Java is a programming language and platform that is commonly used in a number of websites and applications. If you don't have Java enabled, you may have difficulty viewing or using certain sites and applications. To use Java, you must activate the add-on through the Java Control Panel, as well as through your Internet browser. Use these steps to enable Java in the Control Panel and in the Internet browser of your choice.

Method 1 of 6: Enabling Java on Microsoft Windows
Step 1. Click the "Start" button and select "Control Panel

Step 2. Type "Java Control Panel" into your Windows Control Panel search box
Step 3. Click the "Java" icon to access the Java Control Panel
Step 4. Click the tab labeled "Security

Step 5. Put a check next to "Enable Java content in the browser

Step 6. Click "Apply," then select "OK" to save your new Java Control Panel settings
Step 7. Close all open Internet browsers, then restart them to apply the new Java settings
Method 2 of 6: Enabling Java on Mac OS X
Step 1. Click the "Apple" icon in the top-left corner of your Mac desktop
Step 2. Click "System Preferences

Step 1. Navigate to "Tools", and select "Internet Options

Step 1. Click the "Firefox" button in the top left corner of your browser

" No other action is required if the button says "Disable."
Method 6 of 6: Enabling Java in Apple Safari
Step 1. Click "Safari" from within your browser, and select "Preferences

Step 4. Close the Safari Preferences window to save changes
Tips
- If you are using a device other than a computer, such as a tablet, smartphone, or game console, your device may not support Java plugins. Check directly with the manufacturer of your device to determine whether the device supports Java or not.
