In the holiday season (especially the Christmas holidays), everyone loves to listen to Christmas carols and play them on the piano. Even if you're not a piano player, you can still keep your friends and family entertained with simple tunes, such as Jingle Bells. Once you learn it, you can memorize and play it easily, wherever you can play the piano/keyboard.
Step
Step 1. Extend your right hand forward
For the song Jingle Bells, you will only use your right hand. If you are a complete beginner, the first thing you need to do is recognize the “finger number”.

Step 1
-
The index finger is marked with a number
Step 2
-
The middle finger is marked with a number
Step 3

The ring finger is marked with a number
Step 4

The little finger is marked with a number
Step 5
- You can write the numbers down on your hand if you have trouble remembering them. However, the numbering is actually quite easy to remember. If you already know the note names, you don't need to know the finger numbers.
Step 2. Find the position of your hand on the piano
For the song Jingle Bells, position your hands entirely in the middle C position (you only need to use your right hand). To find the middle C position (middle C), look at your piano or keyboard (or a picture if you don't have either instrument), and notice that the black keys are divided into two-key and three-key groups.
Step 3. Find the group of two black keys closest to the center of the piano/keyboard
Step 4. Place the thumb of your right hand on the white key which is just to the left of the two black keys
The white key is called the middle C key.
Step 5. Place the other fingers on all the white keys that are to the right of the middle C key
You must place all five fingers on the five white keys, starting from the middle C key to the four keys on the right. This is known as the middle C position.
Step 6. Start playing the piano
-
Here's how to play the piano if you play it with a fingertip guide: 3 3 3 - 3 3 3 - 3 5 1 2 3 - - - 4 4 4 3 3 3 2 2 3 2 - 5 - 3 3 3 -3 3 3 - 3 5 1 2 3 - - - 4 4 4 3 3 3 5 5 4 2 1 - - -All you have to do is press the key with the finger that corresponds to the number. When you reach the dash (-), hold down the key longer. Each dash signifies one additional tap. For example, if you find the pattern 3 3 3 -, on the last 3 key, you will need to press the key longer to play an additional beat.
-
If you know the note names in the middle C position (C, D, E, F, and G), you can play a Jingle Bells song by looking at the following note guide: EEE - EEE - EGCDE - - - FFFEEEEDDED - G - EEE - EEE - EGCDE - - - FFFEEEGGFDC - - -
Step 7. Have fun entertaining your friends and family this holiday season
Tips
- If you feel that the previously given chords are too difficult to play, you can just play fingers 1 and 5 (C and G).
- Keep practicing.
- If you find that just playing right-handed is easy enough, you can add left-handed chords to make the song sound better. Place the left hand in the same position as the right hand position, but place it in the C position below the middle C position. This position is called the C bass position. To find out if your left hand is in the right position, find out if there are three blank white keys between the thumb of your left hand and the thumb of your right hand. To play a chord, press the keys 1, 3, and 5 (C, E, and G) at the same time. Press for four beats and play again. Do this while your right hand plays the melody.
