Wonder Woman is a very famous female superhero, and her costume reflects her strength and charm. Whether you want to make costumes for children or adults, try different ways to make them using affordable materials.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Making Costumes for Adults
Step 1. Get a tight red top
Originally, Wonder Woman's top was strapless so if you want a more accurate costume, opt for a bustier top or a red tube top. Choose a shiny material, if possible. For a simpler variation, go for a red swimsuit and a narrow red tank top. You can also cut off the top of the red dress and sew the open side.
Step 2. Create a gold emblem for the boss
You can use gold duct tape. There are several designs that can be applied to the emblem; You can try looking for pictures of them in magazines or the internet, and these emblems can be either an elaborate eagle pattern, or a simple W shape. You could try making a W-shaped eagle out of craft cork, spray some gold paint, and then glue it to your top.
- For a simpler emblem, simply line the top edge of the front of your bustier, swimsuit, or tank top with gold duct tape.
- For something bolder, create a two-layer W shape (one W inside the other) with wings or straight horizontal lines from each end of the W shape.
Step 3. Choose a short skirt or blue shorts
The lower half of Wonder Woman's costume is quite revealing and usually only covers the thighs from the middle up. High-waisted shorts should be ideal, but you can also wear blue sports shorts. However, if you want a simpler option, opt for a blue miniskirt, like the one Wonder Woman used in her old comics.
- In some modern versions of the comics, Wonder Woman wears blue or black tights; You can choose this option if you are not comfortable wearing short pants or skirts.
- In the 2017 film, Wonder Woman wore a skirt with strips of fabric hanging down, which also made it more revealing. Imitate this look by cutting strips of leather and painting them blue before sewing and gluing them to the bottom of the bustier.
Step 4. Decorate the bottom with stars
If you're opting for a classic comic strip look, add stars to your skirt or shorts by cutting them out of white fabric, white tape, or white construction paper. Use as much fabric glue as needed to attach the stars to shorts or skirts.
Step 5. Prepare a pair of knee-high boots
It may be difficult for you to find red boots so find some used shoes and paint them red. You can also use duct tape or red electrical tape to cover the entire boot. You can also wear red knee-high softball socks underneath your regular shoes.
Step 6. Decorate the boots with white duct tape
The "lip" of each boot should be white. You'll also need to draw a straight white line down the center of the boot, from the top to the toe.
Part 2 of 3: Making Costumes for Kids
Step 1. Prepare a red T-shirt or tank top
For a simpler version of the bustier for the kids, opt for a red tank top, or even a red long-sleeved tee if the costume is going to be worn on a chilly night.
Step 2. Make the Wonder Woman emblem with masking tape
Since tops for kids don't have deep necklines for badging, you can simply use yellow electrical tape or striped gold duct tape to create a W shape on the front of the shirt. You can also cut a W out of gold glitter cork, which can be purchased at a bookstore or craft store.
If you're making an impromptu costume and don't have masking tape, use a black marker to draw the design on the shirt. Just remember to place a piece of cardboard or something similar inside the shirt when you're drawing so the ink doesn't get to the back of the shirt
Step 3. Prepare the blue skirt
You can opt for blue shorts if your child prefers it, but the skirt will add length and femininity to the costume. The material can be anything from cotton, jersey, or denim, or something fun like a blue tutu.
Step 4. Choose skin tone tights to make your child feel warmer
If your child is going out for Halloween in this costume, and you don't want her to catch a cold, look for leather tights or panty hose to wear under the skirt. You can buy it at a clothing store or pharmacy.
Step 5. Decorate the skirt with white stars
Cut the stars out of fabric, felt, or white paper, then sew or glue them to the skirt with fabric glue. You can also look for stickers in the shape of a white star, and let your child decorate her own skirt. Depending on the fabric, the sticker may still need to be glued to keep it from coming off.
Step 6. Prepare knee-high red socks
Unless your child already has knee-high boots, it's easier and cheaper to use socks that go all the way to the child's knees. Wear socks over flats or other simple shoes to create boot-like footwear.
Step 7. Apply white duct tape to the sock
Use electrical tape or white duct tape in the middle of the sock from the knee to the tip of the sock. Also, add a white circle around the top of the sock. If you don't have white tape, cut out an old white sock and sew or tape the strip to the sock.
Step 8. Add a cape if the child wants it
While Wonder Woman costumes are usually depicted as having no cape, you can simply find a long red cloth and sew it to the top of the shirt, or attach it to both shoulders using safety pins.
Part 3 of 3: Adding Accessories
Step 1. Get a wide gold belt
If you can't get a gold belt, you can also spray the old belt with gold paint or cut the gold cloth to make it look like a belt. You can also trace the design onto gold vinyl and wrap it around the child's waist; attach the back with velcro.
You can leave the belt plain, or put Wonder Woman's star or W shape on the front. Cut the desired shape out of cardboard or thin cork that has been painted red, and attach it to the center of the belt using fabric glue or hot glue
Step 2. Make a gold bracelet using toilet paper cardboard
Unless you already have a thick gold bracelet, the easiest way to make a clone of Wonder Woman bracelet is to use a cardboard toilet paper. Cut each piece of cardboard lengthwise so the child can slide his hand in and out of the bracelet, then spray it with gold paint or stick gold-colored folding paper. Tape it with tape if the bracelet continues to sag from the wrist.
If you don't have a gold-colored material, use aluminum foil glued to a cardboard toilet paper for a metallic look
Step 3. Make a gold tiara
Wonder Woman has a bold gold tiara with a red star. This tiara is worn around the top of the forehead and, ideally, should have a diamond shape in the center of the front. You can make a tiara by wrapping a regular headband in metallic gold fabric, wrapping paper, or aluminum foil.
Finish the tiara with the red star. You can glue a red star to the front, or cut a small star shape out of red cloth or tape
Step 4. Bring the lasso
For the lasso, you can use a few meters of plain string. Usually, Wonder Woman's lasso is yellow so you can choose yellow or gold, according to your taste. However, as long as it is brightly colored, the lasso display will be quite accurate.
Tie a simple knot at the end of the rope to mimic the look of a lasso, and tie the other end of the rope to the belt
Step 5. Make a sword and shield
You can buy plastic swords and shields at any party supply or toy store. You can also make your own by tracing and cutting out the pattern on cardboard. Wonder Woman's shield is circular, and has a W emblem as on her shirt, which can be drawn or made with masking tape. For the sword, wrap it in foil to give it a metallic look.
Step 6. Unravel the hair down into long curls
Style your hair into limp curls using a flat iron and remove them after a few seconds. If your hair color isn't black, try dyeing it black. If your hair isn't long enough or you don't want to dye it, try buying a black curly wig.
