Anything that affects the human senses and satisfies them can be called something sensual. Tasting dark chocolate, smelling freshly baked cookies, or listening to the sound of birds singing are some examples of sensual experiences. Sometimes we are too busy or distracted with other things to be able to enjoy the physical sensations that our bodies feel all the time. With a little time and practice, you too can learn to let go of control of your body and let your five senses take over.

Step

Part 1 of 3: Improving the Sensitivity of the Five Senses

Step 1. Adopt the right mindset

Focus your mind on the goal you want to achieve, which is to increase the sensitivity of our five senses. Most of the reasons why each person has a different level of sensitivity is due to genetic factors. Apart from this, there are several other factors that can hinder and cause a person's level of sensitivity to decrease.

Some people find this very difficult to do, but one's ability to perceive can be improved by focusing one's mind on one sense organ (whether it be the ear, eye, tongue, nose, or skin) at a time

Step 2. Make yourself comfortable in your own body

Free yourself from everything that is preventing you from being more sensitive to the sensations your body is feeling.

Confidence cannot be built overnight. Boost your confidence day by day by reminding yourself to stay optimistic and think positive

Step 3. Close your eyes

Among the five senses that humans use throughout their life, the sense of sight is the most dominant sense. In addition, this sense is also responsible for 80% of the information received by the brain. Without it, humans will become more sensitive to stimuli that are captured by the other senses. Give the four senses a chance to make sense of what's going on around you.

Step 4. With your eyes closed, begin to focus on what you hear

Recognize every sound that enters your ear and estimate the distance it reaches. Separate each sound from the others, for example the sound of a bird singing with the sound of a motor engine. Then try to follow both at the same time.

  • Use headphones or headphones when listening to music. Test your hearing by pairing one piece of headphones each playing two different songs to your left and right ears. As in the previous step, try to follow both songs at the same time.
  • Play the songs you love on your smartphone or other music player. Ask why you like this song.

Step 5. Enjoy food with your eyes closed

The human senses of smell and taste are controlled by two different receptor organs, but both are interconnected and are responsible for sending information about taste to be processed and understood by the brain.

  • Close your eyes every time you put food in your mouth and take a bite. Chew your food slowly and focus your mind on its texture, smell, and taste.
  • Do things that give off a scent that you like and enjoy the scent. Bake a few cookies or light an aromatherapy candle.
  • Season your food with a variety of aromatic herbs and spices. Try to identify each spice that has been mixed in the food based on its taste.

Step 6. Touch various items

The skin is the largest organ that we have and serves to provide important information about what is around us, or more specifically, that is felt by the skin at any time, ranging from temperature, texture, pressure, vibration, etc. Find the types of activities that use the sense of touch a lot.

  • Play around with your favorite type of fabric. Run your fingers across the surface of the fabric and note the texture.
  • Cool down by taking a bath or shower under a hot shower.
  • Do reflexology.

Part 2 of 3: Pampering the Five Senses

Step 1. Live in the present

You will never have time to enjoy everything you feel if you are too busy moving and working. Take an extra 15 minutes of coffee in the morning before going to school or work.

Step 2. Use your favorite items

Maybe you've bought some of the things you like, but haven't had the chance to use or play them yet. Now is the time to listen to songs from your newly purchased sound system or relax while inhaling the smoke of aromatherapy candles! The more you get used to indulging your four senses, the more you'll be willing to set aside time to do things like this.

Step 3. Turn off or get rid of your phone

Its existence alone is disturbing enough. When you're typing a message or checking email, you're only focusing on your phone's screen, and eventually become insensitive to what's going on around you. The next time you find yourself looking at your phone, stop and start paying attention to things around you, such as the color of the eyes of the waiter at the bar you're at, or the texture of the surface of the chair you're sitting on. Listen to the sounds around you. If possible, capture everything around you with your five senses.

Step 4. Take a break

Let go of your thoughts and take time to please yourself and not think about your work or social life. Pamper your body with a massage or soak in the tub for a long time. Rub the scented lotion you like on your skin and cover your body with your favorite cloth, shirt, or blanket. Take care of your body by taking time during the day to rest and relax. These types of stress-relieving activities can make you more enjoy what you see, hear, smell, or feel.

Step 5. Explore the new area

Trying to do new things is a great way to activate your senses. Give yourself the opportunity to develop things that can increase the sensitivity of the five senses.

  • Listen to different types of music. Come to a concert. Visit an art gallery and imagine yourself as a potential buyer of the painting there. Ask yourself, even if this is just pretend – Which painting can I buy?
  • Spend time outdoors. Go to a city you've never been to before, or to a national park. You can also go camping for a few days. Choose activities that aim to satisfy your five senses while on vacation.
  • Visit a recently opened restaurant, sample a variety of wines, or head to your local fresh market. Buy some groceries to cook at home. Taste every food that enters your mouth. By truly enjoying the food you make and being grateful for it, you not only become more sensitive, but also please yourself.

Part 3 of 3: Creating a Sensual Relationship

Step 1. Have lots of physical contact with those closest to you

Remember, sensuality is not always related to sexual activity. Through physical contact, you can strengthen your relationship with your partner, friend, or child. Of the five senses we have, the sense of touch is the first to appear. This is also where our emotional needs are met.

  • Greet your friends with a hug or a hug. Having this kind of physical contact can build trust in each other and make your relationship with your friends last longer.
  • Touch your partner often. Kiss him for a while. Hold her hand as she walks together and stroke her fingers. Allow yourself to enjoy the resulting physical contact. You may be surprised at how fast your relationship has progressed.
  • Twist your child's hair with your fingers. Hug him every time you see him. Physical contact has been shown to increase a child's ability to develop.

Step 2. Make eye contact

When talking to someone, look at them and never take your eyes off them. Although it may seem simple, eye contact can evoke feelings of love and affection from the person you are talking to.

Whenever you meet or talk to someone, give them a warm, friendly look. Smile. You'll be surprised when you count how many people smile back

Step 3. Do things slowly

Sometimes, we move too fast and don't even think about "pause and smell the roses." Engaging in activities that satisfy your five senses is a good example of therapy to reduce stress. It also makes you pay more attention to things. happening around you, so that you become more sensitive.

  • Taking it slow doesn't mean you have to linger all the time. Use the time you have to focus on the things you see, not the things you don't see.
  • Close your eyes and enjoy the taste of your coffee or notice the new clothes your friends are wearing. Touch your partner's face from forehead to chin. Make yourself really enjoy the time you two are together without thinking of it as an obligation.

Warning

  • Make sure the room where you study or work has adequate lighting. A room with poor lighting (too bright/dark) can damage your vision.
  • When listening to a song with headphones, do not try to increase the volume more than 60%. Doing this can cause a person to permanently lose their hearing.
