In Minecraft, a lever (aka lever) is a switch used in a redstone circuit, usually to turn a circuit on and off. Making and using levers is very easy (and levers can serve a part in very complex systems!). Follow step 1 below to see how to make and use levers.

Step 1. Gather the ingredients
To make a lever you need a cobblestone and a stick. Sticks are made of wood, so you have to get wood first. All of these ingredients are very common, so making them must be easy!
- Sticks are made by creating planks (place one piece of wood in the center of the crafting grid) and then placing two planks in the crafting window. One plank will be in the middle and another plank in the lower middle position.
- Cobblestone is very easy to find in mines and lava sources.
Step 2. Place the cobblestones on the crafting grid
Open the crafting table and place the cobblestone in the bottom center position.
Step 3. Place the sticks on the crafting grid
Next, place the stick in the center position.
Step 4. Pull the lever into the inventory
The lever should already appear in the finished item box. Take the lever by left or right click the lever and place it in your inventory.
Step 5. Place the lever
Right-click the selected lever in the inventory to place the lever. You should place the lever next to the redstone, as the lever is used to control the redstone current.
- The lever can be placed on the ground, wall, or ceiling. The lever cannot be placed on snow, ice, or glowstone.
- The direction of the lever affects the positions that are considered on and off. You should adjust the direction of the lever as needed.
Step 6. Use the lever
There are many uses for levers in Minecraft, all of which are limited by your imagination. As long as you can find a use for the lever function i.e. turning the redstone current on or off, then you can find the right lever to use.
- The lever provides stable power. The lever will remain active or inactive until you press it, unlike a button that can switch on its own. Therefore levers are useful when you want the switch to stay on, for example on a minecart track or for keys that you want to keep locked.
- Levers are usually used to control the lights in homes or other buildings. You can also use it to control the door remotely.
- The lever can be used in place of redstone for short circuits (perfect for replacing one redstone). Levers are also useful for controlling the strength of the current.
- It's important to remember that mobs cannot activate the lever unless you use a special mod that allows this.
