Almost all cultures have a baked apple-based dessert. Apple crisp, betty, and slump or grunt are types of food that use apples as the basic ingredient. Although there are many different variations, at its core, apple crumble is apple slices covered with a crunchy butter topping. Cooked apple crumble is delicious, appetizing, and smells delicious. Start by making a simple apple crumble, then prepare a few other variations. You'll soon find out why this apple dessert is so popular around the world.
This recipe is to make one apple crumble pan about 20 cm in diameter.
Ingredients
- 5-6 good quality ripe apples
- 2/3 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons of sugar
- 1/2 cup solid brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon table salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 6 teaspoons unsalted butter
Step
Method 1 of 2: Apple Crumble Standard
Step 1. Preheat the oven and prepare your baking sheet
Turn on the oven until it reaches 177ºC. Spread butter on a 20-22 cm tin.
Step 2. Prepare the apples that you will use
Peel and remove the apple stem. Then, cut into 0.6 cm long slices or dice. Put the apples into the frying pan you have prepared.
You may need more apples, depending on the size of the apples you are using. Make sure these apples fill about three-quarters of your pan
Step 3. Make the topping for your apple crumble
Grind flour, sugar, salt and cinnamon in a medium bowl.
You can also sift these ingredients in a bowl, but be aware that grinding will be faster
Step 4. Add butter to these dry apple crumble ingredients
Use a bread cutter, fork, or your hands to spread the butter over the dry-ingredient mixture. You have to mix the butter with the flour until you get a gritty texture.
If you're using your hands, make sure you don't work too hard when softening the butter or it will become too soft and difficult to work with. Keep your hands cool and work fast
Step 5. Cover the apples with the topping
Spread the toppings over the apples on your baking sheet. Press gently so that the topping crumbles slightly on top of your apples.
Step 6. Cook apple crumble
Cook for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until the tops are golden, the sap is bubbling, and the apples themselves are cooked through.
You may be able to use a coating to place under the apple crumble in the oven. That way, this coating will keep the drops from the apple crumble from being damaged
Step 7. Remove apple crumble and serve
Let it cool for a few minutes before you serve it. Serve with cream, sauce or ice cream.
Cover and place leftovers in the refrigerator. You can eat it for a few days, but the crunch will probably wear off
Method 2 of 2: Trying the Apple Crumble Variation
Step 1. Replace your fruit
You can make apple crumble all year round using the popular produce. Try using blackberries and strawberries in the summer or peaches and rhubarb in the spring. If you are using a mushy fruit, you may have to adjust the amount of sugar you use. For example, you will need more sugar if you use rhubarb.
You can also use frozen fruit. Don't thaw the apples before you coat them with the toppings, just go ahead and cook your batter
Step 2. Use oats on your toppings
To add a firmer chewy texture to your toppings, you can use oats. Replace half of the flour mixture with oats. This will give your crumble a slightly granola flavor.
Make sure you use flour on the topping, even when you use oats. The flour will attach the various ingredients to the topping. The flour will also absorb the fruit sap
Step 3. Add nuts
Nuts can strengthen the taste, add nutrition and crunch to the apple crumble. Use your favorite nuts, or try pecans, walnuts or hazelnuts. These three types of nuts are delicious when roasted and chopped before adding to your toppings.
Make sure your nuts are evenly mixed in the apple crumble topping. If you just spread the nuts on the topping, the nuts will lose their flavor
Step 4. Serve with whipped cream, ice cream, or crme anglaise
While you can eat the apple crumble as is, try adding a little whipped cream or a dollop of ice cream. You can also pour crème anglaise (a type of thick, rich custard) over your warm apple crumble.
You can use other ice cream besides vanilla ice cream. Options that are usually suitable for use are caramel ice cream or dulche de leche
