Despite the name stainless steel, stainless steel can still stain. Fortunately, there are some quick and easy ways to clean your stainless steel kit. Generally, the best way to clean this metal is to use liquid soap and baking soda. For a stronger stain, simply wipe the stainless steel with vinegar. Your stainless steel will be stain-free in no time!
Step
Method 1 of 4: Tackling Stains
Step 1. Mix dish soap with baking soda for light stains
Dab a small amount of the paste on a nylon brush or an old toothbrush. Scrub the stain in the direction of the stainless steel groove.
Step 2. Use vinegar for a stronger stain
If the baking soda paste isn't working enough, dip a soft brush in a little bit of undiluted vinegar. Rub lightly in the direction of the steel groove. Wipe the vinegar with a dry cloth.
Otherwise, put the vinegar in a spray bottle and spritz it on the stain, then use a brush and kitchen paper to clean the stain
Step 3. Use a bag of flour and cleaning powder to remove sink stains
Moisten the corners of an empty flour bag. Sprinkle some cleaning powder (sort of like Cif) on top. Rub it on the stain in a circular motion. Wet the other corner of the bag, then wipe the stain in the opposite direction.
Finally, wipe the entire moistened area with wax paper
Step 4. Polish the sink or stainless steel appliance after cleaning
Use a stainless steel polish, lemon oil, or a silicone-based spray to maintain the finish. Although instructions for use vary for each product, you can usually dab a small amount of the polishing agent on a clean cloth and then wipe it back and forth along the direction of the stainless steel groove.
Instead of using commercial products, you can also use mineral oil such as olive oil. Just dab a little oil on a cloth or kitchen paper, then wipe along the direction of the metal groove
Method 2 of 4: Getting Rid of Rust
Step 1. Make a paste of baking soda and water
If the stainless steel has rust spots, don't worry! These stains are easy to remove. Just mix 1 tbsp. (14 grams) baking soda with 470 ml of water.
Step 2. Remove all the rust using toothpaste dipped in paste
Choose a used toothbrush but clean and soft-bristled. This toothbrush will never again be used to brush your teeth. Dip the bristles of the brush in the baking soda paste, then use it to scrub the rusty areas.
Step 3. Rinse all the paste
Rinse off all the baking soda with warm water. Then, wipe the stainless steel with a kitchen towel. The rust will eventually go away!
Method 3 of 4: Applying Standard Rules
Step 1. Check the user manual for maintenance tips
Instructions for use can list the best way to get rid of stainless steel. Thus, you can clean the steel effectively and efficiently.
Step 2. Wipe in the direction of the stainless steel groove
You can tell the direction of this flow by looking at it closely. You'll see the metal is actually arranged into thin strips pointing in one direction. Unless otherwise noted, clean in the direction of the stainless steel groove.
Step 3. Wipe the stainless steel every time you wash the dishes
Use a cloth dampened in soapy water to wipe the stainless steel surface. Rinse the washcloth with water, then wipe it over the stainless steel. Wipe again with a dry cloth to prevent the appearance of water spots.
Step 4. Avoid using cleaning products that can damage the stainless steel
Cleaning products containing chlorides (including iodine, bromine, chlorine, and fluorine) can cause holes and damage stainless steel. Alcohol, ammonia, or mineral spirits can also damage the protective coating on the stainless steel surface. Finally, abrasive steel wool or steel brushes can damage the stainless steel surface and make it easier to rust.
Method 4 of 4: Cleaning Stainless Steel
Step 1. Sprinkle flour on stainless steel pans, pans and sinks
Clean as much of the surface as possible using a sponge dipped in warm soapy water. When the stainless steel is dry, sprinkle some flour on top. Use a cloth or kitchen paper to rub the flour against the metal. This step is great for getting rid of residual dirt and oil.
Step 2. Use a glass cleaner to get rid of fingerprints
Spray the glass cleaner liberally on the stainless steel surface, then use a clean cloth to wipe it down. This technique is great for getting rid of fingerprints.
You can also make your own glass cleaner. Take a 2 liter container and add 240 ml of high-proof alcohol and 60 ml of white vinegar. After that, fill the remaining container with water until it's full, then transfer it to a spray bottle
Step 3. Polish with furniture polish
Furniture polish can be used instead of glass cleaner. Just spray a little on a clean cloth and use it to wipe the stainless steel surface.
Step 4. Use sparkling water on the device
If you are cleaning a household appliance, fill a spray bottle with sparkling water and spray it on the stainless steel surface. Wipe along the stainless steel groove until it's shiny.
If you're cleaning a stainless steel sink, put a stopper in the bottom of the sink and fill it with sparkling water until it covers the bottom of the sink. Use a clean cloth to scrub the sides and bottom of the sink in circular motions, and re-dip the cloth in the vinegar "pool" as necessary
Tips
- Work as carefully as possible to prevent scratches on the stainless steel. Do not use abrasive powders, steel wool, or scouring pads.
- Test the cleaning product on a small area to make sure it doesn't damage the stainless steel surface.
