Someone has to break the ice in class, so why don't you just do that? If you have a natural ability to tell humor, you can be the funniest person in the whole school. By practicing a variety of side-aching and comedic moments, you'll be able to make your friends laugh so hard they forget school boredom. Check out Step 1 below to learn how to make people laugh out loud.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Knowing How Humor Works
Step 1. Know your audience
To be the funniest person in school, you have to know the things that make your classmates laugh! Listen to them and notice the things that make them laugh. Do they laugh when you joke about your teacher? Do they laugh when you make jokes about yourself? Or do they prefer the jokes that are similar to popular television shows, comedians, and all-culture?
- Even within your group of friends, everyone will have a different sense of humor. Try to take note of the tastes of each of your close friends. Are the results of each of your friends different?
- Also know how to deal with your teacher. If you are assigned to write variations of famous speeches such as Hamlet's "to be or not to be" and you come to the front of the class you perform the lyrics "Should I stay or Should I Go?" from The Clash, some teachers will find this funny. What about the other teachers? Not necessarily.
Step 2. Know some ground rules for humor
In reality, all humans are the same. There are some basic humors that always work:
- Pain. Even if you've only seen one cartoon, you'll know this concept. Think Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner. Garfield. Bugs Bunny. Mickey Mouse. All of these cartoons use humor that tells the story of pain. This concept is timeless.
- The unexpected. This is when something unexpected turns out to be something surprising, scary, funny, or inviting a response. So take your normal surroundings and make something funny. Is it cloudy outside? Wear sunglasses. No one laughs at your jokes? Laugh yourself. Trying to hide? Hide behind small plants. Do something silly, as silly as possible.
- Word game. This will be explained more on the next page, however, twisting words can be an excellent way to make people laugh. Studying about World War 2 in history class? Don't you wish you were there (Don't Jewish [you wish] you were there?)
Step 3. Be careful with the timing
Time is of the essence for many types of jokes. You will feel it for yourself, so there is no need to explain in words for this. Just be careful with your timing – the next time someone is joking, think about whether the timing affects how funny your joke is.
Think about silence. Use the phrase, "Who wants the last remaining mozzarella biscuit?" This sentence is not funny, but when you and your friends are sitting in the cafeteria and no one is talking at all and the situation becomes awkward (krik, krik, krik), then suddenly you are talking seriously with a sharp gaze and said, "So…who wants the last remaining mozzarella biscuit?" while moving your hand across the table, and you end up eating the biscuit yourself
Step 4. Try to make fun of your friends – with caution of course
We've already talked about making fun of yourself – now it's time to make fun of your friends! However, do this in a nice way; You have to stay friends with them after you make fun of them! Find something you can make fun of – something your friends can laugh at too – and make the rest of your friends laugh. Maybe they will be able to repay him!
- For example, when your tall, skinny friend walks into the room, ignore it for a while and then say “Oh, I'm sorry! I thought you were a power pole." He certainly knows that you don't really think of him as a power pole. This is clearly a joke, so your friend shouldn't be upset.
- Some people don't like being made a joke. If you have friends like this, avoid making them the butt of jokes. Make jokes only with people you know are not easily offended.
Step 5. Engage physical humor
Slapstick comedy has been around for a long time, but it can still make us laugh. You can do anything, like pull up your friend's chair or you fall out of your own chair because someone said something stupid that you didn't think was funny. You don't have to just use words to be funny!
-
If you've ever heard of someone by the name of Lucille Ball (one of the most famous comedians of all time) or the show “I Love Lucy”, you may remember that the most famous of these shows was when he learned how to step on grapes, when he smeared chocolate on his face, and when he drank the juice of the flesh. Timeless comedy involves the physical.
You don't know who that person is? But you certainly know who Mr. Bean or Charlie Chaplin! They have a lot of comedy without words, dedication to the art of physical humor
Step 6. Play with words
Playing with words can be a bad thing, but if you can do it well, everyone will laugh.

Part 2 of 3: Developing Your Skills
Step 1. Develop your reputation
When other people think of you as a funny person, it becomes easy to come up with a joke. Other people will laugh at whatever you say – and you will believe that you can do it. So start practicing, start joking wherever you are. Make sure you become someone everyone finds funny.
The only way to do this is to come up with a light but funny joke. So even if you're about to take a tough exam or you're going through a bleak situation, still be the person who is ready to make a joke to lighten the mood
Step 2. Develop your persona
It's great to be able to joke verbally and physically, but your appearance will also help. Wear weird clothes to match the weirdness of your jokes! Can you wear single eye glasses? Or maybe superman wings? Or at the very least, a mismatched pair of socks?
Sometimes, your appearance will help your joke. Imagine if your boring aunt tried to make a joke. Would his jokes be any funnier if he used shoulder pads and a really bad hat?
