Latios is a legendary flying Pokémon that can be very difficult to find and catch. Not only could Latios appear randomly anywhere in the world, he would also run away from battle if the opportunity arose. However, you can catch Latios easily if you use the right Pokémon and certain items.
Step
Part 1 of 4: Making Latios Appear
Step 1. Defeat the Elite Four and complete the story
To access Latios, you must first complete the main game. Look for articles on WikiHow on how to beat the final boss.
Step 2. Return to the house
After defeating the Elite Four, return to your house in Littleroot Town and talk to your mother. A TV show will be broadcast, and your mother will ask questions about what comes up.
Step 3. Answer that the Pokémon on the TV is "Blue"
This is necessary so that Latios can be found in Hoenn. If you choose "Red", it will be Latias who will roam and you need an Eon Ticket to get Latios.
If you've selected " Red " but also want to get your hands on Latios too, look up the WikiHow article for that
Part 2 of 4: Preparing to Capture Latios
Step 1. Make preparations before starting the hunt
Latios can be a very difficult Pokémon to catch. He will try to run away when the opportunity arises, forcing you to hunt him back. Make sure you are prepared before starting the hunt. This will make it easier to catch Latios.
Step 2. Save the Master Ball
If you've never used Master Ball, now is the best time to use it in this game. The Master Ball will immediately catch Latios when used, so this is the most efficient way to catch him.
If you have Master Ball, you don't have to think about any other preparations and can skip to the next section. If not, read on
Step 3. Practice Genga or Crobat (Option 1)
Latios is a very fast Pokémon. In order to catch it without a Master Ball, you'll need a Pokémon with high enough speed that it can act first. Not only that, you'll also need a Pokémon that can learn the Mean Look skill. Gengar and Crobat are the two best candidates who fulfill these two requirements.
- Train Gengar or Crobat to at least Level 50. This will ensure that both have enough speed to defeat Latios
- When leveling up Gengar or Crobat, make sure you don't forget the Mean Look skill. Gengar learned it at Level 13, while Crobat learned it at Level 42.
- If you want to use the Super Repel trick to find Latios easier (see below), use Gengar and keep him at Level 39.
Step 4. Search for Wobbuffet (Option 2)
Another strategy for capturing Latios is to use Wobbuffet, which has the Shadow Tag ability. This ability will prevent enemy Pokémon from escaping.
- Train Wobbuffet to Level 39 to use the Super Repel trick (see below).
- Make sure that Wobbuffet is the first Pokémon on your team so he can trap Latios.
Step 5. Fill the rest of your team with powerful Pokémon
Once Latios is trapped, you'll need to lower his HP so you can catch him. The best way to do this without risking crippling Latios is to use a Pokémon with the False Swipe ability. This will lower the enemy Pokémon's health but without bringing its HP below 1. This will ensure you don't incapacitate Latios.
Using a Pokémon with the Paralyze ability will help trap Latios
Step 6. Get a certain amount of Ultra Balls
You'll probably throw a lot of Pokeballs at Latios, especially if you try to catch him before he escapes.
Step 7. Get the White Flute
This item will increase the encounter rate thus helping you find Latios faster. You can get the White Flute from the Glass Workshop on Route 113. You have to walk 1000 steps in Soot to get it.
Once you have the White Flute, give it to the Pokémon that is the head of your team
Step 8. Get some Super Repels (optional)
This trick makes it easier to find Latios, but the lead Pokémon must be Level 39. Super Repel prevents a Pokémon with a lower level than the leader Pokémon from attacking you. Since Latios's Level is 40, you'll need a Level 39 lead Pokémon.
Part 3 of 4: Finding and Catching Latios
Step 1. Trade Latios with friends, then trade back (if possible)
Before you try to hunt down Latios, trade them with your friends if possible. When Latios is added to your Pokedex you will be able to see its current location making it much easier to track it down. If no one can trade with you, read on.
Have a friend trade your Latios with you, then trade it back right away. You only need to receive it in a trade for it to appear in your Pokedex
Step 2. Fly to the Safari Zone
This is a good location for hunting Latios, as you can quickly switch areas to change its location.
Note: If you are trading with friends, use the location in your Pokedex to find Latios
Step 3. Use Super Repel (optional) and walk around the grass outside the Safari Zone
If you use the Super Repel trick, use this trick before starting to walk around. Otherwise, walk around until the fight begins.
Step 4. Keep walking on the grass until you get to some fights
If Latios still doesn't show up, you'll need to change its location.
Step 5. Enter and exit the Safari Zone to change the Latios location
If you don't find Latios, enter and exit the Safari Zone. Each time you change the region, Latios will move to a new route. Your goal in changing the region is for Latios to appear in the grass outside the Safari Zone.
If you've traded and tracked Latios with Pokedex, don't leave a route that includes Latios, until you find it
Step 6. Capture Latios
Once you've finally started the fight, you'll need to trap and capture Latios.
- If you have a Master Ball, throw it away immediately to catch Latios.
- Make sure to use your trap abilities (Shadow Tag, Mean Look) as soon as the fight starts.
- If you have a Wobbuffet, the Mirror Coat will be very useful because Latios uses a lot of special moves.
- Use Paralyze to prevent Latios from escaping.
- Use False Swipe to lower Latios' HP to 1.
- Start throwing Ultra Bars when Latios' health is low.
Step 7. Chase Latios if he runs away
Latios will try to escape, but once you encounter him, you can see his current location in your Pokedex. Visit new locations and don't leave until you find them again.
Part 4 of 4: Getting Latios if Latias Wanders
Step 1. Trade Latios If you accidentally release a Latias by answering " Red " when talking to your mother
The only legitimate way to find Latios is to trade them. You can use Gameshark code if you're on an emulator and don't have anyone to trade with you (see next step).
Step 2. Use Gameshark to get an Eon Ticket
An Eon Ticket is a special event item that is handed out to players. With this item, players can access a special island to be able to capture Latios or Latias, depending on which one is released. Since this ticket is no longer available, you will have to use a cheat code to get it. To use Gameshark code, you must use an emulator such as Visual Boy Advance.
Although a code is available to get Latios right away, it is recommended that you use a ticket. Pokémon added using codes are generally flawed, so use a ticket instead and catch Latios the way the game wants it
Step 3. Enter the code for the Eon Ticket
To successfully use Eon Ticket, you must enter the code for the ticket and event. You'll also need to enter two Master codes, for a total of four codes to enter.
- Make sure Pokémon Emerald is running. Click the Cheats menu.
- Select Cheat list…, then click the Gameshark… button to enter a new cheat code.
- Enter the following codes. Make each code in a separate box. Enter "Description" into the Descrption field, then copy the code into the Code field.
Description: Master

Description: Eon Ticket

Description: Southern Island
0D6A02AA B44948BD
Step 4. Download Eon Ticket from your PC
After entering all the codes, restart Pokémon Emerald, then head over to your PC in the game. You will be able to find the Eon Ticket in "Slot 1". Pull it from the PC and add it to your inventory.
Step 5. Alright ship from Lilycove City Harbor
If you hold a ticket, you will be taken to Southern Island instead of Slateport City.
Step 6. Fight with Latios
Once you're on Southern Island, you can fight Latios using the ball in the center of the island. Latios won't be trying to escape this fight, so use the techniques outlined above to catch him.
