This wikiHow teaches you how to remove the McAfee Total Protection program from a Mac or Windows computer.
Step
Method 1 of 2: On Windows
Step 1. Go to Start
Click the Windows logo in the lower left corner.
Step 2. Open Settings
Click the gear icon in the lower left of the Start window.
Step 3. Click on Apps located in the Settings window
A list of currently installed applications will be displayed.
If the list of currently installed apps does not appear, check that you are in the right tab by clicking Apps & features located at the top left of the window.
Step 4. Scroll down the screen to the McAfee option
Look for the " McAfee® Total Protection " heading in the "M" section of the menu.
Step 5. Click McAfee® Total Protection
The heading will be expanded.
Step 6. Click Uninstall
This option is under the " McAfee® Total Protection " heading.
Step 7. Click Uninstall when prompted
This option is above options Uninstall The first.
Step 8. Click Yes when prompted
A wizard for removing McAfee will appear.
Step 9. Complete the command to remove the program
Once the wizard to remove McAfee is opened, do the following to complete the removal:
- Check the box " McAfee® Total Protection ".
- Check the box "Remove all files for this program".
- Click button Uninstall blue.
- Click Uninstall again when prompted.
Step 10. Click Restart now
If McAfee has been removed, you will need to restart the computer to complete the removal process. After that, McAffe will be completely removed from the computer.
You can click Restart later to restart the computer later manually. However, keep in mind that the deletion process is not fully completed if you do not restart the computer.
Step 11. Re-enable Windows Defender if needed
Windows Defender (Windows built-in antivirus protection) is still off if you haven't restarted your computer. Although the program will eventually start on its own, you can speed up the process by doing the following:
- open Start
- Type windows defender
- Click Windows Defender Security Center
- If possible, click Turn on. If there is a green check mark (not a red X) next to a different security icon on the dashboard, it means that Windows Defender has been activated.
Method 2 of 2: On Mac
Step 1. Open Spotlight
Do this by clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the top right corner. A search field will open in the center of the screen.
Step 2. Look for Terminal
Type terminal into the search field in the middle of the screen.
Step 3. Run Terminal
If it is already displayed, double click Terminal in search results. The Terminal window will be displayed.
Step 4. Type in the command to remove the program
Type sudo /Library/McAfee/cma/scripts/uninstall.sh, then press Return.
Step 5. Enter the administrator password when prompted
If a line that says " Password " appears, type the password you use to log into the administrator account on your Mac, then press Return.
Step 6. Follow the instructions given on the screen
While this uninstall command will prompt McAfee to remove the program automatically, you may need to confirm the decision by following the prompts given in the pop-up window.
Step 7. Restart the computer
After McAfee has been successfully uninstalled, you will need to restart the computer to complete the removal process:

- Click Shutdown…
- Click Shut Down when requested.
