Although the materials are very difficult to find, the book is actually easy to make. Once you've gathered the materials, you can easily clear your own farm so you don't run out of paper and leather. Let's start now so that your library building plan can be implemented immediately.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Minecraft for Computer or Console
Step 1. Collect sugar cane
Sugarcane is a green reed that grows near water. In some worlds, sugar cane can be hard to find. But you will find it if you trace the coastline. You can retrieve the cane by breaking it with your bare hands or any tool.
Sugarcane cannot grow near frozen water. Look for warm biomes
Step 2. Start clearing farmland to grow sugarcane (recommended)
Since they are hard to find, set aside some cane stalks that will be used to make paper. You can grow sugarcane by planting it in the ground, but sugarcane can only grow tall under the following conditions:
- Sugarcane should be planted in silty soil, grass, sand, or podzol.
- There must be at least one water block adjacent to the sugarcane planting area.
- Note - to harvest it, wait for the cane to grow tall and break the block at the top. The sugar cane will continue to grow if you plant it on the bottom block.
Step 3. You need three sugarcane to make paper
Fill a row of crafting tables with sugarcane (three canes in total). This will produce three sheets of paper, which you can use to make one book.
Step 4. Do a hunt for skins
Usually cows are not too difficult to find, while horses only breed in pastures or savanna. Either the cow or horse killed will drop 0 to 2 skin units. For one book, you need one piece of leather.
- You can also make skins from four pieces of rabbit skin, or sometimes you can find them by fishing.
- If you want a continuous source of leather, grow wheat and use the stalks of the crop to lure cows into your farm. Offer a pair of cows more grain to breed when your stock of animals is running low.
Step 5. Make a book by combining leather and paper
Put leather in one square and paper in three, anywhere on the crafting table. This will result in one book.
Method 2 of 3: Minecraft Pocket Edition
Step 1. Check your game version number
The instructions in this article are for Minecraft Pocket Edition version 0.12.1 or later. If you are playing an older version, please be aware of the following changes:
- In versions prior to 0.12.1, you don't need skins to create books, but books are also useless in this game.
- There are no books in the game before version 0.3.0.
Step 2. Look for sugar cane
Sugarcane is a green reed that grows near water. If you've found some sugarcane, it's a good idea to plant them in the back of your bin so that your paper supply will never run out. Sugarcane can grow in sandy or muddy soil close to water.
If you don't have enough sugarcane to make the amount of paper you want, speed up its growth by adding bone meal
Step 3. Make a paper with three canes
Tap the crafting table and select Paper recipe in the Decorations menu. this will turn three canes into three papers.
Step 4. Kill the cow to get the skin
Each cow killed will drop 0, 1, or 2 pieces of leather. If you're running Pocket Edition version 0.11 or later, you can get skins by fishing, but this method is rarely used there.
Step 5. Combine the leather and paper to make a book
Books are another item in the Decorations section of the crafting table menu.
Method 3 of 3: Making Other Things with Books
Step 1. Make a bookshelf by combining books with wooden boards
To make a bookshelf, combine six boards (in the top and bottom rows) with three books (in the middle row). Many players create these blocks just for style, but bookshelves can also increase your enchantment.
Step 2. Make a spell table
You'll need four obsidian blocks (placed in all the bottom rows and in the middle squares), two diamonds (in the left and right squares in the middle), and one book (in the middle squares at the top). The spell table allows you to channel experience into special abilities for your equipment, weapons, and armor.
Turn the flowing water toward the lava to make obsidian. You need a diamond pickaxe to mine the obsidian
Step 3. Make a book and a quill
To make books and quills, place the book, ink bag, and feather anywhere on the crafting table. This can open an interface where you can type long messages.
- You can't get this recipe in Pocket Edition, or on some older versions of consoles.
- Kill chickens to get feathers. Kill the squid to get the ink bag.
Tips
- Books can simply appear in fortress chests as well as in village libraries and fortifications.
- You can spell books to save spells that you can use later. You can combine books and other objects using forging anvils to transfer spells. This is a great way to get an item from a mix of good spells.
