This wikiHow teaches you how to turn off group chat notifications on WhatsApp and prevent them from appearing on your Android device's home screen.

Step 1. Open WhatsApp Messenger
The WhatsApp icon looks like a green speech bubble with a white telephone receiver inside.
Step 2. Touch the CHATS tab
If WhatsApp immediately displays a different page, go back and go to the “CHATS” tab. This tab displays a list of all private and group chats.
Step 3. Touch the chat group
The chat thread will be displayed in full screen.
Step 4. Touch the three vertical dots icon
It's the chat menu icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu containing chat group management options will be displayed.
Step 5. Select Mute from the menu
A pop-up box will appear so you can choose the option to turn off notifications. With this option, the sound and vibration will be turned off when someone sends a message to the chat group.
Step 6. Select the duration of group notification deactivation
You can choose between " 8 Hours " (8 hours), " 1 week " (one week), and " 1 year " (one year).
Step 7. Uncheck the Show notifications box
This option is under the pop-up window, under the “ 1 year Notifications will not appear on the device's home screen or notification bar when someone uploads a message in a group.
Step 8. Touch OK
The settings will be confirmed and group chat notifications will be turned off for the duration you have specified.
