Latios is a great legendary Pokemon, but can be very hard to catch! Although finding it depends on luck, it's actually not that difficult. The trick is in how to catch it! With a little preparation, you can catch them easily. Get started with the first step below to find out how.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Using the Master Ball
Step 1. Defeat the Elite Four
Latios will not appear until this is resolved.
Step 2. Once the display indicating the end of the game disappears and you're in the house at Little Root, head downstairs and watch television when you get the chance
There will be information that there are flying blue Pokemon roaming around the Hoenn area. This Pokemon is Latios.
Step 3. Prepare the Master Ball
It's best to save the Master Ball you have to catch Latios, as Latios tends to run away. If you don't have a Master Ball, then you should take a look at the next section of this article. You can scroll down the page or use the table of contents at the top.
Step 4. Travel to a suitable area
Latios is a wandering Pokemon and can be found almost everywhere. To make Latios easier to catch, we recommend going to an area where you can easily reload (load saved game data), such as in front of a cave near an open area by using secret powers.
Step 5. Look for Latios
Walk through bushes or other neighborhoods until you find Latios. Don't waste time fighting other Pokemon, run away from the fight if you meet other Pokemon. If you haven't found Latios in an area after walking for five minutes, exit the area and re-enter.
Step 6. Throw the Master Ball
When you finally find it, throw the Master Ball right away. Safe! You have caught Latios!
Method 2 of 2: Without Using a Master Ball
Step 1. Prepare the Pokemon
You'll need a level 40 Pokemon to take on Latios. Get a Trapinch, Wobbuffet, or other high-level Pokemon that has the Mean Look ability (like Zubat or Golbat from Victory Road). Give Quick Claw ability to Pokemon that have Mean Look ability and buy some Carbos (to make sure that Pokemon has high speed). Place this Pokemon at the top of the group formation.
Wobbuffet and Trapinch are useful because Wobbuffet's Shadow Tag ability and Trapinch's Arena Trap ability will prevent Latios from escaping
Step 2. Buy Ultra Balls in bulk
This thing will be your best choice to catch Latios. It is not recommended to use regular Pokeballs.
Step 3. Use your skills
If you've chosen Trapinch or Wobbuffet, reduce Latios' resistance little by little and throw Ultra Balls more often. Otherwise, use the Mean Look ability right at the start of the fight. If you knock Latios unconscious, repeat the game. If Latios escapes, you can now track him down using the Pokedex, in the same way you did to track down the legendary dogs in Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal.
Tips
- If you're looking for Latias in Pokemon Sapphire, you can also find the article on wikiHow.
- Using a fast Pokemon with the Mean Look ability is better than using a Pokemon with the Arena Trap ability. After using the Mean Look ability, you can swap Pokemon for False Swipe.
- Don't despair if you can't find it quickly. Keep in mind that this quest can take some time, and you may not be lucky.
- Sometimes, flying in search of Latios will scare him and every time you fly into a town near his location, he will run away. If this is the case, you may have to walk and explore the area to find it instead of flying around looking for it.
Warning
- Latios moves to many other locations if you fly towards him. Try flying to a nearby place and then start walking or cycling. If you run, he may still be there but there is also a chance that he may have left.
- If you don't have Wobbufet or Trapinch, use Zubat or Golbat.
- If you have a White Flute (the flute that lures Pokemon to the place), use it.
