas, and fur hats can be pulled up to cover the ears to hide the piercing.
A baseball cap can also help, as it will push the hair down so that it covers the ears more
Step 6. Give proper care to the newly pierced ear
For a few days after getting pierced, both your nostrils and earlobes should be gently cleaned with rubbing alcohol. Use a cotton ball or cotton ball to rub the rubbing alcohol on both areas twice a day. Your earrings will look even more pronounced if the area around them is inflamed!
- Always wash your hands before cleaning earrings and piercings.
- Recommendations as to whether earrings should be twisted vary; some recommend that the earrings be twisted slightly before going to bed, while others suggest that this should not be done at all. Follow the advice of your piercer. Meanwhile, twisting and moving the earrings constantly is generally not recommended.
Part 2 of 2: Keeping the Earrings Secret
Step 1. Remove the earrings when needed
It may be easy enough, but after the first 6 weeks have passed, you should only remove your earrings in situations where it is necessary. Piercing holes can indeed close again in an unpredictable time. However, most likely, this hole would not close within a day or two.
- If nothing is filled, most piercings will close again within a few days to a few weeks.
- A thin membrane will grow to cover the hole, but not make it close tightly. Jewelry can usually be put back through this hole without severe pain. Try lubricating the area with an antibiotic ointment if this is difficult for you.
- If you have to remove your earrings for a long time, the piercing hole that was closing can also be reopened.
- Unlike earlobe piercings, cartilage piercings can be left empty for a long time without closing. However, as previously explained, the recovery period for cartilage piercings is also much longer than ear lobe piercings.
Step 2. Use a quartz holder
Clear quartz jewelry can be worn to keep the piercing open without attracting attention. Although it can still be seen clearly, clear jewelry must be observed from close enough to be detected.
- Although it may be considered, clear acrylic jewelry is not recommended due to quality issues.
- Clear jewelry is not recommended as the first earring. The first earrings after piercing should be made of 14 karat gold or stainless steel because they are less likely to cause infection and swelling. Other metals can also trigger allergic reactions.
Step 3. Choose a skin tone jewellery
Tiny skin-colored earrings can also disguise the piercing like clear jewelry, and may even be harder to detect. On stretched ears, even if they are difficult, the piercing will be better disguised with leather-colored jewelry.
These jewelry are made of various materials, such as acrylic and various types of silicone
Step 4. Use concealer on the piercing
If you want to completely hide your ear piercing, remove the earring and dab a small amount of concealer or foundation around it. Make sure to choose a color that suits your skin.
Step 5. Turn your attention to the other piercing
If you don't want your new piercing to get too much attention, try choosing larger pieces of jewelry, gems, or earrings for your old piercing. If the old piercing is more eye-catching, your new piercing won't stand out as much.
Step 6. Consider your environment
Even if you really want to wear certain earrings, or want to look more stylish with spiked, hoop, or large earrings, consider the environment in which you will be wearing them. You may not have to spend as much energy hiding your piercing or arguing with your boss if you wear minimal jewelry or a more conservative style of piercing.
At the same time, you have the right to beautify your own ears. However, be sure to understand the situation that can't really accept the more daring ear styles
Tips
- Don't play with your earrings while talking to your parents or boss at work, as this will draw attention to the ear piercing.
- Try not to tilt your head if you wear long earrings.
