Slime is interesting, both for children and adults. Fortunately, now slime can also be a fun experiment to learn. There are several ways to make slime from household products, including items like baking soda or milk. You can make a basic mix, or make it even more interesting by making a bowl of frothy slime.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Making Slime from Soap
Step 1. Prepare a cup of baking soda
Pour a cup of baking soda (250 mL) into a mixing bowl. You can start the mixture with about a cup, but there is no fixed size for this type of slime. Maybe you will need less or less than a cup. Does not matter.
Step 2. Add the green dish soap to the baking soda
Dip a small amount of green dishwashing powder into the baking soda. Make sure it's green so the slime is green too. Use a spoon to stir the soap. Add the soap little by little until the slime mixture is creamy and solid.
The amount of dish soap you need will vary. Add little by little to get the right consistency. The result should look like green pudding
Step 3. Add more baking soda if the mixture is too runny
If you accidentally add too much soap, the slime will look runny. If the consistency is too runny, add a little baking soda to make up for it.
Step 4. Add a little food coloring if necessary
If the green in your slime isn't as intense as you'd like, just add a few drops of green food coloring to make the color more intense.
Step 5. Play with slime
You can use toys with slime. Pretend that this slime is toxic waste and your doll falls on it and is saved by a superhero, for example. You can also add slime as a diorama decoration. Make a diorama of a haunted house and sprinkle some slime to make it even more spooky.
Don't eat slime. Slime is not safe for consumption
Method 2 of 3: Making Frothy Slime
Step 1. Put the vinegar in a bowl
Add two cups (about liter) of white vinegar to the bowl. Use white vinegar, do not replace it with other types such as apple cider vinegar.
Step 2. Add xanthan gum
Xanthan gum is a thickening and stabilizing agent. You can buy them online or at the grocery store. Add about 6 mL of xanthan gum to the bowl of vinegar and stir. Keep stirring until all the white particles are dissolved and the entire mixture appears smooth and even.
Xanthan gum is sometimes difficult to find in supermarkets. Maybe you should buy it from the internet. Buy it a few days before you plan to make this type of slime
Step 3. Add green food coloring
A few drops of green dye will give the slime a "slime" effect. Start with a few small drops and add them until they are the color you want.
Step 4. Refrigerate the mixture overnight
At this time the consistency of the mixture is still too runny to use. For a gooey texture, chill the mixture in the refrigerator. Although the mixture will only need to sit for two to three hours to thicken, it is better to let it sit overnight to allow the xanthan gum to completely dissolve.
Step 5. Sprinkle baking soda over the bottom of the new container
Perform this step over the sink or in the soaking tub so that the surface is easy to clean later. Sprinkle baking soda over the bottom of an empty container/bowl so that a thin layer of baking soda covers the surface.
Step 6. Stir the slime again
Once the mixture is removed from the refrigerator, stir. Keep stirring until the slime looks cloudy and thick.
Step 7. Add vinegar until the consistency is just right
To test if the mixture is ready, scoop some of the mixture out of the bowl and pour it back in. The mixture should fall quickly. If it's too thick, add a little vinegar and mix again. Keep adding vinegar until the mixture is quite runny.
Step 8. Pour the mixture over the baking soda
Once the slime has thickened, pour it over the baking soda. Baking soda is alkaline and slime is acidic because of the vinegar. Adding baking soda will turn the slime into frothy and foamy. The more baking soda you add, the longer the slime's froth will last and the great foam.
Step 9. Play with slime
There are many ways to play with foamy slime. You can pretend this slime is poisoned water on an alien planet, for example, and play with the astronaut doll. You can use a stuffed dinosaur to pretend it's prehistoric slime. Some people were content with just observing the foamy slimes.
- Wash the toys thoroughly after you play them in the slime.
- Do not eat slime because slime is not safe for digestion.
Method 3 of 3: Making Polymer Slime
Step 1. Add milk to the glass
Put seven tablespoons of nonfat or skim milk in a glass or bowl. The fat content in regular milk can make the texture of slime not right. So, don't replace skim milk with whole milk or 2% milk.
Step 2. Add vinegar
Add a tablespoon of vinegar to the milk. One tablespoon of vinegar is enough to separate the milk proteins from the liquid. Adding vinegar will increase the acidity and force the proteins to separate from the liquid.
Solid milk lumps begin to form when the milk reacts with the vinegar. These chunks will slowly sink to the bottom of the glass as the reaction occurs
Step 3. Strain the milk solution through a coffee filter
Once the lumps of milk settle to the bottom, pour the solution through the coffee filter. The liquid will flow through the sieve and leave lumps of milk on top. Pat the lumps of milk with a paper towel to dry them and remove any remaining water. Transfer the lumps to a clean mixing bowl.
Step 4. Add the baking soda
Once the lumps of milk have been transferred to the bowl, add tablespoon (about 4 mL) of baking soda. The baking soda will help hold the protein together and make it a more solid consistency. The dough will start to resemble slime. Stir the baking soda with the milk until you get the consistency of a mixture that looks like vanilla custard.
You may have to add more baking soda, depending on how much milk you have. If you're having trouble getting a vanilla pudding-like consistency, add a little bit of baking soda until it's just the right consistency
Step 5. Add a few drops of green food coloring to color the slime
Add a few drops and mix well. If you want a darker green, just add a few more drops.
Step 6. Play with slime
Once the slime is finished, you can play with it. You can shape slime by hand or use it to decorate something like a diorama. Use slime in a diorama, for example, to make a gloomy pond in the middle of a forest.
Don't let the slime be eaten. Slime is not safe for consumption
Tips
- Supervise children when making slime.
- If the slime is getting thicker, add water.
Warning
- Don't let children eat the slime.
- Vinegar is acidic and baking soda is alkaline. Use safety glasses and gloves when handling or watching slime making.
