Scorpions are considered and notoriously difficult to kill. Animals that are classified as 'arachnids' are very venomous and are used to living in harsh environments, so they are immune and do not react to most pesticides. The most effective way to get rid of scorpions is to pierce their shells with a sharp object, or use sharp-toothed animals that prey on scorpions to represent you killing these scorpions. For more details, read the following steps.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Killing Scorpions with Tools
Step 1. Protect your body with suitable clothing
Wear thick jeans or pants, thick leather shoes, and thick gloves in case the scorpion gets close enough to you and tries to attack.
Step 2. Look for sharp objects
In Arizona, where scorpions are a common sight in both bedrooms and backyards, large, long tweezers can be found in hardware stores. You can use this tool to pierce the shell and then pinch the scorpion and throw it away. If this tool is not available in your area, use long-edged scissors, a long knife, or another long sharp object where possible.
Step 3. Insert the tool into the scorpion's body
Scorpions don't generally move very fast, but you have to act swiftly to make sure you can kill them before they escape. If necessary, stab the scorpion again until you're sure it's dead.
-
You can also use a blunt object, such as a heavy book, shoe, or hammer to crush the shell and kill the scorpion. However, some scorpions had the ability to flatten themselves into the thinnest of a coin, so just hitting the scorpion might not be enough to kill it. Try to twist the foot of your shoe or use a rock or other hard object to ensure that the scorpion is crushed and killed. When the scorpion has stopped moving or when its body has fallen into pieces it is easier to confirm that it is dead.
Step 4. Look for scorpions at night
If scorpions have become a problem in your home, you can get rid of them by killing them at night, when they are active. Purchase an ultra violet (UV) light bulb from the nearest hardware store and use it in your flashlight. Shine your flashlight into walls, corners and along bedroom walls, and in other areas where scorpions are common. The shell will glow by a UV lamp.
Don't forget to check the exterior walls of your home as well. Scorpions can also be found in rock piles and similar hiding places
Step 5. Also consider hiring a professional pest control service
If the mere thought of interacting with a scorpion scares you, then calling a professional to help you is the right move. Because in some areas you can hire a professional to come home and hunt scorpions for you.
-
For some pest control agencies, they may suggest spraying pesticides instead of stepping in and killing the scorpion. It might be worth a try, but many people have proven that this method is not effective in getting rid of scorpions.
Method 2 of 3: Trying Alternative Methods
Step 1. Release a cat
Cats are predators of scorpions, and most cats enjoy hunting, killing and eating them so you don't have to worry about getting rid of the scorpion yourself. If you don't have a cat yet, please consider getting one.
Step 2. Raise the chickens
Chickens also like to eat scorpions. Chickens also keep other pests away, including insects that scorpions eat, making them doubly effective in reducing scorpion populations.
Step 3. Try diatomaceous earth
This natural material is made from fossilized mills. Diatomaceous earth is a fine white powder that can be sprinkled on doors, cracks and cracks indoors or out. This material is completely safe for humans and your pets, but the tiny fragments of the fossil are very effective in penetrating/piercing the scorpion's shell when it walks and it is covered in the powder. This diatomaceous earth can also kill spiders, cockroaches and other insects.
Step 4. Install the sticky trap
The same traps that can be used to get rid of mice or cockroaches can be used against scorpions as well. Place these traps in dark corners and near water sources. If you have caught a scorpion, remove the trap and set another one in the same area, as it is likely that other scorpions will also pass through that area.
Method 3 of 3: Keeping Scorpions away from your home
Step 1. Destroy the insect hiding places
Scorpions like to live in dark crevices as a shelter. Check both inside and out for possible hiding places for the scorpion.
- Make sure your boxes are tightly closed and kept off the ground on the shelves you have.
- Tidy up your room. Arrange clothes and shoes neatly, as far away from the floor as possible.
- Keep piles of wood and stones away from your yard.
Step 2. Get rid of other pests
Scorpions eat insects, so if you have other pests in your home, it can be very difficult to control the scorpion population. Keep your house clean, splash boric acid, diatomaceous earth on the edges of the house, and use insecticides to get rid of pests.
Step 3. Secure Your Home
Scorpions can flatten their bodies and enter through very small holes and cracks. Check your house's foundations and crevices that could be a scorpion's entry point. If there is, paste it with putty. Check your doors, window frames, vents, chimneys, and other places where scorpions can get in, and make sure they're closed properly.
Step 4. Keep your house dry
Scorpions are attracted to wet/humid places. Make sure none of your pipes are leaking, and install an air purifier in the bathroom to dry quickly after use. Do not leave wet towels on the floor.
Tips
- Use a (UV) light to spot scorpions outside and at night as they are nocturnal and easily blend into the environment. You can even find babies in the grass with this light. It will glow bright green when exposed to this light.
- Move fast while trying to kill the scorpion. Scorpions can move quickly, so it is difficult to find them if they are crawling under an object.
- Spread diatomaceous earth around the house. This will not necessarily prevent the scorpion from entering, but the compounds contained will make the scorpion dehydrated quickly.
- Use a propane torch to kill the scorpion in the crack in the house wall. If the heat is enough, you can kill all the scorpions inside the wall at once.
- If you've been killing scorpions in and around your home a lot, then focus on removing the bugs from your home as well. Scorpions eat insects, so they usually come back with an influx of insects. Eliminating the food source will eliminate the presence of scorpions in and around your home.
- Simple tips; pour vinegar on it!
- Scorpion glows in the dark. Use a flashlight with a UV light bulb at night or turn off the lights at home to help you spot the scorpion.
Warning
- Never hold a scorpion with your bare hands. You can get stung.
- Don't step on the scorpion and kill it with your bare feet. You can get stung.
