How voodoo dolls can become a means to cast a spell on someone is unknown, but like ouija boards/spirit boards and cards, voodoo dolls are also well known outside of the spiritual traditions from which they originate. The fun thing about making a voodoo doll is that almost anything can be used!
Step
Method 1 of 4: Using Yarn
Step 1. Wrap the foam ball with yarn
This will be the head – how big do you want the head to be? Regardless of the size, wrap it completely in twine (or other yarn-like material) until you can't see the foam anymore. Glue the ends with glue.
If you don't have a foam ball, make a small ball from a skein of yarn. Wrap it around your finger over and over again, untwist the loop, then loop it around until it forms a figure 8, then double over each other. Then wrap the base until it forms a circle. Make sure that the loop is strong! Don't let it fall apart. Then thread the ends through the center of the ball or use glue to glue the ends
Step 2. Determine the length of the body and then wind the thread according to that length several times
Do it twice. One loop will become the left arm and the right loop will become the right arm and leg.
It is clear? Let's say you want the body to be 12.5 cm long (to get a smaller voodoo doll, the head must be larger than the body). Take a piece of yarn and measure it to a length of 12.5 cm, then wrap another 12.5 cm, another 12.5 cm and so on. After you've looped four or five times, decide. Repeat the same action one more time
Step 3. Wrap the two halves from top to bottom in a strand
Starting at the bottom of the loop, wrap the loop in strands upward as if making a coil. Make it tight! Glue the ends with glue. Now you have two 12.5 cm strands of yarn.
Step 4. Wrap a few strands of yarn around the head
Tie it at the base of the head. Leave an inch or two (2.5 cm to 5 cm) to hold everything together.
Step 5. Spread the sections like branches
The two halves you just combined? Place it under the head in the shape of a ball in the form of arms and legs. The remaining part of the last stage will be used as the torso.
Step 6. Wrap from the "armpit" to the hips
Start from the top down then up again. If you want your voodoo doll to be a little chubby, keep wrapping it.
When you're almost done, wrap the last few sections around the shoulders in an "X" shape. It will look like a mummy. On the back of the doll, glue the ends of the thread to seal
Step 7. Glue or sew on the eye
If you have a needle and thread, sew on the buttons to make the voodoo eyes look pretty. If not, take a pair of beads or buttons and glue them to the head. Now! So the voodoo doll.
Method 2 of 4: Using Natural Items
Step 1. Gather the materials
To make an authentic New Orleans voodoo doll, you'll need a few basic ingredients: two sticks, some kind of "stuffing" (Spanish moss, pineapple leaf, or grass), string or wire, a piece of cloth and glue. If you want to dress the doll up a bit, you can also use buttons, feathers, patchwork and other decorations you can add.<
Step 2. Make a cross shape with sticks
The long stick will become part of his body, while the shorter stick (placed about a quarter of the way from the top of the long stick) will become his arm. Tie the two sticks together with twine, hemp string, or scouring string in a criss-cross motion so you can make X marks on both sides of the doll's body.
Step 3. Wrap the filling around the sticks
Start in the middle for support, then work your way up to the head, down one arm, back across to the other arm, back to the middle, and down.
If you're using Spanish moss, try wrapping the dolls together. The idea is to make the doll stronger
Step 4. Wrap the cloth around the moss
Make sure there are visible parts of the moss, for example on the head (for hair), on the ends of the arms, and the bottom. Fasten with sticky glue. You may want to support with a pair of stitches using a needle and thread.
Step 5. Create the face
Attach the beads with a needle and thread for the eyes, or glue two cowpeas for the eyes. Add a button or bead for the mouth.
This step is optional. Voodoo dolls can still be used without a face
Step 6. Dress up your voodoo doll (optional)
Dressing up a doll can give it some personality, while also marking it as a boy or a girl. You can also give stuffed to the doll, such as a pouch such as a mojo bag or an asmak pack.
- Remember that a voodoo doll is considered to represent a person in real life or a spirit. Sometimes dolls are made to look like people you know, so you need to add hair or clothing, pictures, or personal belongings to channel energy into the doll.
- A mojo pouch is a pouch that someone carries with it containing spells, prayers or other magical items.
- The asmak package contains several lines of verses from the holy Qur'an and some amulets.
Method 3 of 4: Using Photos and Fabric
Step 1. Find a full body photo of the person you want to make a voodoo doll for
Oh, finally! Facebook helps. Try looking for a photo facing the front.
