Pergo is a laminate flooring brand that is health friendly, easy to install and durable. The Pergo installation procedure is super easy to do as a weekend project for those who like to do things on their own. Although it is not recommended to use it in mobile homes, boats, and planes, you can install Pergo flooring in any room in your home, apart from being installed on a wooden floor or on a concrete floor.

Method 1 of 2: Installing the Pergo on a Wooden Base
Step 1. Prepare the floor
Wipe all dirt off the floor and secure any loose floorboards before installing anything on the ground floor. Check and make sure the ground floor is level using a spirit level. Leveling floors is usually only done on concrete floors, but you can find several products in the store that you can use with a large cloth, if only a few areas of the floor are misaligned. You can also directly install Pergo on the floor even if the floor is uneven, but this installation risks causing the floor to crack and separate later.
- If you are remodeling and do not install a new Pergo, remove all carpet, upholstery and other debris from the floor. Remove baseboards, vent covers, and other fixtures that may hinder the floor installation process. You have to clear everything down to the ground floor.
- If you want to cut the bottom of the baseboard, use a hand saw and a plastic spacer. Cut off the area you want to trim or slice with a chisel or utility knife. This part should come off easily.
Step 2. Install the vapor barrier
When you install Pergo on concrete or wood floors, it is usually a good idea to install a moisture barrier if you are concerned about humidity. Applying a moisture barrier can help prevent moisture from rising to the top of the board, causing the board to bend. You can find this coating at home supply stores for flooring installations.
Lay out the layers of the lining in long wedges so that they touch each other but don't overlap. Overlapping sections cause the floor to become uneven, so try to tidy up those sections as best you can
Step 3. Decide on one of the corners to start installing Pergo
Most projects usually start from the back left corner of the room and the installation moves toward the door. If you start the installation from the center, you will most likely have to cut the floor when you get to the edges for the installation to fit.
- To install the floor piece, remove the tongue piece from the first piece. This side will face the wall. Place the tongue side of the second cut into the groove of the first cut, starting at the corner. When the tongue is in the groove, press until the joint locks into place. Work in line. When you have finished the first line, move to the next line.
- Make sure you always leave a 1/4 inch (0.635 cm) gap around the sides of the room to allow room to expand when the temperature changes. Installation is also often done by adjusting the length of the floor piece according to the direction of light entering the room.
Step 4. Continue to install the line
At a 30-degree angle on the long sides of the two pieces, place the new pieces into the grooves. The pieces should come together easily, you can use a crowbar or hammer to gently tap the pieces into position.
Step 5. Begin the next row
Alternate the length of the second piece and subsequent even rows so that none of the pieces end up in the same place. The best way to do this is to cut the floor strips 2 feet (60.96 cm) long and start the second row with them. Then use the full pieces on the third row as well as the odd row and work your way through the room. Cut the floor at a different location from the floor installation location so that the resulting dust does not contaminate and enter the joints.
Always leave the cut section and stick it on two or three sides. Measure from the end of the piece, subtract 1/4 inch, then measure the dimensions of the piece you want to finish. Cut the part using a miter sliding saw. If the result is not very straight, do not be afraid because later it will be covered by the baseboard
Step 6. Continue lining up until you have completed the entire room
Join the long side joint of the new piece with the groove of the last line piece. Press the piece until it locks into place. Lock the piece into place using a tapping block at the end of the piece and gently tap the piece. Continue to use tapping blocks along the row while attaching the pieces.
Step 7. Install the baseboard
When you have completed all the rows, then you have completed the installation of the Pergo floor. Install the baseboard according to the design on the roof and return the existing equipment to its previous place. If you are doing a new install, you may need to make a small cut at the bottom.
Method 2 of 2: Installing a Pergo on a Concrete Base
Step 1. Check to make sure the concrete is level
If you are installing the Pergo on a concrete base, remove any carpet, trim, and other items covering the ground floor to expose the concrete underneath. Before installing Pergo, you should smooth the surface of the concrete and make sure the surface to be installed is as flat as possible. Use a spirit level to make sure the surface is clean, follow these steps if you need to smooth with fresh concrete.
Step 2. Make a concrete leveling mix
Uneven floors can be smoothed using a concrete leveler. This material is usually sold in 40-50lb (18-22 kg) sizes, and for use it can be mixed with water. Provide a bucket, make a little mix of concrete leveler with water according to the instructions. Don't make more of the mixture than you will use in the next hour, or the mixture will dry and harden making it unusable.
Start at the lowest point of the room and pour in a little more mixture, so you can add water to wet the concrete mix when needed. Use a cloth to spread the concrete mix as thinly as possible while smoothing the edges
Step 3. Begin the installation of the vapor barrier when the concrete has dried
Wait about 48 hours before installing the vapor barrier on the freshly leveled concrete, then install the vapor barrier as previously described. Vapor barrier or polyurethane coatings are usually obtained from Pergo sellers as part of the sales package. Cover the entire floor with this layer, and cut it to size the space to cover the floor completely. Expand the sides so that any moisture that will appear is stuck behind the baseboard. Use adhesive to secure the moisture barrier pieces together before proceeding with installation.
Step 4. Install Pergo according to previous instructions
Once you've leveled the concrete base and added the moisture barrier, installing the Pergo on a concrete base should be the same as installing it on a wooden base. Choose one of the corners, start joining the pieces together and leaving enough space between the rows, adjust the size of the pieces so that the ends fit.
