Step
Part 1 of 3: Learn Some Basic Moves
Step 1. Sway up and down to the beat of the music
If you're not sure what to do on the dance floor, you can simply sway up and down to the music. Bend your knees slightly and then straighten them back to the beat. This can be a small movement that makes you look like you're just moving to the music or it can be a more defined movement by providing more energy when you bend your knees. Try moving your body left and right so you don't look like a float in the water.
- A variation of this movement is swaying back and forth to the music. Make sure your feet are shoulder-width apart and your knees slightly bent. Instead of rocking up and down, rock back and forth. Try pausing for one tap as you sway sideways.
- Make sure your shoulders are not stiff. If you are too stiff, your movements will not look natural. Move your hands as you sway to the music.
- Feel the tempo of the music playing and start swaying to it. If you're not sure how to find the tempo, listen for drums and bass or the "dum-dum-dum" pattern in a song.
Step 2. Bend your arms and move them up and down
If you're just swaying to the song, try bending your arms about 45 degrees. Raise your arms to chest level and then move them up and down to the beat of the music. Don't be afraid to look stiff. Let your hand movements flow. Point your shoulders or hips with a fist. Raise one hand and keep the other hand low. Change the position of your hands while dancing; do not sway in the same position over and over again. Make moves that feel compatible with the music.
Step 3. Nod your head
When rocking and moving your hands, don't let your head stay still and stiff. Nod your head to the music. Move your head left and right as if looking around a room. Lower your head and look up. Do a combination of these head movements so that the movement looks flowing.
Step 4. Rotate your shoulders
Another dance movement is turning the shoulders to the rhythm. Keep your hands by your sides, then turn your right shoulder back. After that, turn your left shoulder back. Do this alternately while swaying to the music.
You can also raise your hand as you rotate your shoulder, then raise your other hand while lowering the hand that you raised earlier. Perform this movement smoothly as you dance
Step 5. Rotate your hips
Another basic club dance move is hip twisting. As you sway to the beat, move your hips. Shake your hips left and right or rotate your hips in a circle.
One way to move your hips is to write your name with your hips. Move your hips like making the letters in your name. Remember to match the movement to the beat of the music
Part 2 of 3: Learn Complicated Moves
Step 1. Perform 2-step
The easiest club dance moves are 2-step. Slide your right foot to the side, then move your left foot and place it with your right foot. Do the same on the other side. Feel the beat of the music and make moves to the rhythm.
- To avoid looking stiff, rock your body up and down. This allows your body to move more as you step left and right.
- Lean your body to the side. You can also lean forward or backward as you step right and left.
Step 2. Try a step back
A variation of the 2-step move is the step back motion. Start by stepping out to the side with your right foot. Pull your left foot back and tap the toes of your left foot with the heel of your right foot. Then, step on your left foot and tap the back with your right foot.
To avoid monotony, push your second foot forward and then tap your toes with the heel of the second foot
Step 3. Perform the clap step
The clap stroke is similar to the 2-step move, but in the clapping step you also use your hands. Swipe left and right and clap your hands as you walk. Try clapping to the beat of the music.
Once you get used to doing the clapping steps, you can add other movements. Try bending your knees lower or rocking your body with the movement
Step 4. Try step down
Start by opening your feet shoulder width apart. Tilt slightly so that the weight of your body is centered on your feet and your body is tilted to the side. When your body is tilted, stay still and keep your position. Lower your shoulders slightly after you stop so that your body is leaning. As you move down, snap your fingers on that side. Back straight, then tiptoe the other way and do the same step with the other hand.
Step 5. Use a circular motion
Raise your hands above your head and move them in a circle. You can also use your feet to rotate 90 degrees following one rotation of your hand. Rotate with your outside foot, so that your inside foot remains stationary as the center of your weight.
Each round is better followed by a 2-step move. In the first step you step with the outside foot, then you step with the inside foot in the second step. Your hands also follow the same tempo. On each beat of the music, move your hands to make a semicircle. Your hands are to one side in the first step, then in the second step your hands are in the original position
Part 3 of 3: Prepare
Step 1. Watch videos of club dance moves
Before leaving, look for dance videos in the club. Some videos only show people dancing to club music, but there are also videos that teach you how to master the moves. Watching these videos will give you an idea of the moves you can imitate.
Step 2. Record yourself dancing
If you're worried about how you look, record yourself dancing to club music to make sure your moves look good. Fix movements that look unnatural. Compare your videos with videos you find on the internet.
Notice if you are too stiff and less mobile and if your head is moving clumsily
Step 3. Go out with a group of friends
Dress up and go to the club with your friends. This will make you feel more relaxed and less awkward, so you can be more confident when dancing.
One of the worst things you can do in the club is to overthink your dance moves. Thinking too much will make you look stiff and clumsy. Be careful not to look like you're having a seizure on the dance floor
Step 4. Relax
When you arrive at the nightclub, pay attention to the people on the dance floor. See how they dance, what they look like, and what moves they make. They will most likely do the basic moves you would do. Don't stress and have fun.
