This wikiHow teaches you how to log out of your WhatsApp account on a computer, Android device, or iOS device. While there is no “Log Out” button for the WhatsApp mobile app, you can still log out of your account by deleting the app data (Android) or the app itself (iPhone and iPad).

Method 1 of 3: For Android Devices
Step 1. Open WhatsApp
This app is indicated by a green chat bubble icon that appears on the home screen or app drawer.
Step 2. Copy your data
Since WhatsApp doesn't come with a built-in ("Log Out") button, you'll need to log out by clearing the app's data from the device. To make sure you don't lose your chat history, first copy the app data to your Google account. To copy it:
- Tap the button in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Touch " Settings ” at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
- Touch " Chats ”.
- Touch " Chat Backup ”.
- Choose " Backup ”.
Step 3. Press the “Home” button
It's a circular button at the bottom center of the screen. After that, you will be taken to the home screen of the device.
Step 4. Open the Android Settings device settings menu
This menu is indicated by a gray gear icon on the home screen or application page.
Step 5. Swipe the screen and touch Apps
This option is in the “Devices” section.
Step 6. Swipe the screen and touch WhatsApp
The apps on this page are listed in alphabetical order, so you may need to swipe far enough to find the WhatsApp app.
Step 7. Touch Storage
If you don't see the “Storage” option, but find a button labeled “Clear Data”, move on to the next step.
Step 8. Touch the Clear Data button
If you see a confirmation message asking you to delete settings and application files, touch “OK”. If not, move on to the next step.
Step 9. Open WhatsApp
Once opened, the login page will be displayed. This indicates that you have successfully logged out of your account.
If you want to log back into your account, open WhatsApp and enter the account username and password. You will be asked to touch the button “ Restore ” to restore the previously created copy of the data.
Method 2 of 3: For iPhone and iPad
Step 1. Open WhatsApp
This app is marked by a green speech bubble icon that appears on the home screen.
Step 2. Copy the chat history first
Since WhatsApp does not have a built-in ("Log Out") button, you will need to uninstall the app to log out of your account. To make sure you don't lose your message history, first copy the history to iCloud first. To copy it:

- Touch " Chats ”.
- Choose " Chat Backup ”.
- Choose " Back Up Now ”.
Step 3. Press the “Home” button

Method 3 of 3: For WhatsApp Web or Desktop
Step 1. Open WhatsApp via mobile device
This app is marked by a green chat bubble icon which is displayed on the home screen or app page (Android).
- Use this method to log out of your WhatsApp account (which is usually accessed using the desktop application or the web version of WhatsApp) when you're not using a computer.
- If you are using a computer, you can log out of your account by clicking the button and selecting “ Log out ”.
Step 2. Touch the Settings button
It's in the lower-right corner of the app.
Step 3. Touch WhatsApp Web/Desktop
Step 4. Touch Log out from all computers
Step 5. Touch Log out to confirm selection
WhatsApp sessions that are still active on the computer will be closed.
