A website without visitors is like dry land for fish. There is no point! Now that you've created a website, how will anyone other than your friends and family find out? Of course, they can google it! But before people can do that, your site must first be recognized-or indexed-in order to appear in search results. We'll teach you how to make it happen.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Checking Status
Step 1. Check your index status
By doing a few simple searches, you can quickly determine if your site is indexed or not.
Perhaps the first thing that pops into your mind is "Search on Google," but there are actually two main search engines: Google and Bing. Keep in mind that Bing is made up of Bing, MSN, and Yahoo
Step 2. Go to Google.com and search for your LSS (URL)
If it doesn't appear, it means that your site is not indexed.
Step 3. Repeat the above method with Bing
There is a possibility in the other search engine, your site is already indexed.
Unlike URLs, searching for site content can lead you to misunderstand. For example, if you have a site about juggling, and you searched "juggling" and didn't find your site in the first few pages, you might think your site isn't indexed yet. But keep in mind that the word "juggling" returns 7 million search results, and it's possible that your site is already indexed, just not in the top 50 search results. Or even the top 5 000 search results
Method 2 of 2: Getting Your Site Indexed
Step 1. Connect your site
Search engines use “spiders” to browse the web (network) through existing links and look for new ones. There are several ways to get spiders to link their webs to your site.
- If you have an indexed blog or website, put a link to your new site there, and don't hide it. Make your links look big and clear. Make sure others see it, click on it, and visit your site.
- Ask someone whose website is already indexed to post a link to your website. This method is as easy as placing references or product advertisements. The more people linking to your website, the better, so don't be shy about promoting.
- Register your site with popular social bookmarking sites like Digg and Stumbleupon.
- Register your site with the Open Directory Project (ODP). (See the blue text in the Open Directory Project? This is a link back to dmoz.org, the ODP site). ODP is a multilingual open content directory of links reviewed and maintained by volunteer editors.
- Insert a link to your new site on your Facebook page or Twitter profile. Instead, put a link on every site you can. This method will not only ensure that your site is indexed quickly, but will also help increase your search rank, through Search Engine Optimization.
