Treatment options such as Proactive Solution can help relieve and reduce acne. This product works by removing dead skin cells and dirt that clog pores on the face, as well as reducing redness and swelling caused by acne. Knowing how to use Proactive to either treat or prevent acne may help clear up acne without irritating the skin.
Step
Part 1 of 4: Understanding Proactive
Step 1. Get to know Proactive
Proactive is a three-step acne treatment system:
- The first step is to clean and exfoliate your face. The active ingredient benzoyl peroxide (BPO) will open the clogged pores and kill bacteria.
- The second step is to target the pores to treat existing pimples and prevent them from recurring. In this step BPO is used to inhibit oil production in the pores and kill acne-causing bacteria.
- The third step is a moisturizing lotion to treat the skin while providing acne medication where it is most needed. The active ingredient, namely salicylic acid, will clean the pores by exfoliating dead skin cells. The result is reduced pore size and healthier skin.
Step 2. Know where to sell Proactive
Proactive is sold online via www.proactive.com, or in stores listed at https://www.proactiv.com/where-to-buy-proactiv. One month's supply of Proactive sells for around IDR 400,000.
Step 3. Know who is suitable to use Proactive
Proactive is formulated for men and women from teens to adults who have mild to moderate or hormone-induced acne. Proactive can also reduce redness and shine on the skin, as well as even out skin tone.
- The time it takes for the results to begin to be felt is 4-6 weeks.
- Some users of Proactive may experience sensitivity to benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid, the two active ingredients in it. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include itching, swelling, redness of the face or throat, hives, or difficulty breathing.
- If experiencing an allergic reaction, Proactive users should discontinue use immediately and seek medical attention immediately.
Part 2 of 4: Cleanse the Skin
Step 1. Keep hair away from face
If you have long hair, tie it up to keep it away while you wash your face.
Step 2. Wet your face with lukewarm water
This first step is important because rubbing facial cleanser onto dry skin can cause irritation.
Using hot water may dry out your skin. Warm water is the ideal temperature for cleansing your face without causing irritation
Step 3. Use your hands to apply the "Skin-Smoothing Exfoliator"
Do not use washcloths as they can irritate the skin. Rubbing the skin with an exfoliant can also irritate the skin.
- Use only a small amount of exfoliating agent, about the size of a coin is sufficient.
- Massage the exfoliating agent into your skin for 2-3 minutes.
Step 4. Wash your face with lukewarm water
Be sure to remove the entire "Skin-Smoothing Exfoliator" as the rest can dry out your skin.
Step 5. Dry your face by patting a soft towel
For best results, avoid using a rough towel, and don't rub it too vigorously. Treat freshly exfoliated skin gently.
Step 6. Use Proactive "Skin-Smoothing Exfoliator" twice a day
Use morning and night regularly. It's best not to use a facial cleanser more than twice a day because it can cause the skin to become dry and irritated.
Part 3 of 4: Using "Pore-Targeting Treatment"
Step 1. Wash your hands before applying the product to your skin
Try to reduce the transfer of bacteria from your hands to your face.
Step 2. Press the "Pore-Targeting Treatment" lotion two or more times
Make sure to apply enough product to the entire face.
Step 3. Rub the product with your fingers all over your face
This lotion contains benzoyl peroxide, a safe ingredient and is widely used to treat mild to moderate acne and blemishes on the skin. Use enough lotion all over your face without making it feel sticky.
Step 4. Let the face dry by itself
Do not remove the "Pore-Targeting Treatment" lotion from the face. Allow the lotion to dry completely before moving on to the third Proactive treatment.
Step 5. Apply the "Pore-Targeting Treatment" lotion twice a day
This lotion can be used right after the "Skin-Smoothing Exfoliator" every morning and evening.
Part 4 of 4: Using the "Complexion-Perfecting Hydrator"
Step 1. Pour a coin-sized "Complexion-Perfecting Hydrator"
You can use more if your skin is very dry.
Step 2. Use your hands to rub the product all over your face
The "Complexion-Perfecting Hydrator" product contains salicylic acid, a drug commonly used to prevent the growth of acne and blemishes on the skin. Salicylic acid is also combined with moisturizing ingredients to reduce redness and soothe irritation of the skin without making it feel sticky.
Step 3. Allow the "Complexion-Perfecting Hydrator" to dry on its own
Do not clean this product from the face.
Step 4. Use the "Complexion-Perfecting Hydrator" twice a day
This product can be used in conjunction with "Skin-Smoothing Exfoliator" and "Pore-Targeting Treatment" every morning and night.
Tips
- Don't pick your skin! This will only expand the pimple and prolong the recovery period.
- Consult a doctor before using Proactive if your skin is very sensitive, or if you have other skin problems.
- Use this treatment every day. Skipping its use can reduce its efficacy.
- The time it takes for the results to be felt is 4-6 weeks. Meanwhile, you should use Proactive Solution every day. In the case of severe acne, it may even take you 8 weeks to start feeling the results.
- You can also use another moisturizer after the lotion if your skin feels dry.
- Use pillows and a white washcloth, as benzoyl peroxide can discolour the fabric.
Warning
- Be sure to tie your hair before using the Proactive Solution to prevent the color from fading. Clean the hair on the face as soon as possible.
- AVOID product contact with eyes.
- Always do an allergy test before using any acne treatment product.
- See a doctor or dermatologist if your acne doesn't improve after 6-8 weeks or if you have cysts or deep sores from acne.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using Proactive.
