This wikiHow teaches you how to change the name displayed for Android devices when using Bluetooth or other networks.

Method 1 of 2: Changing Device Name
Step 1. Open the device settings menu (“Settings”)
Use two fingers to swipe down from the top of the screen, then tap the gear icon in the settings menu or “ Settings ”
in the upper-right corner of the drop-down menu.
Step 2. Swipe the screen and touch About phone
This option is at the bottom of the settings menu (“Settings”).
Step 3. Find and touch the name of the Android device that is currently in use
You can find the name in the " About " menu. However, the exact location of the name will depend on the device manufacturer.
- On some Android devices, touch the option “ Device name ” on this menu.
- On a Samsung Galaxy device, touch the option “ EDIT ” below the currently used name, at the top of the “About phone” menu.
Step 4. Enter a name
Once the keyboard appears on the screen, type in the new name you want to use for your Android device.
Step 5. Touch OK or DONE.
Now the phone will display a new name when connected to Bluetooth, wireless network, or computer.
Method 2 of 2: Changing Bluetooth Name
Step 1. Open the notification drawer
Use two fingers to swipe down from the top of the screen until a drop-down menu appears.
Keep in mind that this method cannot be followed on Samsung Galaxy devices. You need to use the settings menu or “Settings” to change the phone name
Step 2. Press and hold the Bluetooth icon
long enough.
The Bluetooth menu will be displayed after a second or two.
Step 3. Touch "Off" switch for Bluetooth
After touching, the switch color will turn blue
which indicates that Bluetooth is enabled on the device.
- Bluetooth must be enabled in order for you to change the name of your Android device through this method.
- Skip this step if the " Off " or " Bluetooth " switch is already on.
Step 4. Touch the button
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear after that.
Step 5. Touch Rename this device
This option is in the drop-down menu.
If you don't find the option " Rename ”, you may not be able to change the device name via the Bluetooth settings page. Try using the device settings menu.
Step 6. Enter a name
Once the keyboard appears on the screen, type in the new name you want to use for the device.
Step 7. Touch OK or RENAME.
Now the phone will display with a new name when connected to a Bluetooth network (eg car stereo).
