This article teaches you how to calculate the average standard error using Excel. Calculate the standard error by dividing the Standard Deviation (σ) by the square root (√) of the number of samples.
Step
Step 1. Open Microsoft Excel
The app has a green icon that looks like a spreadsheet with an “X” on it.
Step 2. Open or create a new Excel document
If you already have a document containing data, reopen it by clicking “Open” or Open. You can also create a new document by clicking “New” or New and entering the data you want to use.
Step 3. Find the Standard Deviation
Although calculating the Standard Deviation usually requires several mathematical steps, you can do this by typing the following formula =stdev(''cell range'').
For example, if your data is in boxes A1 to A20, type =stdev(A1:A20) into an empty box to get the Standard Deviation number
Step 4. Type the Standard Average Error formula into an empty box
The formula for calculating Standard Average Error in Excel is =stdev(''cell range'')/SQRT(count("cell range")).
