This wikiHow teaches you how to update Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser. Microsoft support for this browser has been discontinued, which ends in Internet Explorer 11 and cannot be upgraded beyond version 11. Internet Explorer 11 is only provided for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and is installed on Windows 10 even though the default browser for Windows 10 is Microsoft Edge.

Method 1 of 3: Upgrading to Internet Explorer 11
Step 1. Visit the Internet Explorer 11 download page at
In the browser you are using, visit the Internet Explorer 11 download page.
Step 2. Scroll down to find the language you want
A list of languages will appear on the left side of the page.
Step 3. Select the operating system you are using
Your operating system will be displayed to the right of the selected language. Click the link to download the setup file to your computer.
- The Windows 7 setup file can be used in Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 as long as you select the correct format for the version of Windows you are using, i.e. 64-bit or 32-bit.
- If you don't know the bit number on your computer (64-bit or 32-bit), get the information by right-clicking This PC, then Properties, and look at the number of bits to the right of " System Type ".
Step 4. Double-click the Internet Explorer setup icon
You will most likely find it on your desktop.
Step 5. Click Yes when prompted
The Internet Explorer 11 installation window will appear.
Step 6. Follow the given instructions
The steps that must be taken include clicking I agree to agree to Microsoft's terms of use, then click Next, as well as specifying the installation location and deciding whether you want to place a shortcut on the desktop or not.
Step 7. Click Finish
It's in the lower-right corner. Once you click on it, the Internet Explorer 11 installation process is complete.
Method 2 of 3: Enabling Updates in Internet Explorer 10
Step 1. Start Internet Explorer
This browser has a blue "e" icon. You can also search for it by typing "Internet Explorer" into Start.
Step 2. Click the ️ icon
It's in the upper-right corner of the Internet Explorer browser window.
Step 3. Click About Internet Explorer
It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Check the box that says "Install new versions automatically"
It's in the middle of the About Internet Explorer window.
Step 5. Click Close
It's at the bottom of the About Internet Explorer window. From then on, Internet Explorer will automatically be updated.
Method 3 of 3: Updating Microsoft Edge
Step 1. Close Microsoft Edge if the browser is still open
If an update is available for Edge, this program must first be closed for the process to complete.
Step 2. Go to Start
You can do this by clicking the Windows logo in the lower left corner or by pressing Win.
Step 3. Click ️
It's in the lower-left corner of the Start window. The Settings page will open.
Step 4. Click the Update & security option
It's near the bottom of the Settings page.
Step 5. Click Check for updates
It's near the top of the Update & Security page.
Step 6. Wait for the update to finish installing
If "Your device is up to date" appears at the top of the page, it means that the Microsoft Edge browser has been updated.

Microsoft Edge is a replacement browser for Internet Explorer on the Windows 10 platform
Warning
- Despite the Creators update for the Windows 10 platform, Internet Explorer is still considered a browser vulnerable to attacks. Do not use this browser unless you have no other choice.
- Do not download Internet Explorer from any source other than the official Microsoft site.
