“Two beef hamburgers, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun!” Is this? BIG MAC! You know you want it, but you don't want to drive to McDonald's, so how do you get it? Making this recipe is easy and fun – and you can do it yourself!
Ingredients
- sandwich
- 1 pair regular size sesame seed buns
- 1 pair regular size plain bread
- 2 beef hamburgers (Each 2 ounces (56.7g), flattened to the size of a loaf of bread)
- 2 tablespoons Special Sauce (recipe is below)
- 2 teaspoons finely chopped onions
- 1 slice American cheese
- 3 slices of pickled dill
- 1/4 cup washed and chopped iceberg lettuce (dried)
- Special Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons french salad seasoning
- 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
- 1/2 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
Step
Step 1. To make the sauce:
Mix all the sauce ingredients together, and blend the mixture until smooth. Store in the refrigerator for about an hour before using to let the flavors mix.
Step 2. Prepare the bread
Take the hard part of the bread or in other words the hard top and bottom, and give it to the birds to eat, use as a coaster, or throw it away if you want as this part is not required in this recipe.
Step 3. Prepare the beef hamburger
Flatten two pieces of meat that are 3 inches (85mm) in diameter, and about inch (8mm) thick.
Step 4. Prepare the sprinkles
- Chop about a quarter of a white onion and set aside.
- Slice or cut iceberg lettuce into thin slices.
Step 5. Cook the hamburger
You can cook it the way you want and to the degree of doneness (raw to fully cooked) that you like.
Step 6. Fry 3 pieces of bread
While the hamburger is cooking, slowly add the bread. Fry both sides of the bottom regular bun and also fry the sesame buns (inner side).
Step 7. Give the sauce to the bread that has been fried
Take the bottom of the regular bread and the bottom of the sesame bun and place 1 tablespoon of the sauce on top of both.
Step 8. Add lettuce, cheese and pickles
Take a large amount of sliced lettuce and place it on top of each bread that has been smeared with the sauce.
On the bottom (sesame bun) roll, place a slice of cheese on top of the lettuce. On regular bread, lay the pickled slices on top of the lettuce
Step 9. Place the hamburger
Arrange each hamburger on top of the filling (cheese and pickles) on each layer. Lay the chopped onions on top into two layers.
Step 10. Arrange
Remove, carefully, the regular buns (with all the fillings) and arrange them on top of the bottom layer (sesame buns).
Place the top sesame buns on top of the hamburger
Step 11. Enjoy your homemade Big-Mac
Tips
- You can double the amount of hamburger meat on the sandwich to create a Big Mac.
- Try adding a little more special sauce.. it won't hurt!
- According to some websites (as stated in the food.com website source below), part of this seasoning is Thousand Island seasoning. Try one bite. You will see that Thousand Island is what part of this sauce.
- Try adding some tomatoes, swapping chopped onions for sliced onions, and using a sheet of Roman lettuce. It will still have the Big Mac "vibe" - it will add to the stronger taste.
