Have you always wanted to be able to play "Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star" on the piano? The song is so easy to learn, you don't even need the sheet music. Once you've found the basic notes on your piano, you can learn the simple patterns you need to play to listen to the song "Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star." With just a little practice, you'll soon be able to play everyone's favorite nursery rhyme without any hassle.
Step
Step 1. Look for Middle C notes on your keyboard
The "C" note is always a white key just to the left of the 2 black keys, and the Middle C is almost in the middle of your keyboard. Place your thumb on the note C.
Use the image above as a guide for finding notes
Step 2. Find the note G
Count four white keys from the right of middle C. That's the "G" note. Place your ring finger on the note of G.
Step 3. Look for note A
Find the white key from the right of the G. This is called the "A" note. Place your little finger on the A note.
Step 4. Play notes in the following pattern:
"CC GG AA G". Play to the beat of the song "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". If you find it helpful, sing as you hit the notes so you can better imagine the rhythm.
Step 5. Notice the three notes between Middle C and A that you don't recognize
These are the "D," "E" and "F" notes.
Place your ring finger on the F note, your middle finger on the E note, your index finger on the D note, and your thumb on the C note
Step 6. Play the following pattern:
"FF EE DD C". These notes match the pitch of the lyrics "How I wonder what you are".
Step 7. Play the next part
Place your little finger on the G note, your ring finger on the F note, your middle finger on the E note, and your index finger on the D note.
Step 8. Play the pitch for the "Up above the world so high" lyric part
Here are the notes: "GG FF EE D".
Step 9. Repeat the same pitch in the "Like a diamond in the sky" lyric:
GG FF EE D.
Step 10. Go back to the pattern (and finger placement) you played at the beginning of the song
"Twinkle twinkle little star "-"CC GG AA G".
Step 11. End the song
"How I wonder what you are" FF EE DD C.
Step 12. Combine all the parts of the song
If you have trouble memorizing at first, write the notes on a piece of paper and place them above or below your keyboard keys. Look at the paper as it plays until you can memorize the song.
Tips
- Experiment with music by changing notes. For example, "DD AA BB A GG F#F# EE D". Have fun starting songs with notes other than "C" and experimenting to get deeper into the melody.
- The B (refrain) part of the song is "Up above the world so high, like a diamond in the sky" or "GG FF EE D GG FF EE D".
- If you're having trouble memorizing note names on your keyboard, place a piece of adhesive tape over each key. Use a pen or pencil to label each key, then remove the adhesive tape once you've memorized the notes.
- You only need a few notes to play the song. If you have C marks on your piano, like mine (if not, place a piece of adhesive tape with the note's letters on it) and you've been playing it long enough, you'll be able to place your fingers on the keys naturally. This is called muscle memory, so take advantage of it.
- Repeat part A (top of the song) to end the song. "CC GG AA G FF EE DD C".
- Note that the song has an "A-B-A" pattern. Part A is the part with the lyrics "Twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are" or "CC GG AA G FF EE DD C".
