New potatoes are potatoes that are harvested very young, with sugar content not yet converted into starch. These potatoes are small, thin-skinned, and the flesh is soft and tender when cooked. Potatoes taste best when they are baked or boiled, rather than fried. This article provides three ways to cook potatoes: pan roasted, boiled, and mashed.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Baking Potatoes in a Frying Pan
Step 1. Gather all the ingredients
You'll need the following ingredients to make delicious skillet baked potatoes:
- 450 gr potatoes
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped
- Salt and pepper
Step 2. Prepare the potatoes for baking
Wash the potatoes in cold water, carefully scrubbing away dirt and other debris. Cut each potato into bite-sized pieces; For small potatoes, cut them in half.
-
Since potato skins are very thin, you don't need to peel them.
-
Use a knife to cut off any bruises or spots.
Step 3. Put butter and oil in a skillet over medium heat
Let the butter and oil melt together.
A cast-iron skillet is perfect for roasting potatoes, as it retains heat well without overheating, but also creates a crispy crust on the potatoes
Step 4. Put the potatoes in the pan with the cut side down
Cook for about five minutes until the potatoes are brown and crispy. Turn the potatoes so that each side is brown.
Step 5. Season the potatoes with salt and pepper
Use tongs or a wooden spoon to turn the potatoes over and make sure all sides are covered with the seasoning.
-
Add dry herbs such as rosemary, thyme, or oregano if you want more flavor to the potatoes.
-
Add chopped onion or garlic if desired.
Step 6. Cover the pan with a lid
Reduce the heat to medium low and allow the potatoes to cook until soft, about 15 minutes.
-
Check the potatoes often to make sure they are not overcooked.
-
If the potatoes absorb the butter and oil and seem to be drying out, add 1/4 cup of water.
Step 7. Remove the potatoes from the pan
Serve as a accompaniment to chicken, fish, or steak, or mix in salads.