Step 3. Listen to the best comedians
We're not asking you to steal their joke ideas, but it's better if you listen to other comedians to get a feel for the different styles of humor out there. And if you happen to repeat someone else's joke and it's unknown to your friends, don't admit it! Let them think it's your real joke.
Also, listen to jokes from other sources. This is important so that you don't get caught copying only the best comedians. Try listening to Tig Notaro, Pete Holmes, Jim Norton, or Nick Kroll. Also don't just use each of their jokes, but combine all their jokes and make your own
Step 4. Collect jokes
Having lots of jokes you can remember will keep you in the loop wherever you are. If there's an air conditioner that doesn't work in a room, you can say a joke you've saved. Listen to the comedians we just mentioned, watch comedy shows on television, and go online to collect your jokes.
Don't use one joke too often. You don't want other people to frown when you just say, “There are Javanese, Batak, and Papuans on the plane…”
Step 5. Don't take it too seriously
In the end, you need to relax to be able to joke. If you're too tense to know whether other people think you're funny or not, that will be the only thing other people will see – and your jokes will go unnoticed. Don't worry too much – if you think you're funny, eventually your friends will notice.
Be casual if they're not laughing. You'll be able to make them laugh next time with better jokes. You don't have to be able to joke all the time. Comedy is a process of trying and making mistakes. Some comedians hone the same jokes “for years”. Just relax
Part 3 of 3: Shaping Personality
Step 1. Be passionate
Even very funny jokes will feel flat if you pronounce them as if "you" don't believe the joke is funny. If you can make jokes with the right hand expressions and very funny facial expressions so that your own face represents your jokes, then your jokes will be even funnier. Whatever you say, say it with your whole body language.
Aziz Ansari has a good joke about dating women. None of the women liked him, so Aziz comforted himself by saying, “No problem. My friend named Brian likes me.” The sentence is not entirely funny! However, Aziz expressed it excitedly with sullen eyes, as if he was mocking but slightly widened like he was angry. It is the expression of his emotions that makes the joke funny
Step 2. Understand what's popular
The jokes you make yourself won't always work even if you roll on the floor. You need to have material that everyone understands. To make everyone in the room laugh, say something about what's popular. Make a joke of something that is going on in the world – that way, “everyone” will understand and laugh.
What are you and your friends looking at? What's your favorite television show? What's your favorite song? Who is your favorite artist? Cover all of these things in your jokes! Perform Gangnam Style moves to your teacher's chorus. Stick your tongue out like a cat when a Miley Cyrus song pops off your friend's iPod. Take sentences from your favorite television shows and those of your friends when the opportunity arises. Get ready for everything
Step 3. Be Sarcastic
One common form of humor is sarcasm. If sarcasm matches your personality, it can be your weapon. Sometimes it's crunchy, biting, a little weird, and a little fun when it comes to sarcasm at anyone or whatever the subject is talking about. As long as the other person understands that you're being sarcastic and not being serious, sarcasm can be funny!
- Sometimes you can say the opposite of what you mean. Think of sentences like “George Bush is the best president of all time” or “Wow! That's the best idea you'll ever have!” Or you can say something a little weird like “You like dogs? I also like dogs. Let's exchange recipes!"
- A lot of sarcasm is spoken in the tone of voice. If you say George Washington is the best president with a serious face, pretend to be offended, people won't know if you're joking or not. This method works too – just know when to finish pretending to let your friends understand that you're joking.
Step 4. Be Caring Be a consistently funny person (and you want to be funny all the time, not just every now and then, right?
) means that you have to stay alert and always ready for a joke. For example, a friend of yours walks into the room and sits down. Without hesitation, with a sneaky look down, pull your chair out, and say to your friends, "Has he seen us?" Be aware of your surroundings so you don't miss a chance!
Try to use ordinary everyday things as jokes. By starting to become a person who pays attention to your surroundings, you will be able to do that. For example, your girlfriend is showing her a photo from her vacation, and she says "Ugh, I look fat." You respond by saying, “That's okay; reportedly the camera does add weight as much as 5 kg. How many cameras did you use?” Just make sure your friends don't get mad
Step 5. Humiliate yourself
Forget insulting other people now. Sometimes, it's funnier to insult yourself. No one will be offended, and in addition to being a funny person, you will also be known as a down-to-earth person. This is certainly a situation in your favor.
You need an example? Your friend is called by your teacher and he doesn't know what to say. Then your friend says, “Umm… I guess… Umm. Maybe… Umm?” Then you pop by saying "Oh my gosh, you're like me when you're trying to seduce women." Instead of mocking your friend, you are insulting yourself
Tips
- Do it slowly. If you're shy and aren't used to being loud and funny, don't suddenly become a loud person. People will think that you are trying too hard to be funny.
- Laugh at yourself! Whether your joking is successful or not, keep laughing.
- Some people are born with the talent to be a comedian and some people have to train to be a comedian. Don't push yourself too hard or you will lose something else.
