You want to make your own gazebo with low cost? Traditional gazebos can cost up to 36 million rupiah and even more if built at home. If you're looking to save money and have a designer gazebo, follow this guide to create a unique gazebo that will wow your family and neighbors, for only a third of the usual cost!
Step
Part 1 of 3: Building the Walls
Step 1. Build the pole
You will need four posts on each corner. The height or distance between the posts is up to you, but we recommend a 10x10 cm beam of 360 cm long.
- Mark on the ground a 240x240 cm square on the location of the gazebo you have chosen and dig a hole for the posts to stick using the hole punch tool.
- Level the pile in the hole that is 240 cm high from the ground and 240 cm between the corners in the pile.
- Then quickly enter the cement, making sure the position of the poles is straight and the height is even. Fill 2/3 of the hole around the post with cement, the rest can be filled with soil after the cement hardens.
Step 2. Install the reinforcing beams
Use 6 10x10 cm beams to tie the 3 “closed” sides of the gazebo together. The beams are installed perpendicular to the posts, 2 beams on each side, 5 cm from the top and 5 cm from the bottom (the distance can be adjusted, read the full instructions). Attach the joists with two large bolts threaded through the posts to the center of each joist.
- This is a job that should be done by two or three people. At least one person needs to hold the beam while the other installs the bolt.
- You can pre-drill the holes for the bolts before installing the beam.
- The distance between the two beams depends on whether or not you are adding windows, and the dimensions of the window if you want to use windows. If using windows, measure the height of the window and add 3.75 cm to get the distance between the tie beams.
Step 3. Add windows
Use old wood and glass windows. Place it in the center of each of the three walls and mark the width. Then make a frame for the window using 2, 5x10 cm wood. The height should be equal to the window and the distance between the tie beams (by entering the width of the frame itself). Nail the frame in position, insert the window into it and fix it with nails on each side.
- The nail should stick out 0.6 cm. Bring it as close as possible to the window itself so it doesn't shake. Three or four nails on each side of the window may suffice.
- You can seal the nails with wood glue or putty if desired.
Step 4. Cut the top blocks
You'll need four more blocks to tie the posts together at the top. The length is approximately 257.5 cm. Cut squares of 8, 75x8, 75x1, 875 cm at the ends of the four blocks, the pieces must be the same side on each block. Use the indentations to put the blocks together like a puzzle by bringing the two curves together. Such a puzzle-like encounter is called a half-lap splice joint.
Step 5. Put the top blocks together
Glue all the blocks together and place them on top of the posts using one or two bolts threaded through the joists into the posts.
Part 2 of 3: Building the Roof
Step 1. You will need 5 more 10x10 cm blocks
Four blocks are 182.5 cm long and one beam is 257.5 cm long. Cut the ends of each block at a 45° angle.
Step 2. Bolt the flat side of the 182.5 cm block to the end of the 257.5 cm beam so that the two triangles are connected with a 257.5 cm beam between them
Make sure you keep the angle 45° so that it sits flat against the wall. The distance between the bolts should be at least 2.5 cm.
Step 3. Install the roof beams
Hold the roof on one side, bolts on the ends of each post. Make sure the bolts are not too long so that the ends of the bolts don't come out of the posts.
Step 4. Install the windows
You can also install windows on the roof (windows that are smaller than wall windows). The method is the same as a wall window, but you must install the top frame first. Measure the height of the window frame, before making sure the window fits in a triangle. Then measure and cut a 10x10 cm block to the height of the window and fix it with bolts. Once the frame is installed the window can be inserted as before.
Part 3 of 3: Adding the Finishing Touch
Step 1. Paint the gazebo structure
You can paint the entire wooden structure in any color you want. Paint in a color that matches the color of your home or paint it in a bold color to accent your backyard. Make sure the paint is suitable for outdoor use. Paint can protect the wood and extend the life of the wooden structure of the gazebo.
Step 2. Add the covering material
You can use aluminum or fiberglass for the roof, fix it with nails. However, for a gazebo-like appearance in the design maja, attach hooks 2.5 cm from the top and bottom of each corner of the roof beam (inside area). Hang cables between hooks and use curtains with poles above and below to create a curtained roof that's as pretty as designer designs.
Step 3. Create the wall
You can install curtains on the inside of the structure to create a detachable wall. Curtains can be tied to posts when not in use.
Step 4. Create a unique gazebo
You can add various additions to the gazebo. Hang the flowerpot between the post and the window. Pair the lights for a romantic effect. Fill it with chairs and tables or even a bed! Only your imagination can limit creation.
Tips
- Make sure you check if you need a permit to build a gazebo.
- Don't forget to install the floor if you want. Natural stone or brick can be an inexpensive choice of material for flooring.