Step 2. Print the photo on a sheet of paper
Once it's printed, you'll place it on the fabric so the bigger the better. Try to make it as big as possible. You will need a doll the size of standard printer paper.
Step 3. Transfer the image to an ironed white cloth
Follow the instructions that came with the photo transfer paper. In most cases, it involves ironing and waiting a few minutes.
Step 4. Cut to the shape of the person, leaving room for the seam
About 1 inch (2.5 cm) on all sides will be good enough. This will give volume and content to your doll. Also makes it easier to cut!
Step 5. Cut the same shape from the second fabric
This will be the back of the doll. If you want another color, go ahead! Voodoo dolls come in various shapes, colors and sizes.
Step 6. Sew the parts together
Do the same thing on the right side (which has a picture) opposite. In other words, after stitching will arise. Leave a hole in the center for the filling in the next step. Trim off the excess fabric at the edges when you're done.
If you don't have a good seam that's okay. It will be hidden when you flip the side of the doll
Step 7. Fill the doll
You can use patchwork, knitting yarn, cotton or other filling material. The stuffing of the cotton blanket will be very light. If you want something heavier -- something to stimulate life -- consider rice or some other heavier ingredient.
Step 8. Sew the filling hole to close
You have created life! Now what to do? Will you use power for good…for evil?
Method 4 of 4: Performing Actions on Puppets
Step 1. Understand that the doll can be used for good or evil
Although pop culture places a lot of emphasis on the evil aspect of voodoo dolls, actually voodoo dolls can be used to ask for grace or luck.
To commit a crime using a voodoo doll, you need nails and rope. Nails are used to inflict pain and string to tie or hang. If you are using a voodoo doll for good (everything has its own karma, after all), keep reading
Step 2. Find pins with colored pins
Pin colors represent areas in life that are affected by pins. For example, if you want to do someone a favor with a voodoo doll, yellow might help them succeed. Put the pin in the heart, which is associated with emotions, in the stomach, which is associated with guts, and the head, which is associated with thoughts.
- Yellow: Success
- White: Healing
- Red: Strength
- Purple: Spirituality
- Green: Money
- Blue: Love
- Black: Removes/attracts negative energy
Step 3. "Annoy" your voodoo doll
If you haven't used the doll for a while, you can "reactivate" it by disturbing it - that is, sewing small trinkets into the fabric, embellishing it, or adding stitches and ties.
Of course, your voodoo doll can't be active all the time. If you lock it in a drawer for years, then what do you do? In order for the spirits to understand your business, you have to play with the doll. Just like any other relationship, your relationship with the doll must be nurtured
Step 4. Use a doll with candles and a message
Light a candle in the color you want (same as a pin). Turn it on and write your wish on a piece of paper underneath. Hold the doll, focus on your desires.
Once you have had enough, place the voodoo doll next to the candle and wait for it to burn. After the nine days have passed, burn the paper and sprinkle the ashes
Step 5. Create an altar for your voodoo doll
He needs a home too! Since next to your bed may not be the optimal place, create an altar for the doll, where you can concentrate if you need to. If you have a certain desire, you can put it on the altar and use it to focus your energy.
Your altar doesn't have to be big. Room for dolls, a few candles and a few small decorative items will suffice. If your voodoo doll is someone's doll, that person's items (from nail clippers to lip balm) should be placed here too
Step 6. Create a toolbox
You can give this as part of a whimsical gift or keep it to yourself. Place the doll in a box with a lighter, some colored pins, and a few small pieces of paper. Talk about memorable birthday gifts.
Make sure whoever you give the gift understands this gift! Some people take voodoo too seriously, while others laugh at it and consider it old fashioned. If you're in doubt, keep it to yourself and tell them you're going to spend days wishing them luck -- and you've got the stuff to prove it
Tips
- Most voodoo sects emphasize that everything you do with the doll will come back to you. Imagine if you were tying the ropes to yourself and others. Whatever happens to them will affect you.
- If there is text or graphics on the image (such as the person's clothes) remember to flip the image horizontally before you print it so it will look natural later when applied to the doll. Alternatively, you can cut a heart shape out of red cloth to cover that part of the doll.
Warning
- Voodoo is a sacred spiritual path; respect the roots of this art you practice.
- Don't do this kind of thing in front of people you don't trust or know very well – this activity is widely ridiculed in many places.
- Spanish moss is often infested with red beetles and other small parasites. Observe carefully before holding it.
