The human mind is rarely in a state of calm. Questions, ideas, and plans always pop up without us knowing it and sometimes without a purpose. The abundance of things on our minds can be a good thing, but it can also disturb our calm or cause anxiety in us. By knowing how to clear your mind, you can overcome anxiety, depression, and even difficulty sleeping. By learning some of the tried-and-true tips and techniques below, you can better identify ways to clear your head.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Clearing Your Mind
Step 1. Express what you think in writing
If your mind is full of jumbled and muddled thoughts, it can be helpful to write them down. You are free to write whatever you think: write down how you feel, why you feel it, and what you want to do about it. Once you have recorded this information, you should have something tangible for you to ponder; this way you can sense a solution, even if you haven't "done" anything.
This is a very interesting tip to allow you to completely get rid of the thoughts that are bothering you. Write down all your problems on a piece of paper, and discuss why they bother you. After that tear the paper and throw it away. Right, just throw it away! The researchers found that people who threw out the problems they had written down were less likely to feel anxious about these problems
Step 2. Express what you think in the form of a painting
You may not be as great as the famous painter Van Gogh, but you don't have to be a master of art either. You only need tools for painting and a sheet of paper. Have fun coloring a rainbow with crayons; try painting with oil paints; or just shading with a black pencil. Letting go of your anxiety and clearing your mind by painting can be a very empowering source of strength for you.
Step 3. Have a discussion with someone
Maybe you are a person who is used to keeping every thought and emotion in your heart to yourself. Of course this is not a bad thing, but it can make small problems pile up like snowballs that roll into very big ones overnight. So that you can free your mind of the anxiety you're feeling - anxiety about love, stress about health, uncertainty about your job - try talking about it with someone.
- Meet friends and family first. Your friends and family are people who love and understand you. They don't need explanations, and they won't give you advice that sounds sweet to you. Tell them what is going on and listen to their advice.
- If your friends and family aren't ready to help, consider seeing a therapist. A therapist is trained to listen to your problems and provide solutions based on scientific research and invaluable experience. Do not feel inferior to seek advice from a therapist.
- Have a deep conversation with someone. It's easier said than done, but very rewarding. Researchers have discovered that having deep conversations where you don't have to pretend and can tell surprising or very personal things can actually make a person feel happier.
Step 4. Go for a walk with the pet
While there isn't any scientific evidence that owning a pet can help you clear your head, there is plenty of evidence that deserves attention. Owning a pet can lower your risk of developing depression; lowering high blood pressure; increase the hormones serotonin and dopamine; and reduce the risk of having to see a doctor if you are over 65 years of age. If you were happier and healthier, wouldn't it be easier for you to let go of the things that bother you and accept what you truly have in your life?
Step 5. Remind yourself of the things that really matter in life
At times, our minds become full of thoughts that, on reflection, are not so important. Maybe you lost your job, or your lover just broke up with you. Even though this is important to you, it doesn't mean that the world is over. Train your brain to remember all the really important things you have in your life:
- Friends and family
- Health and safety
- Food and shelter
- Opportunity and freedom
Method 2 of 3: Clearing the Mind through Meditation
Step 1. Try walking meditation
Walking meditation is exactly what you hear it sound like: it is meditation that utilizes the openness and beauty of nature to bring positive thoughts that bring peace to the brain. Be like Henry David Thoreau, walk through nature, go on new adventures and design the life you want. Or imagine that you are Carl Linnaeus, a scientist from Sweden, who makes a grouping of various types of plants and animals. Getting out of the house and enjoying the warmth of the sun can do wonders in your life.
Step 2. Focus your vision
This is a meditation technique that can help to clear your mind by eliminating your awareness of time. You can do this by following these guidelines:
- Keep your eyes on one point within a certain distance. It's best if you use a stationary object that is 3 meters away from where you are; it can be difficult to stay focused on objects that are too far away for long enough. It could be a wall, a flower vase, a small speck on the floor - as long as it doesn't move.
- Dim your conscious mind and continue to focus on the object you are looking at. All your brain power is being channeled into a task. Keep your attention on this object, even if your eyes start to wander and your mind starts to wander all over the place.
