This article teaches you how to find out if the person in question has read a message you sent on Android. Most default messaging apps don't have this feature, but WhatsApp, Viber, and Facebook Messenger have it from the start.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Enabling Read Receipts for Android Text
Step 1. Open the Android Messages app
Most Androids just have a plain texting app that doesn't include a message that reads a message, but who knows your device does.
Unless you and the person involved use the same app to send messages (and both have read messages), this method won't work
Step 2. Tap the icon menu
This icon is usually in the form of ⁝ or ≡ in one of the top corners of the screen.
Step 3. Tap Settings
Step 4. Tap on Advanced
Depending on the model, you may not have this option. The text can be “Text Messages” or another similar option.
Step 5. Turn on the option for “Read Receipts”
Again, this option is not always available on Android. This option lets you know when the message was opened by the recipient.
If you see an option that says Delivery Reports, be aware that this is only a report that the message has been sent to the recipient's phone, not that people have opened the message to read it.
Method 2 of 4: Using Facebook Messenger
Step 1. Open Facebook Messenger on Android
The icon is a blue chat bubble with a white lightning bolt inside. Usually this icon is on the home screen or app drawer.
Facebook Messenger includes a feature that allows users to see when a message has been read
Step 2. Tap the person you want to message
The chat page will open.
Step 3. Type and send the message
The message will appear in the chat.
Step 4. Look at the small icon in the lower right corner of the sent message
- If you see a check mark in the white circle, it means you've sent a message and are on your way. The message has not yet arrived on the receiving device.
- If there's a check mark in the blue circle, the message has arrived in the recipient's Messenger, but he hasn't opened or read it yet.
- See if your friend's profile picture replaces the check mark. This means that the message has been read.
Method 3 of 4: Using WhatsApp
Step 1. Open WhatsApp on Android
This app has a green icon with a white chat bubble containing the handset. Usually this icon is on the home screen or app drawer.
Step 2. Tap the person you want to message
The chat page will open.
Step 3. Type and send the message
A message will appear at the bottom of the chat page.
Step 4. Look at the icon in the lower right corner of the message
This icon indicates whether the message has been read or not.
- If you see a gray tick, it means the message has not been sent to the recipient's WhatsApp. It is possible that the recipient application is not yet open.
- The two gray ticks icon means the message was sent but the recipient hasn't read it.
- When the two ticks turn blue, it means that the recipient has read the message.
Method 4 of 4: Using Viber
Step 1. Open Viber on Android
Purple icon with white bubble containing a phone receiver. Usually you find it on the home screen or in the app drawer.
Step 2. Tap the person you want to message
The chat page will open.
Step 3. Type and send the message
The message will be at the bottom of the chat page.
Step 4. Look at the gray text below the message
Here's how to tell if your message has been read by the recipient.
- If there is no gray text below the message, it means the message has been sent but has not yet reached the recipient's application. Maybe, the Viber is off or the phone is off.
- If you see the words "Delivered" (sent), it means that the message has been sent but the recipient has not opened it.
- If you see the words “Seen” (visible), it means that the recipient has read the message.
