This wikiHow teaches you how to upload a photo or video to your Instagram profile, as well as post comments on other users' posts. Uploading content or comments can be done through the mobile and desktop versions of Instagram. However, you need to use a special technique on Google Chrome or Windows 10's Instagram app if you want to send photos or videos to your Instagram profile on a computer.

Method 1 of 5: Uploading Photos and Videos from Instagram Desktop Site
Step 1. Make sure Google Chrome is installed
If a browser is not already available on your computer, install it first before moving on to the next step.
If your Mac doesn't have Chrome, you can use Safari
Step 2. Open the inkognito search window on Google Chrome
Run Google Chrome if it's not already open and click the “ ⋮ ” at the top right of the window, then click “ New incognito window ” above the drop-down menu.
- While it's not mandatory, using the inkognito window saves you from having to log out and back into your Instagram account.
- You can also use the shortcut Ctrl+⇧ Shift+N (Windows) or Command+⇧ Shift+N (Mac) to bring up the incognito window.
Step 3. Click
This button appears in the upper right side of the window. A drop-down menu will open afterwards.
Step 4. Click More tools
This option is displayed under the drop-down menu. When selected, a pop-out menu will open next to the drop-down menu.
Step 5. Select Developer tools
This option is under the pop-out menu. A “Developer” window will open on the right side of the Chrome window.
Step 6. Select the "mobile" icon
This rectangular icon appears in the upper-left corner of the “Developer” window. The icon will turn blue and the web page will reload in mobile format.
The mobile view is already enabled if the icon is blue
Step 7. Access the Instagram website
Click the address bar at the top of your browser window, delete any text if possible, then type in instagram.com and press Enter. After that, the Instagram login page will open.
Step 8. Sign in to the account
Click the link " Log in ” at the bottom of the page, type in your login and password information, then click “ Log in " The Instagram feed page will open in mobile format after that.
Step 9. Click
This button is shown at the bottom of the page. A File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window will open.
Step 10. Select a photo
Click the photo you want to upload to your Instagram profile.
First click the folder containing the desired photos on the left side of the file browsing window if necessary
Step 11. Click Open
This option appears in the lower-right corner of the file browsing window. Selected photos will be uploaded to the Instagram site.
Step 12. Select a filter
Scroll down and click the tab Filter ” at the bottom left of the page, then swipe back on the screen and select the filter you want to use.
This step is not mandatory so you can skip it if you don't want to apply a filter to your photo
Step 13. Click Next
This blue button appears at the top right of the " New Post " page.
Step 14. Add a caption
Click the "Write a caption… " column and enter a photo caption.
Step 15. Click Share
This blue button appears at the top right of the page. The photo will be uploaded to your Instagram profile afterwards.
Method 2 of 5: Uploading Comments from Instagram Desktop Site
Step 1. Open Instagram
Visit the address https://www.instagram.com/. The main Instagram page will load as long as you are logged in to your account.
If not, enter your email address, username, or phone number and password for your account before moving on to the next step
Step 2. Find the post you want to comment on
Swipe through the Instagram feed to find the post you want to comment on. If you know who uploaded the photo or video, you can click the search bar at the top of the page, type in the username, and click the appropriate name when it appears to access their profile page.
Step 3. Select the chat bubble icon
This icon appears below the post. You will be taken to the comments section after that.
- If the photo or video uploader has the comment field turned off, you won't be able to comment on the post.
- You cannot reply to comments on the desktop site.
Step 4. Enter a comment
Type a comment into the text field that opens after clicking the chat bubble icon.
Step 5. Press Enter
Comments will be posted and visible to the uploader and his followers.
Method 3 of 5: Uploading Photos and Videos from Instagram Mobile App
Step 1. Open the Instagram app
Tap the Instagram icon which looks like a colorful front camera. The Instagram home page will be displayed as long as you are logged in to your account.
If not, enter your email address, username, or phone number and account password before continuing
Step 2. Select +
This button appears in the lower-middle corner of the screen. The camera interface will be opened after that.
If the option is not visible, touch the tab “ Home ” which is the house in the lower left side of the screen first.
Step 3. Select the upload option
Select one of the options shown at the bottom of the screen:
- ” Library/Gallery ” – The photo and video galleries stored on the device will be displayed.
- ” Photo ” – The camera interface will be opened for you to take photos.
- ” Videos ” – The camera interface will be opened for you to record video.
Step 4. Take a new photo or video or select an existing content
The selected photo or video will be opened in the editing window.
- When selecting a photo or video, select the link “ Next ” at the top right side of the screen before continuing.
- If you select an existing photo, instead of taking a new photo, you can select multiple photos by tapping the stacked square button in the top right corner of the screen and selecting a maximum of 9 photos to upload simultaneously. Selecting multiple photos creates a slide that other users can swipe through.
