This wikiHow teaches you how to create a YouTube link that will play the linked video at a specified time.

Method 1 of 2: Copying Video Link
Step 1. Open YouTube
Visit https://www.youtube.com/ through your computer's web browser. The YouTube main page will appear after that.
If you are not logged into your account, click “ SIGN IN ” in the upper right corner of the screen and enter the email address and password for the account. This step is not mandatory, unless the video you want to access is limited to a certain age group.
Step 2. Open the video you want to use
Find the video you want to link to in a specific time, then click or tap on the video to open it.
Step 3. Choose the right time
Wait or drag the playback slider to the timestamp you want to embed on the video link.
Step 4. Click the “Pause” icon
It's in the lower-left corner of the video playback window.
Step 5. Right-click the video window
After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
- If annotations or captions are enabled, make sure you right-click the part of the video that doesn't show annotations. You can also disable annotations by clicking the gear icon at the bottom of the video window and selecting the red " Annotations " switch.
- On a Mac, hold down the Control key while clicking the video.
Step 6. Click Copy video URL at current time
This option is in the drop-down menu. Once clicked, the video URL will be copied to the computer clipboard.
If you want to share the link directly using YouTube's sharing options, instead of copying or pasting the link manually, press the Share button in the bottom right corner of the video. At the bottom of the new window, there is a checkbox that allows you to specify whether the video should be played from a certain time marker. Check the box and choose whether you want to copy the link, send the video link to someone on YouTube, or share it via several social media options
Step 7. Paste the copied link
To paste a link into a text field (e.g. a Facebook upload or an email), click the text field, then press Ctrl+V (Windows) or Command+V (Mac) to add a link to the field.
Step 8. Add timestamps or timestamps manually
If you want to manually create a link to a YouTube video that plays at a specific time, follow these steps:
- Place the cursor at the far right of the video URL.
- Specify the timestamp or starting point of the video you want to embed into the link in seconds (e.g. if you want the video to start at the fifth minute, type “300”).

Type &t=#s at the end of the address. Make sure you replace “#” with seconds (eg.
&t=43s
).
For example, https://www.youtube.com/embed/dQw4w9WgXcQ would be
- Select the video URL.
- Press Ctrl+C (Windows) or Command+C (Mac) to copy the URL.
- Paste the URL anywhere by pressing Ctrl+V or Command+V.
Method 2 of 2: Creating a Link in the Comment Segment
Step 1. Open YouTube
Visit https://www.youtube.com/ through your computer's web browser. The YouTube main page will appear after that.
On mobile devices, simply touch the YouTube app icon
Step 2. Open the video you want to use
Find the video you want to link to in a specific time, then click or tap on the video to open it.
Step 3. Make a note of the video timestamp that you want to add to the link
Slide the slider or rotate the video until you reach the scene or section you want to use, then review the section's stamp or timestamp in the lower-left corner of the video playback window.

For example, if the video is 20 minutes long and you want to link to a scene at the fifth minute, you'll see
5:00 / 20:00
- in the lower-left corner of the video window. In this indicator, "5:00" is a time stamp or marker for the scene or part being played.
Step 4. Scroll to the comment section or " Comments"
This segment is below the video window.
On mobile, you will need to scroll through the screen and go through all the related video options to reach the " Comments " section
Step 5. Select the comment field
Click or tap the comments field at the top of the “Comments section.
Step 6. Enter the timestamp
Type in a timer (eg 5:00 for the fifth minute) for the scene or part of the video you want to link to.
Step 7. Click COMMENT
It's a blue button to the right of the comment field. After that, the comments will be uploaded and the timestamp will be turned into an active link. You or another user can click on the marker to switch or jump to a segment or video scene at the marked time.
