Magnification or zoom (zoom) is not really a feature of Minecraft. However, the OptiFine mod for Minecraft: Java Edition has improved graphics and the ability to zoom. Minecraft: Java Edition is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. You cannot install mods on Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition or Minecraft for game consoles or smartphones. However, you can reduce the FOV (field-of-view) through the Settings menu, which makes objects look closer. This wikiHow teaches you how to zoom in using the OptiFine mod and how to lower the FOV through the Settings menu.

Method 1 of 3: Using OptiFine Mod on Minecraft: Java Edition
Step 1. Go to https://optifine.net/downloads in your web browser
You can download the OptiFine mod on this site. OptiFine is a graphics enhancement mod where one of its features can be used to zoom in on the Minecraft game. This mod also provides improved graphics, high definition textures, dynamic lighting, realistic water, and much more.
- If you want to install OptiFine and other mods, you'll need Minecraft: Java Edition for Windows, Linux, or Mac. You cannot install mods on Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition or Minecraft for game consoles or mobile devices.
- Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition is not the same as Minecraft: Java Edition. You cannot install OptiFine on Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition. To find out which version of the game you have, run the game and on the title screen check for the words under "Minecraft": is it "Windows 10 Edition" or "Java Edition".
Step 2. Click (Mirror)
You can find this option to the right of the latest version of the OptiFine mod. A page for downloading the OptiFine mod will appear.
Don't click the button that says Download because it will take you to adware sites that could contain malicious programs.
Step 3. Click Download which is under the latest version of OptiFine
The computer will download the ".jar" file for the latest version of OptiFine to the Downloads folder.
- Your browser or antivirus program may find this file dangerous. If you are asked if you want to keep it, click Keep or something similar to confirm that you really want to download it.
- OptiFine can make games run slowly if your computer has a low processor or graphics card.
Step 4. Double-click the OptiFine ".jar" file
The newly downloaded OptiFine ".jar" file is placed in the Downloads folder. Double click the file to start the installation process.
If the file doesn't open, or the coffee cup icon doesn't appear, you'll need to install the latest version of Java
Step 5. Click Install
Doing so will install the OptiFine mod for Minecraft.
In order to install Optifine, you'll need to run the latest version of Minecraft in the Minecraft launcher at least once
Step 6. Click Ok
If the mod has been installed, a warning will appear letting you know that the mod is installed. Close the window by clicking Ok.
Step 7. Open the Minecraft launcher
The Minecraft launcher icon is a block of grass. Launch the Minecraft launcher by clicking this icon in the Windows Start menu or in the Applications folder.
Step 8. Select OptiFine mod
Select "OptiFine" from the drop-down menu to the left of the green "Play" button.
If OptiFine does not appear in the drop-down menu next to the " Play " button, click Installations at the top of the launcher. Next, click New in the upper left corner. Enter a name for this installation (eg "OptiFine"), then use the " Version " menu to select the version with " OptiFine " in the title.
Step 9. Click Play
This green button is at the bottom center of the launcher. This will run the new Minecraft game that has the OptiFine mod enabled.
Step 10. Select Singleplayer, Multiplayer, or Realms.
Single-player games can be found in the "Singleplayer" option. The game server is under " Multiplayer ". The games included in the Minecraft Realms subscription are under "Realms".
Step 11. Select the desired game, then click Play Selected World or Join Servers.
Doing so will either load the Minecraft game, or you'll be connected to a multiplayer server.
- Alternatively, you can click Create New World to start a new game.
- If you use OptiFine, servers that are used by many people or have a lot of details will run slowly.
Step 12. Press and hold the C button
When OptiFine is active, you can zoom in on the game by pressing and holding "C".
Method 2 of 3: Lowering the FOV on Minecraft: Java Edition
Step 1. Open the Minecraft launcher
The Minecraft launcher icon is a block of grass. Open the Minecraft launcher by clicking the Start icon in Windows or the Applications folder. You can use the Minecraft launcher to run Minecraft:
- With a low field of view, the number of objects on the screen will decrease and will enlarge the object in the center. The level of magnification is not too much, but it can make objects look closer.
- Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition is not the same as Minecraft: Java Edition. To find out which version of the game you have, run the game and on the title screen check for the words under "Minecraft": is it "Windows 10 Edition" or "Java Edition".
Step 2. Click Play
This green button is at the bottom center of the launcher. This will run Minecraft.
Step 3. Select Singleplayer, Multiplayer, or Realms.
Single-player games can be found in the "Singleplayer" option. The game server is under " Multiplayer ". The games included in the Minecraft Realms subscription are under "Realms".
Step 4. Select the desired game, then click Play Selected World or Join Servers.
Doing so will either load the Minecraft game, or you'll be connected to a multiplayer server.
Alternatively, you can click Create New World to start a new game.
Step 5. Press the Esc key
The Game menu will open.
Step 6. Click Options…
This is the fourth button on the left side of the Game Menu.
Step 7. Drag the slide bar inside the " FOV " box to the left
The "FOV" bar is at the top left of the Options menu. You can decrease the field of view by dragging the FOV bar towards the left. This brings objects on the screen significantly closer.
Method 3 of 3: Lowering the FOV in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition
Step 1. Run Minecraft
This method works with Minecraft for smartphones, tablets, game consoles, and Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition.

Step 2. Click or tap Play
This button is first at the top of the title page. This page displays saved games that can be played.
Step 3. Select or create a new game
Click the desired game to load it. Single-player games are under the "World" tab. If you want to start a new game, click Create New. You can join a friend's game under the " Friends " tab, or join a multiplayer game in the " Server " tab.
Step 4. Open the game menu
On a tablet or smartphone, you can do this by touching the pause button-shaped icon above which there are 2 vertical lines. On the game console, you can open the game menu by pressing " Options ", " Menu (☰) ", or the "+" button. In Windows 10 Edition, you can press " Esc ".
Step 5. Select Settings
This is the second option in the game menu. Doing so will bring up the Settings menu, which you can use to set your game preferences.
Step 6. Select Videos
You can find this option at the bottom of the Settings menu on the left pane. This option is second under "General".
Step 7. Lower the slider under "FOV"
You can find it in the panel to the right of the menu. This will lower the field of view within the screen. With a low field of view, objects will appear significantly closer.