Step 5. Choose a photo filter
Touch the photo you want to apply to the selected photo or video.
- Touch the filter one more time to bring up the slider for you to lower the filter effect.
- You can also select the tab “ Edit ” below the screen if you want to edit other aspects of the photo or video (eg brightness or contrast).
Step 6. Select Next
It's in the upper-right side of the screen.
Step 7. Type a description
Select the text field at the top of the screen, then add a photo or video caption.
- You can also tag friends on a photo or video by selecting “ Tag People ”, touch the photo, and search for the friend you want to tag.
- If you want to add location information to the photo, select “ Add Location ”, then touch the appropriate location.
Step 8. Select Share
The in button is displayed on the top right side of the screen. The photo or video will be sent to the Instagram profile. Apart from that, the content will also be live on your followers feed page.
If your account is connected to another social media account (e.g. Facebook or Twitter), tap the switch to the right of the appropriate social media account to upload a photo or video to the respective platform
Method 4 of 5: Uploading Comments from Instagram Mobile App
Step 1. Open the Instagram app
Tap the Instagram icon which looks like a colorful front camera. The Instagram home page will be displayed as long as you are logged in to your account.
If not, enter your email address, username, or phone number and account password before continuing
Step 2. Find the photo or video you want to comment on
Scroll through the feed page to find the post you want to comment on. If you want, you can also tap the search bar at the top of the screen, type in the username, and tap the appropriate name to access their profile if you know the uploader of the photo or video.
Step 3. Select the chat bubble icon
This balloon icon appears below the photo or video you want to comment on. A new page with a comment field will be opened.
- If the photo or video uploader turns off the comments field, you can't comment on the post.
- If you want to reply to an existing comment, select the desired comment and touch the " reply ”.
Step 4. Enter a comment
Type a comment in the field at the bottom of the screen.
Step 5. Select Posts
This button appears at the far right of the column. Comments will be posted and visible to the content uploader and his followers.
Method 5 of 5: Uploading Content from the Windows 10 Instagram App
Step 1. Install Instagram
The Instagram app is available and can be installed on Windows 10 computers. Go to
Microsoft Store and follow these steps:
- Click " Search ”.
- Type in instagram.
- Choose " Instagram ” in the displayed drop-down menu.
- Click " Get ” on the left side of the page.
- Wait for the notification indicating the application has finished installing.
Step 2. Open Instagram
Click the button Launch ” in the Store window or type instagram into the “Start” menu and click “ Instagram ” at the top of the search results list.
Step 3. Log in to Instagram account
Click the button Login ” when prompted, enter your email address, username, or phone number and password, then press Enter. You will be logged into your Instagram account via a computer.
Step 4. Click
It's at the bottom of the Instagram window.
Step 5. Click Camera Roll
This option appears at the top of the Instagram window. A drop-down menu will open afterwards.
If you want to take photos or record videos using your computer's built-in webcam, click “ Photo " or " Videos ” at the bottom of the page, take a photo or record a video by clicking the circular shutter button, and move on to the next three steps.
Step 6. Choose a photo location
Click a folder in the drop-down menu.
Step 7. Select a photo
Place your cursor in the center of the Instagram window and scroll through the page until you find the photo or video you want to upload, then click on the content to select it.
If you want to select multiple contents at once, select “ SELECT MULTIPLE ” and click (maximum) 10 photos and/or videos.
Step 8. Click Next
It's in the upper-right corner of the Instagram window.
Step 9. Select a filter
Click one of the filter icons at the bottom of the window to select it.
- Skip this step if you don't want to apply a filter to your photo or video.
- Double-click a filter to open a menu with a slider that you can slide left or right so you can reduce the intensity of the filter applied to the photo.
Step 10. Click Next
It's in the upper-right corner of the window.
Step 11. Add a caption
Click the text field at the top, then type a caption for the photo or video.
- You can also tag friends on photos or videos by clicking “ Tag People ”, clicking on the photo, and selecting the appropriate friend.
- To add location information to a photo, click “ Add Location ”, then select the appropriate location.
Step 12. Click Share
This button appears in the upper right side of the window. The photo or video will be uploaded to your Instagram profile.
Step 13. Comment on other people's posts
You can upload comments through the Windows 10 Instagram app with these steps:
- Click the chat bubble icon below the post in question.
- Click " reply ” below comments to comment on existing comments.
- Enter a message or comment.
- Click " Post ” on the right side of the text field.
Tips
- When using Instagram with the Google Chrome mobile view, you can click and drag the cursor to move the Instagram “window” that appears in the center of the page.
- Unlike on Facebook, responding to comments on Instagram is a less frequent activity. So don't worry or be offended if no one reads or replies to your comment.
