Stimulating hair follicles is one way to encourage hair growth. In addition to making dietary changes and supplements, stimulating hair follicles can help hair grow a little faster than usual. All of these methods have been proven and most are natural ways to stimulate hair follicles that can be done at home.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Massaging the Scalp
Step 1. Decide if you want to use the oil to massage your scalp
Many professionals recommend using oil when massaging the scalp. This not only stimulates the hair follicles, but also nourishes the scalp and hair roots. Recommended oils include:
- Coconut oil
- Jojoba oil
- Olive oil
- Almond oil
- Egg Oil (Eyova)
- Avocado oil
- Castor oil
Step 2. Decide when you want to do a scalp massage
You have several options, mainly depending on whether you want to use the oil to massage your scalp.
- In the shower when shampooing (no need for oil)
- Before bath
- Before sleeping
Step 3. Warm a little oil of your choice in a bowl
If you want to massage your scalp with oil, warm it up. You can warm it for 20-30 seconds in the microwave or melt it in a frying pan over low heat.
It is recommended to use no more than a tablespoon of oil
Step 4. Place fingertips on scalp and start massaging in small circular motions
The pads on the fingertips will massage and stimulate blood flow to the scalp.
If using oil, dip your fingertips in the warm oil before touching your scalp. Then, massage the oil into your scalp in small circular motions. Use a little oil so that the hair is not too oily
Step 5. Massage the entire scalp for five minutes
You can divide your hair into sections and massage each section for about a minute or gently massage your entire head.
Some methods suggest turning the head while massaging to further stimulate blood flow to the scalp. This method has not been proven so do it with caution, especially if you have a health condition such as pregnancy or frequent dizziness
Step 6. Wrap your head in an old T-shirt, light towel, or shower cap
Wrapping the hair gives time for the oil to absorb into the follicles and hair shaft, thereby further nourishing the hair. Allow hair to remain wrapped and absorb oil for up to two hours.
- Thick bath towels tend to cause hair damage. A good alternative to wrapping your hair is using an old cotton T-shirt or light microfiber towel.
- This step can be skipped if you don't use oil when massaging your scalp.
Step 7. Wash hair thoroughly, if you are using oil
Whatever your hair type, too much oil will make your hair greasy. This is especially true if you have thin hair as the oil is usually too heavy.
Shampoo and condition your hair as usual. You need to wash your hair twice to remove the oil from your hair
Step 8. Use a scalp massager if you don't like using oil
This tool can be purchased at most major pharmacies or beauty stores. With this tool, you can massage your scalp without having to use oil. Some scalp massagers may require batteries.
Step 9. Repeat daily
Scalp massage can be done every day, although it is not recommended to use oil every day, because washing your hair every day can dry out the scalp. You can massage your scalp in dry conditions and while shampooing or moisturizing your hair in the shower.
Method 2 of 4: Adding Essential Oils for Scalp Massage
Step 1. Purchase rosemary and peppermint essential oils
This oil can be found in organic food stores, health food stores, and online.
Rosemary and peppermint essential oils have been shown to stimulate hair growth when used during a scalp massage
Step 2. Add 3-4 drops of essential oil to the oil
When doing a scalp massage with oil, add a few drops of rosemary and peppermint essential oil to the oil.
- Alternatively, you can look for shampoo and/or conditioner products that have essential oils in them.
- Do not use essential oils without a carrier oil as they can irritate the scalp.
Step 3. Massage this mixture on the scalp
] Massage in small circular motions with fingertips, not nails. Gently massage the entire scalp for about five minutes.
You can divide your hair into smaller sections, if you wish, to ensure that the entire head is massaged
Step 4. Leave the oil to moisturize the hair
After massaging your scalp, you can let the oil sit for two hours. You can wrap your head in an old cotton T-shirt, light towel, or a shower cap.
Step 5. Wash hair thoroughly
To remove all the oil from your hair, you need to wash your hair twice. Then, give conditioner as usual.
Method 3 of 4: Using a Pig Hair Comb to Stimulate Hair Follicles
Step 1. Buy a sea urchin comb with natural bristles
To stimulate hair follicles and encourage the scalp to produce its own natural oils to the fullest, a natural-bristle sea urchin comb is often recommended.
Step 2. Bend over to turn your head
You will need to stand with your head turned for a while so that you can brush the lower sections of hair behind your neck.
Step 3. Comb the hair in long, gentle motions starting at the base of the neck
Comb your hair forward towards the top of your head and down to the ends of your hair, towards the floor.
- Move along the back of the neck and to the sides of the head, next to the ears. You can also move sections of hair to comb through hard-to-reach layers.
- Comb hair for 3-5 minutes.
Step 4. Slowly straighten your body to stand up straight again
Avoid dizziness by standing back up slowly so your body has time to adjust.
Step 5. Repeat combing the hair as before, starting from the roots of the hair and combing towards the ends of the hair
Again, comb for 3-5 minutes, moving around the top of the head.
- Comb in slow, gentle motions to avoid breaking hair and stimulating the scalp.
- Divide the hair into sections if necessary.
Step 6. Repeat up to three times per day
Combing hair with a natural sea urchin comb can be done up to three times per day, but it is recommended to do it at least once a day.
Method 4 of 4: Applying Onion Juice on the Scalp
Step 1. Buy a few cloves of onions
While it's best to make the juice in small amounts so it doesn't go stale too quickly, it's helpful to have extra onions ready when needed to make your next juice.
Step 2. Peel the skin of the onion
Peel it off with your fingers or you can cut it into pieces which will often cause the skin to come off easily.
Step 3. Decide how to get the onion juice
You have three options for doing this, based on the type of kitchen utensils and tools available:
- Juicer: Cut the onion into small pieces and add to the juicer.
- Blender or food processor: Cut an onion into quarters and puree in a blender or food processor. Strain the mixture through a metal sieve or gauze over a bowl until the water remains.
- Grate: Cut the onion in half and grate each piece. Strain the grated onion through gauze over a bowl to extract the water.
Step 4. Try the onion juice on a small, hidden area of the skin for an allergic reaction
Fresh, pure onion juice is very strong and can cause a reaction if you are allergic.
Do not continue with the next steps if you are allergic
Step 5. Apply onion juice on the scalp and massage
Gently pour the onion juice on the scalp and use your fingertips to massage it into the scalp. Adding massage can provide extra strength to stimulate hair follicles.
Step 6. Let the onion juice sit for at least 30 minutes to an hour
To achieve the best results, onion juice needs to be left on the scalp for at least half an hour.
Step 7. Wash hair as usual
When you're done, shampoo and condition your hair as usual to get rid of the onion smell.
Step 8. Repeat this method three times per week
It is recommended to repeat this method three times per week for best results within a few months.
Tips
- Always use fingertips when massaging the scalp so that the scalp is not injured or scratched by the nails.
- Clean the sea urchin comb by moving a wide-toothed comb over the sea urchin comb. Lay the wide-toothed comb horizontally, so that it is perpendicular to the sea urchin comb, and push to remove any hair stuck to the boar comb. Then rinse the sea urchin comb with water and place it flat on a towel, bristles facing down, to dry.
