International calling somewhere is easy once you learn the basic process. To make calls to Switzerland from another country, you must enter the exit code for your country, followed by the access code to Switzerland. After that, the remaining numbers can be entered normally.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Part One: Basic Structure of a Phone Number
Step 1. Dial your country's exit code
An exit code is a set or series of numeric digits that allow you to make calls "out" of your country. In other words, the number lets the telephone operator know that the rest of the phone numbers are destined for overseas.
- For a general list of exit codes, see the "Calling from Specific Countries" section.
-
For example, the exit code for the United States is "011." If you live in the United States and want to make a call to Switzerland, you must start the call with "011" before entering the specific Swiss phone number.
Example: 011-xx-xx-xxx-xxxx
Step 2. Dial "41," the country code for Switzerland
Each country has its own code, and "41" is the code used to access Switzerland. The country code basically indicates to the international telephone operator which country the international call is intended for.
Example: 011-41-xx-xxx-xxxx
Step 3. Enter the correct area code when making landline calls
Area codes in Switzerland consist of two digits and are only valid for telephone numbers connected to landlines. Area codes differ according to geographic area, so you need to know the location of the area you are calling to find the exact area code.

Step 4. Use the cell phone carrier code correctly when making calls using a cell phone
If the phone number you are calling is connected to a cell phone and not a landline, you do not need to use an area code. Instead, you'll be using a cell phone carrier code. Cell phone carrier codes vary based on the service provider carrier.
-
Swiss mobile phone operator numbers, including:
- Sunrise (TDC Switzerland): 76
- Swisscom Used by Migros: 77
- Orange SA Orange: 78

- Note that one additional Swiss cell phone code, 74, is used with some cell phone service providers.

Step 5. Enter the rest of the phone numbers
The specific telephone number addressed to the person or company is entered after, and completes the number to be called. It's not part of the area code or cell phone code, a seven-digit Swiss phone number.
-
The overall structure for making calls to Switzerland can be summarized like this: CEC-41-AC-XXX-XXXX