- After reaching a certain point, time will start to slow down. You have entered into a meditative state. Your concentration will no longer shift. You no longer feel anxious about the things that once made you anxious because your concentration is 100% used to keep your eyes on this object. Once you are ready, rest your mind. Your mind will feel a bit tired, as if it had just finished undergoing mental exercise. You will definitely feel better.
Step 3. Try doing breathing exercises
Breathing is a very important part of meditation, which is also a very important part of clearing your mind. By mastering several different breathing techniques, you can have the clarity of an open mind that comes to you with certain abilities. Master these fast breathing techniques - full breathing - so you can master these techniques for better meditation:
- Stand up straight, then exhale completely.
- Relax your abdominal muscles as you begin to inhale. Focus on filling your stomach with air.
- Once your stomach is completely filled with air, continue to inhale so that your chest and ribs expand.
- Hold your breath for a moment, fighting the urge to exhale.
- Exhale slowly - as slowly as possible. Feel the air escaping through your lips.
- Relax your chest and ribs, pulling in your stomach to let out any remaining air.
- Close your eyes, concentrate on normal breathing, and clear your mind.
- Repeat these steps for 5 to 30 minutes.
Step 4. Try different meditation techniques
There are many ways to do this, and you can choose the meditation method that works for you. Learn different ways of meditation, from mantra meditation to zen meditation.
Step 5. Once you start to be able to meditate, deepen your skills to meditate
If you experience a crash while doing basic meditation, learn how to increase achievement from your efforts. There are several ways to do this:
- Relax your whole body. Make sure that your body doesn't tense up unnoticed the next time you enter into an inactive state of mind. Activate your body by tightening the muscles throughout your body, then relax again. Repeat this exercise several times until your whole body feels relaxed.
- Try to stay completely motionless while you meditate. It will be difficult to achieve enlightenment by not activating the mind if your body is constantly in motion, sending sensations to the brain and asking for a response from your brain. Try to be completely silent.
- Let your breath flow naturally. After you have finished doing the breathing exercises in preparation for meditation, release your consciousness from this breathing exercise. Let the breath flow as it wishes. Direct your awareness to focus on the points farthest from your body, and by doing this, you eliminate awareness of your body.
Method 3 of 3: Take Productive Ways to Distract
Step 1. Do a game sport or play a game
Sometimes, clearing your mind can mean distracting yourself from the negative thoughts that creep into your consciousness. Nothing can distract you more than playing a game that makes you lose track of time or creating a game to get out of your routine.
- Do physical exercise through playing sports so that it can make you feel healthier and free your mind from the things that have been bothering you. And most importantly, doing physical activity is the right way to cure physiological ailments and relieve psychological disorders.
- Play games as a distraction when you carry out routine activities. Do you have to clean up your room? You can play the game by throwing your dirty clothes into the basket. You have to go for an errand? Challenge yourself to be frugal by using half of what you normally spend.
Step 2. Challenge yourself to do a never ending task
Some say idle hands are where the devil works, so the best way to keep your mind clear is to keep your hands busy. It means your hand in a figurative sense. And the most appropriate way is to challenge yourself to accept this task. There are several things you can do to keep yourself busy:
- Take a photo of yourself every day for a year. You might immediately imagine a video montage at this point - pictures that appear in sequence to musical accompaniment, chronicling the sequence of events in a human's life. This is a very good idea, and anyone can try it. But you need patience and perseverance to do it every day for a year.
- Do what scares you - every day. This is the famous advice of Eleanor Roosevelt, which had a profound effect on many people. Maybe you are afraid of having to interact with other people. (Many people experience this kind of fear.) Go and meet the person you don't know who is walking in your direction and start a conversation with him. Eventually you begin to conquer your fears, and realize that your mind can be free from problems too.
Tips
- By relaxing your muscles/body, you can increase the clarity of your thoughts and make it easier for you to fall asleep!
- Thinking too much can cause headaches. Like a light bulb attached to a nuclear power plant. Clear your mind.
- Don't worry about how long it will take for you to clear your head. This process will be interrupted if you pay too much attention to the time.
- Have a strong will and use your will to direct your thoughts.
- Do running. Running will relax your body and mind. Listen to music while you run.
- Try to forgive and love yourself and everyone around you.
