Losing something is certainly very annoying and difficult, or makes us helpless, depending on what the item is. No matter what shape it is, your favorite purse or necklace, the right trick can help you find it in no time. You can trace the places you went to again to find where you lost them, but sometimes you may need to do a thorough search. The key is to stay calm so the quest doesn't get more difficult.
Step
Part 1 of 4: Tracking Back Places Visited
Step 1. Determine the last time you saw the item
Maybe this advice is obvious, but the first step is to imagine where you might have lost the item. While it doesn't have to be exactly at a point, your memory will probably be awakened and then realize where you left off.
Not sure where you last saw him? Make a list of the last places you saw the item
Step 2. Remember what you were thinking the last time you saw the item
It may seem a bit silly, but remembering what you thought and felt the last time the item was with you can sometimes help. Your memory will come back at that time. So, small details can help you find it.
Step 3. Go through all the locations you've been to since you lost the item
Go back to the points you came from since the item was last with you. If you're lucky, it just drops and you'll find it again once you get back to the place.
If you can't return, contact someone. For example, if the last time you held your phone was at a hotel, and then you came home, call the hotel and airport to ask if anyone found it
Part 2 of 4: Performing a Systematic Search
Step 1. Take it easy
Of course you will panic if you lose something important like your wallet or cell phone. However, you will find it difficult to find if you are stressed. Try to relax before looking to clear your mind.
Having trouble calming down? Take a deep breath
Step 2. Check the area the item should be in
Even if you don't remember where to put it, start looking where it should be. If you always put your keys in a receptacle near the door, that's where your first search is.
- If there are a few places you usually put them, search them all to make sure you don't miss anything.
- Look slowly and carefully. If you frantically search for an item, it will end up getting even more messy and it will be harder to find.
- Even if it seems obvious, don't forget to check your pockets and bags. Maybe you put it in there unknowingly.
Step 3. Expand the search area to a larger area
If the item is not in its usual place, now look for it in a larger area. Look a few inches from the starting point and see if it's there.
If still not found, expand the search area. Keep expanding the search area little by little until you find it
Step 4. Clean the area
Sometimes, expanding the search area still can't help. Unfortunately, there is only one final solution, which is to clean up. If your search space is a mess, it's probably lost under the pile. So, tidy up the room, the item you are looking for will probably show up on its own..
Part 3 of 4: Asking for Help Finding
Step 1. Ask friends, coworkers, and/or family
Sometimes, what you think is missing is actually just borrowed or moved by someone else. Ask people near you if they saw or know where the item is.
If you often lose things because friends, family, or coworkers always “borrow” them, don't hesitate to ask them questions before taking anything. That's the only way to track your goods
Step 2. Go to the information section of a public location
If you lose an item in a store, restaurant, or other public place, you could be lucky if someone finds it. Ask the information department if someone else returned your item there.
If your item is not there, leave contact information. That way, they can contact you if the item is found
Step 3. Paste the flyer
If you can't find the item and know it's missing in a certain area, make a pamphlet listing all the important details. Describe the item and provide contact information so the person who found it can contact you. Post pamphlets in the area and pray.
- Post flyers on power poles or bulletin boards in areas where people see them frequently.
- If you really want to find it, offer a reward to convince people to return it.
Part 4 of 4: Preventing Lost Items in the Future
Step 1. Be aware of what you do each day
You will likely lose things a lot if you don't think about what to do. Try to be aware of what you're doing on a daily basis so you don't get confused about losing your keys, wallet, or phone for trivial reasons.
Step 2. Clean up your home and work area
If your home or desk is always a mess, anything can get lost easily. Tidy up tables and other surfaces so that the things you need are easily visible.
For example, if you put your phone on an empty table that isn't covered with magazines and books, you'll always be able to see it
Step 3. Have a specific place for each item
The easiest way to avoid losing things is to provide a specific place to put them. Hang your keys on a door hanger, charge your phone on your bedside table, or keep your wallet in the same bag pocket so you always know where it is.
Save items specifically. Don't just hang the umbrella on whatever hanger is in the hallway, always hang it on the middle hanger
Tips
- If you've looked all over the place and still can't find it, look where it shouldn't be. You probably don't usually take your phone to the bathroom, but if it's not everywhere, just check to make sure.
- Always losing things? You can buy a small tracker the size of a coin to attach to your wallet, keys, or phone, and use a special app on your phone to track it whenever it's lost.
- If you lose something like your wallet, look for it where you usually keep your money. If you lose your phone, look for it where you use it the most.
