You can call yourself a tea fan if there is a light brown stain on the bottom of all your ceramic cups. Tea and coffee can cause the formation of residual stains in the cup. However, you don't need to use harsh chemicals to remove the stain. You can simply use a baking soda paste, which can remove stains effectively.
Step
Step 1. Wash the cup as usual
This will remove any excess dirt and you can just use regular dish soap. Start with a cup that is as clean as possible.
Step 2. Wet the cup
If the cup is not already wet, wet it with hot water. It's easier to remove the stain when there's a little moisture in the cup for the baking soda to stick to.
Step 3. Sprinkle baking soda into the cup
Half a tsp is enough to remove the stain. You just need to sprinkle in enough baking soda to make a runny paste.
Step 4. Rub the stain using a soft cloth
A paste-like film will form as you rub the moistened cup. Focus on the areas that have the darkest stain color.
Step 5. Check for stains and continue scrubbing
Use a little force when scrubbing directly the stained area of the cup. Continue scrubbing until the stain is lifted. You may need to rotate the cup while scrubbing, to make sure you reach the entire stained area.
Step 6. Rinse the cup
Remove any remaining baking soda from the cup by rinsing it with warm water. Check to see if you've removed all of the stain. If the stain is gone, turn the cup upside down and let it dry before putting it back in the storage bin.
Step 7. Repeat if needed
If you still see stains after scrubbing, repeat the process with more baking soda. The stain will usually be removed after an additional procedure or two.
Tips
- You can also soak stained items in white vinegar. The vinegar will remove tea and coffee stains, as well as hard water deposits.
- If desired, salt can be used instead of baking soda.
- You can also use toothpaste to clean stains.
