Gangnam Style, a song sung by a Korean pop singer named Psy, has achieved great success in two ways, namely the catchy song and the horsey dance that is the hallmark of the song. Follow the Gangnam style steps below to learn how to dance “Gangam Style” like Psy.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Footwork
Step 1. Prepare your position
Open your legs and bend your knees slightly. Spread your feet shoulder width apart and straighten your back.
Make sure your posture remains flexible. You will not be silent for a long time
Step 2. Learn the steps
Start with your right foot. Lift your right leg slightly and lower it again, ending with a slight backward jump.
- To perform a slight backward jump, let your right foot touch the ground first and then your left foot begins to bounce slightly upwards, kicking back a few inches instead of bouncing it again. To keep your balance, you have to jump a little. This movement is also part of the dance.
- Do this repeatedly starting with the right foot then the left foot and so on until you can easily follow the rhythm of the song.
Step 3. Learn the pattern
Once you are comfortable with the movement, you should practice with simple movement patterns. This dance consists of four foot movements that are repeated continuously
-
The pattern is as follows: feet right, foot left, foot right, foot left, etc.
Step on your right foot once, then your left foot once, then step on your right foot twice followed by your left foot once. then right leg once and left leg twice, repeat this movement
- You will find it difficult to do the last two kicks of each movement, because naturally this movement will make you support your body weight on your other leg. Do as PSY did and keep your legs flexible, not stiff when doing this leg movement. Don't knock back.
- Do this Ka, Ki, Ka, Ka, and Ki, Ka, Ki, Ki movement pattern until you do it to the beat.
Part 2 of 3: Upper Body Movement
Step 1. Learn moves like “holding the reins of a horse”
Do this hand movement by clenching your fists forward in line with your chest.
- Cross your right wrist over your left wrist. Cross your arms in the middle of your body position, not to the right or left of your body.
- Move your hands up and down flexibly, according to the beat of the song. This movement is repeated eight times.
Step 2. Learn the "trap" movement
Begin this hand movement by placing your left wrist near your chin, with your elbow pointing to your left and your hand flat.
- Raise your right hand until it is in line with your shoulder and your elbow is pointing right in line with your shoulder.
- Lift your arms straight up and make small circular motions with your hands to the beat of the song, like a cowboy holding a rope. This movement is repeated eight times.
Step 3. Learn the pattern
Fortunately this hand movement pattern is very easy. Start with a “hold the reins of the horse” movement. To make a regular beat, move your hands eight times. Then twist the rope and wave your right hand eight times.
Part 3 of 3: Merge All Moves
Step 1. Combine the movements of your hands and feet
Start with a "hold the reins" motion and move your left leg.
- Know the combined pattern of the movements. Each set contains eight hand movements and two sets of foot movements. However, when you start doing the steps described above, you'll be doing eight "horse pacing" movements while stamping your right foot then your left foot, right foot, right foot, then left foot, right foot, left foot, and left foot. etc. The movement of your hands and the stomping of your feet must match.
- Keep your head up. When you are riding a horse, you must see the road ahead. Do the same when you dance this dance.
- Soak up the dance. Don't dance stiffly or timidly. As long as the movements of your feet and hands match, the rest of your body will follow the rhythm by itself. Flex your body and enjoy the movement.
Step 2. Practice
Start the dance slowly until it reaches your natural tempo. “Gangnam Style” has a fast tempo, so practice slowly. Don't despair.
Step 3. Perform the movement
When you're ready, play the music and start dancing. Show this dance to your friends or teach it to others. Good luck!
