If you lose your iPod, you may still be out of luck. By enabling "Find My iPod", you can track your lost iPod. You can lock or wipe it remotely if you think your iPod has been stolen. If you can't activate the app, you'll need to retrace your steps and track it yourself.
Step
Part 1 of 2: With "Find My iPod"
Step 1. Understand the requirements
You can use Apple's locating service, "Find My iPod" on an iPod Touch 3rd Generation or later. You must also be running iOS 5 or later. The Find My iPod app will not work on iPod Shuffle, Nano, or Classic.
- The Find My iPod application must be activated before it can be used. When you update iOS 8, this app will appear immediately.
- To manually enable Find My iPod, open the Settings app, set up iCloud, sign in with your Apple ID, then press "Find My iPod". You must activate the Find My iPod app before the phone is lost.
- There are other apps that can track your lost iPod, but just like Find My iPod, all of these apps must be installed before losing your iPod.
Step 2. Open the "Find My iPhone" app on another computer or iOS device
You can track your lost iPod using the Find My iPhone website or the iOS app.
- Visit the icloud.com/#find page on any computer to access Find My iPod.
- Download and install the Find My iPod app on your or a friend's iOS device. If you're using a friend's iOS device, you can sign in to your account using your Apple ID as a guest. You can download apps for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
Step 3. Sign up with an Apple ID
You can try to log into your account with your Apple ID via the website or app. Make sure to log into the account with the same ID that was linked to the lost iPod.
Step 4. Wait for your iPod to appear
Your iPod Touch will appear on the map based on the location indicated by the Wi-Fi adapter. If the iPod isn't connected to an internet connection or is turned off, you won't be able to track it but you can still lock it.
Step 5. Choose your iPod
Click the "My Tools" menu and select it from the iPod list. If your iPod is online, the map will center on the current location. If the connection is turned off, the map will show the last location.
Step 6. Make the iPod play music
Click the "Music Player" option to make the iPod play music, even if the iPod is set to silent. This method will help you find the iPod if it is turned off.
Step 7. Enable "Lost Mode"
If your iPod is lost and you can't get it back, you can turn on "Lost Mode". This app will lock your device with a new password and free you from displaying messages on the screen. Lost Mode can be found on iOS 6 or later.
You can enable "Lost Mode" on an iPod that isn't turned off, and it will automatically enter Lock Mode when the iPod is connected to an internet network
Step 8. Erase your iPod if you think it has been lost or stolen
If you're sure you won't be using your iPod again, you can erase it remotely by clicking "Erase iPod." This step will erase all data from the iPod and lock it.
As with Lost Mode, you can turn on Erase iPod if your iPod is offline and it will automatically erase when it is turned on again
Part 2 of 2: Without "Find My iPod"
Step 1. Change the Apple ID password
If you think your iPod Touch may have been lost or stolen, and you don't have the Find My iPod app, you should change your Apple ID password immediately. This will protect the data in your iCloud and Apple Pay accounts.
You can change your Apple ID password at appleid.apple.com/
Step 2. Change any other important passwords
In addition to changing your Apple ID password, you'll need to change other passwords for services that are accessible from your iPod. These services include Facebook, Twitter, bank, e-mail, and other accounts that you have logged into with your iPod.
Step 3. Retrace your steps
Without turning on Find My iPod, there's no other way to track your iPod. To find a lost iPod without Find My iPod, you have to find it the old fashioned way.
Recall the place where you used it for the last time and try to find it there. Be sure to look for places where your iPod might fall, such as cracks between seat cushions or car seats
Step 4. Report the iPod has been stolen
If you believe your iPod has been stolen, you can contact your local police department to report your iPod stolen. You'll need to provide your iPod's serial number, which you can find on the box or on supportprofile.apple.com if you registered your iPod with your Apple ID.
