This wikiHow teaches you how to place text on an image. You can do this using Paint for Windows, Preview for Mac, and an app called "Phonto" for iPhone and Android smartphones.
Step
Method 1 of 3: For Windows Computer
Step 1. Open the “Start” menu
Click the Windows logo in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Step 2. Type paint into the “Start” menu
After that, the computer will look for a Paint program that can be used to add text to the desired image.
Step 3. Click Paint
These programs are indicated by a palette icon at the top of the menu. After that, the Paint window will open.
Step 4. Click File
It's in the upper-left corner of the Paint window. After that, a pop-out window will be displayed.
Step 5. Click Open
It's at the top of the pop-out menu. After that, the File Explorer window will be displayed.
Step 6. Click the folder containing the image
On the left side of the File Explorer window, click the folder containing the image you want to add text to.
For example, if the desired image is stored on the desktop, locate and click the “ Desktop ”.
Step 7. Select an image
Click the image you want to add text to to select it.
Step 8. Click Open
It's in the lower-right corner of the File Explorer window. After that, the photo will open in the Paint program.
Step 9. Click the A button
It's in the "Tools" section of the toolbar at the top of the Paint window.
Step 10. Create a text box
Click and drag the cursor over the segment of the photo where you want to add text, then release the button.
You can also directly click on the photo to place a text box (automatically set size) on the image
Step 11. Enter text
Type the text you want to add to the photo.
- You can edit the font, size, and format of the text by selecting the text and using the tools shown in the "Font" section of the toolbar.
- To change the color of the text, click a color in the " Colors " section of the toolbar.
Step 12. Adjust the size of the text box if necessary
Click and drag the edge of the text box downwards or outwards. This step is useful when you create a box with plain text and want to change the text size afterwards.
Step 13. Save the text on the photo
Click the menu " File " and select " Save ” in the menu that appears next. Changes will be saved on the original photo.
If you want to save the photo with the new text as a separate file, click the “ File ", choose " Save As ”, and enter a new file name in the " File name " field before clicking “ Save ”.
Method 2 of 3: For Mac Computer
Step 1. Open Finder
Click the blue face icon that appears in your computer's Dock.
Step 2. Click the photos folder
On the left side of the Finder window, click the folder where you want to save the image you want to use.
Step 3. Open the image
Double-click the image to which you want to add text. After that, the image will be opened in Preview.
Step 4. Click Tools
It's at the top of the screen. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 5. Select Annotate
It's in the middle row of the drop-down menu " Tools " After that, a pop-out menu will be displayed on the right side of the “ Tools ”.
Step 6. Click Text
This option is in the menu " Annotate " After that, a text box with the words " Text ” will be added to the photo.
Step 7. Enter the desired text on the image
Double click the Text ” on the photo, then type the word or phrase you want to add.
You can edit text properties or settings by clicking the A button at the top of the Preview window and selecting a different text size, font, and/or color
Step 8. Reposition the text box
Click and drag the text to move it, or click and drag the circle icon to the left or right of the text to resize the text box.
Step 9. Save the photo
Click the menu File ” in the upper left corner of the screen, then click “ Save ” in the drop-down menu. After that, the text changes will be saved on the photo.
Method 3 of 3: For Mobile Devices
Step 1. Download Phonto
This app allows you to add text to photos, both for iPhone and Android phones. To download Phonto:

iPhone - Open
App Store, touch " Search ”, touch the search bar, type in phonto and touch the button “ Search " Choose " Phonto, touch the button “ GET ”, and enter your password or Touch ID when prompted.

Android Device - Open
Google Play Store, touch the search bar, type in phonto and select “ Phonto - Text on Photos " Touch the button “ INSTALL, then select " ACCEPT ' when prompted.
Step 2. Open Phonto
Touch the button “ OPEN ” on the device's app store after the app has finished downloading. You can also tap the red Phonto app icon that appears on the home screen (iPhone) or the app page/drawer (Android).
Step 3. Touch the center of the screen
After that, the menu will be displayed.
Step 4. Touch Photo Albums
It's at the top of the menu. After that, the device photo album will be opened.
On Android devices, touch the option “ Load new image from device… ”.
Step 5. Select a photo
Touch the photo storage album, select the desired photo, and touch the “ Done ” to open it in the main Phonto window.
On Android devices, the photo will open in a Phonto window after being touched
Step 6. Create a new text box
Touch the photo, then select “ Add Text ' when prompted.
On Android devices, tap the pencil icon at the top of the screen
Step 7. Enter text
Type in the word or phrase you want to use/add to the photo, then touch the “ Done ”.
Step 8. Edit the text
Touch and drag the text to reposition it, or touch an option above or below the text to change the font type, style, size, position, and/or format of the text.
For example, you can touch “ Fonts ” to select a new font type.
Step 9. Save the photo
Touch the "Share" icon
in the lower right corner of the screen, then select Save Image ”.
