Have you ever encountered a misspelled or mis-formatted text in a PDF file? You can edit it, you know! The TouchUp Text feature in Adobe Acrobat will help you fix the error. Learn how to use this feature in the following article.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Editing Text with Acrobat XI Pro
Step 1. Open Adobe Acrobat
After that, open the file that you want to change or repair
Step 2. Open the Tools toolbar
- At the top of the document, click the Tools button. A toolbar will appear. Click Content Editing to open the column, then click Edit Text & Images.
- The editable text box will be marked.
Step 3. Edit the text
Select the text you want to edit as usual: click to insert the cursor, click and drag to select a character, double-click to select a word, or triple-click to select an entire text box
Step 4. Adjust the text box
In Acrobat XI, text now flows as it appears. If you add or remove a lot of text, you may need to adjust the text box to keep the text fit
Step 5. Select the text box by clicking on it
- A text box will appear with a blue box and blue controls in the corner and center of the box.
- To adjust the size of the text box, click on the blue controls, then drag the controls as needed. To adjust the position of the text box, place the cursor on a vertical or horizontal line. The cursor changes shape to a cross, and you can drag the text box anywhere.
- The green line on the screen is useful for keeping the layout of the text symmetrical with other text objects when editing. Holding down the Shift key changes the drag direction to either horizontal or vertical.
Step 6. Edit the font
Acrobat Xi also makes it easy for you to change character attributes. Select the letter, phrase or text box you want to edit, then change the properties to your liking on the panel
Step 7. Don't forget to save your work
Method 2 of 2: Editing Text with Acrobat 8 Pro and Older Versions

- You can change the font by clicking on the menu at the top of the dialog box and selecting a font of your choice.
- You can change the font size by clicking the Font Size box and entering the size you want.
- You can change the color of the letters by selecting the Fill box and entering a new color.
- You can also adjust spacing between characters, spacing between words, horizontal scale, line color (very useful for bolding letters, since there is no bolding option in the editor), stroke thickness, and offset size.
- You can also include a typeface to the document. However, most documents do not require this option.
Tips
- If the document is scanned and has not been saved in an editable PDF format, you cannot edit the document. However, you can comment text after running an OCR scan.
- TouchUp Text has been available since Adobe Acrobat 6, and has been part of Acrobat since that version (including Acrobat Standard, Pro, and Suite). However, TouchUp Text was removed from Acrobat Xi.
- TouchUp Text won't help you edit WordArt because WordArt is an image, not text. As a result, Adobe will not recognize WordArt as text.
