One of the most popular fresh fruits during the dry season is watermelon. This refreshing and sweet fruit is also very healthy. To enjoy the freshness of watermelon to the fullest, you should buy it whole and cut it yourself. You can cut the watermelon into circles, triangles, small cubes, cubes, or even scoop out the flesh directly with a round spoon.
Step
Method 1 of 5: Slicing Watermelon
Step 1. Wash the watermelon
Use a fruit cleanser if you have one, or simply rinse the watermelon under running water to remove dirt, germs, and pesticide residue. You should wash the watermelon because the kitchen knife used to cut the watermelon will also touch the outer surface.
Step 2. Slice the top and bottom of the watermelon
It's a good idea to use a serrated knife to cut things that are soft on the inside but tough on the outside like watermelon, tomatoes, and bread. The length of the knife must also exceed the fruit to be cut.
Step 3. Slice the watermelon down the middle into two halves
Stand the watermelon at one end before cutting it in half.
Note that if you cut along the dark grooves on the outside of the watermelon, the seeds will be on the outer surface of the cut, making them easier to remove later
Step 4. Cut the watermelon into two more pieces
You can cut each one into two, three, or four pieces, as you like.
Step 5. Slice the watermelon flesh from the skin
Hold the watermelon slice in one hand, while with the other, slice the flesh off the skin.
Step 6. Slice the watermelon flesh into several pieces
Try to slice the watermelon flesh into equal pieces, about 5-7 cm thick. Continue slicing chunks of watermelon flesh from the skin.
Method 2 of 5: Cutting the Circle Shape
Step 1. Slice the watermelon crosswise
You can cut the watermelon into circles by slicing it crosswise about 3 cm thick.
Step 2. Slice the watermelon flesh from the skin
Move the knife along the edge of the watermelon so that the skin comes off. You can also remove the watermelon seeds at this step.
Step 3. Slice into small pieces
You can thinly slice this circle piece lengthwise or into triangles, or even use a cookie cutter to form unique pieces like stars.
Method 3 of 5: Cutting Triangles
Step 1. Slice the watermelon into two halves
Find the midpoint, and slice the watermelon in half following this point.
Step 2. Slice the watermelon into two more pieces
Place the watermelon on a cutting board so that the skin is on top and the flesh is facing down. Next, slice each piece into two more pieces.
Step 3. Slice the watermelon into a triangular shape
Take one of the watermelon slices and slice it into a triangular shape about 1.5 cm thick. Continue slicing the watermelon pieces until they are finished.
Method 4 of 5: Chopping Small
Step 1. Slice the watermelon into quarters
Slice the watermelon into two halves. Next, place each piece of watermelon in its flesh-down position, and slice it in half again.
Step 2. Slice the watermelon into a triangular shape
Make 2-5 cm wide slices on the watermelon flesh until it just touches the skin. However, do not slice the watermelon until the skin is also split.
Step 3. Slice the watermelon into equal lengths
Starting on one side, slice the watermelon about 2.5 cm below the top. Slice the watermelon the same length until the tip of the knife touches the skin.
Step 4. Continue slicing the watermelon
Make equal lengths of slices 2-5 cm below the first slice, but do not slice until the watermelon rind is also split. Flip the watermelon and repeat this step on the other side.
Step 5. Slice the watermelon flesh from the skin
Use a knife to slice the bottom of the watermelon horizontally. You can then pour the watermelon chunks into a bowl or serving plate.
Method 5 of 5: Using a Round Spoon
Step 1. Slice the watermelon into quarters
Find the midpoint of the watermelon, and make a wedge at this point so that the watermelon splits into two halves. Next, place each watermelon slice on the cutting board with the skin side up. Slice each watermelon slice into two more pieces. You can slice them the same length or crosswise.
Step 2. Pry the watermelon flesh
Use a round spoon or ice cream scoop to scoop out the flesh of the watermelon. Next, place them in a Tupperware bowl or container.
This method works best on seedless watermelons so your watermelon balls don't contain seeds. Or, throw away the watermelon seeds once the flesh has been removed
Step 3. Serve cold
Chilled watermelon balls are a fresh snack that the whole family will love.
