Beautiful little paper stars you can use as decorations, jewelry, crafts or gifts. These decorations are very easy to make, and are a fun way to recycle unused trash into colorful and decorative items. To make your own lucky star, see Step 1 to get started.
Step
Step 1. Cut the paper into long, narrow strips, 1cm wide and whatever length you cut out
Step 2. Make a simple knot (use a shoelace knot) at one end
Then:
- Cross the ends of the pieces and pull one end through the roll formed. To create a certain color on one end of the cut, tie a knot at the other end. Don't twist the paper, just roll it.
- Gently tighten the knot, then gently pull the knot without tangling or squeezing the piece of paper.
- When all the ends are connected, press down and fold. The result is a pentagon with a long end and a short end sticking out.
Step 3. Fold the short edge over the edge of the pentagon so it doesn't stick out
If any of the pieces are slightly more than the width of the pentagon, tear or fold them down and tuck them in.
Step 4. Wrap the long end around the pentagon following the edges and folds
The result will be a fat pentagon. If the two sides of the piece are a different color, fold them so that the desired color is facing out.
Step 5. Fold the loose ends
If there's too much, fold or tear before tucking.
Step 6. Pinch each corner or push it to the edge to puff out the stars
Step 7. Use the stars as the display
- Make lots of stars to display in bottles or clear glass.
- Mix the stars with confetti or tinsel as part of a party decoration on the table.
- Sew a few stars using thread or string through the corner opposite the string to make a strand or necklace. Pair it with paper beads or other objects on the same string.
Tips
- Use a paper cutter or ruler to get a nice, straight cut. If it's not there, fold the paper and cut along the crease with scissors to get a straight cut.
- Use a small amount of used wrapping paper for a lovely effect, especially if the paper is mixed up -- Stars can also be put in bottles and given to your loved ones.
- Fold the star loosely for easier puffing.
- You can also buy special paper for this in stores.
- To make multiple stars, cut several pieces of paper at once. Leave it on your phone, computer, or TV, or create a small craft tool (some of which you can take with you).
- To make a star on special occasions, make sure you use the right colors.
Warning
- Be careful not to scratch the edges of the paper.
- Use scissors responsibly. Children should be supervised when cutting paper.
