Do you smoke or work in a smoky kitchen? Are you an athlete who sweats a lot? You know that there is no chance to wash your hair for the next few days? If so, there are many things you can do to make your hair smell good for longer.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Get Rid of Bad Smell from Hair
Step 1. Wash your hair regularly
This solution may be obvious, but it is essential, especially if your hair type is oily. Oily hair tends to absorb odors around it. Try to wash your hair every other day or at least twice a week.
Step 2. Quit smoking
Cigarette smoke sticks to the hair and lasts for a long time. In addition, the smell of cigarette smoke is very difficult to disguise. If you can't quit smoking completely, try at least to smoke outside, not in enclosed spaces. If you live or work with people who smoke, try to stay away as much as possible when they are smoking or persuade them to smoke outside.
Step 3. Wear a hair cover when you are in a smelly environment
If you work in the kitchen or are going to a party where people smoke indoors, try to cover your hair. When working in the kitchen, wear a hair net, handkerchief, or hat if allowed. If you're at a party, opt for a pretty hat or bandana.
If you are not allowed to wear a head covering, you can curl your hair so that only a small part of your hair is exposed to the smell
Step 4. Wash the headgear and pillowcase
Anything that comes into contact with hair, such as hats, handkerchiefs, helmets, hair ties, bandanas and pillowcases, can absorb odors from dirty hair and if you put them on after washing your hair, the smell will transfer to your clean hair. Try to keep things as clean as possible.
Step 5. Clean the brush and hair comb
Especially if you use a product that leaves a residue on the comb because that means you transfer the same smell from the comb to the hair as you brush. Try to clean your brushes and combs once a week.
- If there's a lot of hair stuck in the comb and you can't pull it out by hand, slide a pen or pencil under your hair and pull it up.
- You can also use scissors to get rid of stubborn hair stuck in the comb, but be careful not to damage the bristles of the brush. Insert the scissors parallel to the bristles of the brush, then clip them so that the stuck hair is easy to remove.
- To thoroughly clean the brush, fill a sink with warm water and add about a tablespoon of shampoo. Wash the brush that has been cleaned of hair in the sink, rinse well, then let it dry on its own.
Step 6. Do not use the same hair brush for pets
Zoophilic fungi grow on animals and can be transmitted to humans. This fungus thrives in warm and humid environments. It's hard to get rid of them even after you've washed your hair.
- Sometimes, very close contact with pets can transmit zoophilic fungi to humans, even if you don't use the same brush for pets.
- If you're concerned about getting a yeast infection of animal origin, talk to your doctor. You may need to take antifungal medication or use an antifungal shampoo.
Step 7. Use dry shampoo
Dry shampoo is designed to absorb oil and will help disguise odors. Spray your hair plenty of shampoo before you step foot into a smelly environment. Make sure you spray all sections of hair. Once you're in a stinky spot, comb your hair thoroughly to help remove the odor from your hair.
Method 2 of 3: Using Products to Make Hair Smell Good
Step 1. Spray perfume on the hair brush
There are many perfumes that are specially designed for this purpose and could be the best choice for you. You can also use regular perfume every now and then, but this perfume is not designed for hair so it can make hair greasy or dry. Be careful not to use it too often.
- Don't spray perfume directly on your hair. Doing so can damage your hairdo, make your hair limp, or cause shiny patches of hair.
- Perfume can dry out hair if sprayed directly on hair.
Step 2. Use essential oils
Many essential oils are antimicrobial and will help prevent infection of the scalp (which can cause hair to smell bad). Tea tree, lavender, vanilla, and peppermint oils can be good choices. Add 2-3 drops of the essential oil of your choice to a cup of water, and massage the scalp using the mixture. Leave it on for about 20 minutes, then wash your hair with shampoo.
Alternatively, you can add essential oils to your shampoo. For every 30 ml of shampoo, just add 2 drops of essential oil
Step 3. Try using scented hairspray, serum and dry shampoo
If you've been using hair products for a long time, there's nothing wrong with adding a nice smell to your daily routine. The smell that a product like this leaves might not last all day. So, consider carrying a small bottle in your bag when you travel.
Some brands even produce hair freshening sprays. Salt water spray is also effective for refreshing hair and will not make hair limp
Step 4. Use a deep conditioner every two weeks
Deep conditioners are designed to soften hair and prevent possible breakage. In addition, the conditioner leaves a nice smell on the hair. Most brands recommend using conditioner every two weeks, but it's a good idea to read the directions on the label.
- In order to work more effectively, warm the conditioner before use. Soak a container of conditioner in a sink of hot water for about 1 minute before using it on your hair.
- Alternate between deep conditioners designed to moisturize hair (look for products that contain ingredients such as emollient butter and oils, glycerin, and aloe) and other products designed to strengthen hair (look for ingredients such as hydrolysed protein, amino acids, keratin and henna).
Step 5. Make your own shampoo
According to many beauticians, shampoos sold in the market can remove natural oils from hair. Plus, making your own shampoo allows you to give yourself a perfume of your choice! There are dozens of recipes available, and here is one that can be made with easy-to-find ingredients. Mix the following ingredients and use like a regular shampoo:
- cup distilled water
- cup Castilian liquid soap (soap made from plant oils)
- 2 teaspoons avocado oil
- 1/8 teaspoon peppermint essential oil
- 1/8 teaspoon tea tree essential oil
- 10-15 drops of essential oil of your choice
Method 3 of 3: Making a Scented Rinse Product
Step 1. Make a rinse with baking soda
Baking soda can limit the accumulation of oil in your hair and neutralize odors. Take a bowl or glass and mix cup of baking soda and cup of water. The two ingredients will form a paste. If your hair is shoulder length, double the material. Wet hair, and apply a mixture of baking soda and water. Leave it for about 5 minutes, then wash your hair with shampoo. Repeat this treatment once a week.
Step 2. Use rose water
Apply rose water directly to the hair. Do massage on the scalp with rose water. Leave it on for 20 minutes, then wash your hair as usual. Rose water will leave a rose scent on your hair.
Step 3. Make a rinse with lemon
Lemon is very effective for making hair smell fresh, as well as help overcome dandruff. Wash your hair with shampoo first. Squeeze two fresh lemons into a cup of water, then massage your hair with a mixture of water and lemon. Leave it for 10 minutes. After this treatment, don't forget to use conditioner so that the lemon water doesn't dry out your hair.
- Note that lemon juice also tends to lighten hair color and highlight highlights, especially if you leave your hair out in the sun while the lemon juice is still on your hair.
- You can also add essential oils to the lemon and water mixture, but this step is optional because lemons already have a strong odor.
