Perfectly baked round bread will be crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. You can bake any type of loaf, and you can do this with the help of an oven, flat pan, grill, or toaster.
Ingredients
For 1 serving
- 1 bun for a sandwich, or a hot dog bun
- 15 ml melted butter
Step
Method 1 of 5: Using the Oven
Step 1. Preheat the oven
Turn on the oven setting and preheat for about 5 minutes. (10 minutes for underheated oven)
- Meanwhile, take a small baking dish. If done correctly, the bread will not stick to the pan. So you don't need to coat the pan with aluminum foil or spray oil.
- Note that this method can also be used to bake burger buns, sandwiches, and hot dog buns.
Step 2. Brush the bread with melted butter
Cut the bread and brush with melted butter on both cut sides.
- You just need to spread butter on the cut parts; let the outside dry.
- When buttering, make sure you spread it evenly over the entire surface of the bread being sliced, including the edges. The edges of the bread are very prone to scorching if allowed to dry.
Step 3. Bake the bread for 30 to 60 seconds
Place the bread on the baking sheet with the cut side facing up. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake until the bread turns golden brown.
- The slices of bread will change color quickly. So, you have to be careful not to burn it.
- Since the heating element is at the top of the oven, the sliced bread should be facing up. You only need to bake the cut part. So, there is no need to turn it over during the baking process.
Step 4. Serve
Enjoy toast while it's warm and crispy.
Method 2 of 5: Using the Stove
Step 1. Heat a flat pan
Place the skillet on the stove over medium heat. Heat the skillet for 30 seconds.
- You can use any pan as long as it fits the slices of bread.
- Avoid the big fire. High heat can make the bread turn brown and burn quickly.
- This method can be used for burger buns, sandwiches, and hot dog buns.
Step 2. Grease the open part of the bread with melted butter
Open a slice of bread and brush with melted butter on both open surfaces.
- Spread the butter evenly, including the edges. Dry edges will burn quickly when exposed to heat.
- Remember that you don't need to butter the crust.
Step 3. Bake the bread for 10 to 20 seconds
Lay the bread so that the cut side is facing down. Bake, without moving it, until the surface of the sliced bread turns golden brown.
- Check the bread after about 10 seconds. If it still looks light, return it to the skillet and bake longer. Toast the bread slowly as the bread will burn quickly if not supervised.
- You only need to bake the cut parts, there is no need to turn them over during this process.
Step 4. Serve
Remove the bread from the pan and use it immediately to enjoy the best texture.
Method 3 of 5: Using the Grill
Step 1. Preheat the grill over direct heat
Preheat the grill as usual, leaving one side open for indirect fire.
- A charcoal or gas grill can both be used. An electric grill can also be an option.
- Since baking bread only takes a minute, it's best to use this method if you're using the grill for other purposes, such as making burgers or hot dogs. If you haven't prepared the grill area for indirect heat, wait until all of the food is cooked, then turn off one heat or push the charcoal to the other side. Wait a few minutes for the cleared area to cool before baking the bread on top.
- This method can be used for any type of bread: regular sandwiches, long buns, and hot dog buns.
Step 2. Grease the open part of the bread with melted butter
Open the slices of bread and brush the surface with melted butter.
- Coat the sliced bread thoroughly with butter, up to the edges. Dry edges will burn quickly.
- You don't need to spread butter on the crust.
Step 3. Bake the bread for 10 to 15 seconds
Place the bread directly on the grill so that the cut side is facing down. Carefully bake both halves until the cut surface turns golden brown.
- Make sure the bread is not exposed to direct fire. If the bread is exposed to direct fire, it will likely burn more easily.
- Check the state of the bread every 10 seconds. You can re-bake the bread if needed, but the bread tends to turn brown quickly. So you have to check it often so it doesn't burn.
- You don't need to turn the bread over as only the exposed part needs to be baked.
Step 4. Serve
Remove the bread from the grill and use it while it is hot and crispy.
Method 4 of 5: Using a Toaster Oven
Step 1. Preheat the toaster oven
Set the setting to “Broil” and turn the thermostat to 230 degrees Celsius.
- While the toaster also has a “Toast” setting, the “Broil” setting is more ideal for toasting bread. The “Toast” setting uses both top and bottom heating so that both sides of the bread will change color and make the bread drier and more crumbly. The “Broil” setting uses top heating so only one side will turn brown and crispy, while the other side will remain soft.
- This method can be used for burger buns, sandwiches, long buns, or hot dog buns.
Step 2. Grease both slices of bread with melted butter
Open the bread and grease the cut side with butter evenly.
- You don't need to grease the crust with butter.
- Make sure the entire surface of the sliced bread is buttered evenly, including the edges. The edges of the bread are the parts that burn the fastest if allowed to dry.
Step 3. Bake the bread for 1 to 2 minutes
Place the sliced bread on the toaster rack with the cut side up. Set the timer for 2 minutes, but keep an eye on the bread and remove it immediately when the cut is golden brown.
- Do not cover the baking rack with aluminum foil or place the bread on a baking sheet. Bread should be placed directly on the toaster rack.
- Watch the bread during baking. This process can be completed in less than 2 minutes, or longer. Check it often so the bread doesn't burn.
Step 4. Serve
Use the bread right away to enjoy the best textures and a great dining experience.
Method 5 of 5: Using a Toaster
Step 1. Cut the bread
Separate the bread slices into two parts.
- Remember that you don't need to butter your bread before putting it in the toaster.
- This method only works for burgers and sandwiches, and you'll need a toaster with a slot large enough to fit the buns. This method cannot be used for long buns or hot dog buns.
Step 2. Toast the bread over medium heat
Turn the toaster on to a medium heat setting. Insert the loaf of bread into the slot and press the lever down, then wait for the toaster to finish.
- It doesn't matter how you put the bread in. Unlike other methods, this process will bake both sides of the bread, resulting in a drier, crunchier loaf.
- Toaster strengths vary. So, pay attention to changes in the color of the bread from above so that the bread does not burn. If the bread starts to look too dark, pull the lever up to remove the bread more quickly.
Step 3. Serve
Use the bread while it is still hot and crispy.
Tips
- For a better taste, mix a little garlic powder into the melted butter before spreading it on the bread.
- For the perfect toast, put two layers of bread in one toaster slot. This will make the outside of the sandwich crispy, while keeping the inside soft.
