Catching Mesprit is not easy because this Pokémon will run away when you fight it and you will have to look for it again in another location. However, there are tricks you can use to find them easily. Read this wikiHow to find out how!
Step
Part 1 of 3: Preparing for the Party
Step 1. Defeat Team Galactic
To find Mesprit, you must continue the game's story until you defeat Team Galactic by fighting Cyrus and capturing Dialga or Palkia. You can reach this part of the story automatically after you defeat the seventh Gym Leader and attack Team Galactic Headquarters.
Step 2. Enter a Pokémon that has Move Surf into the Party
You need a Pokémon that has Surf to reach the Verity Cavern where Mesprit is. You may already have a Pokémon that has Surf because some locations in the beginning of the game can only be reached with that Move.
Step 3. Choose a Pokémon that is below level 50 with a high Speed status as the first Pokémon in the Party
This Pokémon must have a Speed stat above 80 in order to get its first turn against Mesprit. If the Pokémon gets its first turn, you can attack it with a Status Ailment attack before Mesprit escapes. Make sure your Pokémon is below level 50 for the Repel effect to work when you hunt Mesprit.
- Make sure the Pokémon has a Move that can cause Sleep, Freeze, or Paralyze. This can speed up the process of capturing Mesprit.
- It's a good idea to have a Pokémon that has Bug, Ghost, or Dark attacks because these three types of attacks are very effective against Mesprit. You can also use False Swipe attacks to reduce Mesprit's hit points without making him faint (faint). However, this attack may not be as powerful as other attacks.
- To prevent Mesprit from escaping, you can use the Shadow Tag owned by Wobbuffet or Wynaut. Make sure Wobbuffet or Wynaut is selected as the first Pokémon in the Party. However, note that Wobbuffet is so slow compared to Mesprit that this Pokémon probably won't be able to beat it.
Step 4. Buy Ultra Balls or Dusk Balls and Repels in bulk
Mesprit is one of the hardest Pokémon to catch, so you'll need an Ultra Ball or a Dusk Ball. Dusk Balls have the highest chance of catching Pokémon, but can only be used in caves or at night. Make sure you have at least 40 Ultra Balls or Dusk Balls or more. It's also a good idea to buy lots of Repels to avoid getting attacked by other Pokémon when looking for Mesprit.
Step 5. Get the Marking Map in Jubilife City
You can get a Marking Map from the Poketch Company in Jubilife City. The tool will tell you if Mesprit is in the same location as you. To get this tool, you must find three clowns in Jubilife City and answer their questions.
You can find these three clowns next to the Pokémon Center, in front of the Poketch Company headquarters, and in front of a television station
Part 2 of 3: Looking for Mesprit
Step 1. Go to Lake Verity
After you defeat Team Galactic and prepare for the Party, head to Lake Verity to make Mesprit appear. Flying to Twinleaf Town with Move Fly is the fastest way to reach this lake.
Step 2. Use Move Surf to surf to the middle of the lake
You'll find the Verity Cavern entrance in the middle of the lake.
Step 3. Enter the Verity Cavern
You will see Mesprit in the center of the room.
Step 4. Talk to Mesprit in the cave
Mesprit will run away when you talk to him. After that, Professor Rowan will appear in the cave and tell you that Mesprit is now roaming Sinnoh and you can track him on the map.
A wandering Pokémon like Mesprit will move to another location each time you enter an area. This will make it difficult for you to track them down. However, there are tricks you can use to find them quickly
Step 5. Go to Route 205 or Valley Windworks
Walking between these two locations is the most effective way to find wandering Pokémon because both locations are close to tall grass and contain low-level wild Pokémon.
Step 6. Move between these two locations to make Mesprit switch locations
Every time you enter another area, Mesprit will go to another location in Sinnoh. Mesprit's position will flash on the Marking Map at the bottom of the screen.
Mesprit moves to other locations randomly, so you will have to enter other areas often until you and Mesprit are in the same location
Step 7. Use Repel when you and Mesprit are in the same location
If you and Mesprit are in the same area, use Repel so you don't run into other wild Pokémon. If you run into another Pokémon or fight a Trainer, Mesprit will move to another area and you'll have to start over.
Step 8. Save game data (save game)
It's a good idea to save your game data before fighting Mesprit. If you fail to catch it, you can load game data and fight it again.
Step 9. Walk in the tall grass area or surf until you meet Mesprit
When you use Repel, you will not encounter any other Pokémon that have a lower level than the first Pokemon in the Party. This prevents you from fighting wild Pokémon in these two areas. If the first Pokémon in a Party is over level 50, Repel will prevent you from finding Mesprit.
Part 3 of 3: Capturing Mesprit
Step 1. Fight Mesprit with a Status Ailment attack on your first turn
The first step you have to do is make Mesprit get a Status Ailment of the type Freeze, Paralyze, or Sleep. This will facilitate the capture process. When you attack him, Mesprit will immediately run away. However, Mesprit will still have Status Ailment when you fight him again.
You can use the Master Ball to catch Mesprit in one try. However, it's a good idea to use it to catch other rare Pokémon that are more difficult to catch
Step 2. Walk between Route 205 and Windworks until Mesprit reappears
After Mesprit escapes from the first fight, you can walk between Route 205 and Valley Windworks until he reappears. Remember to use Repel again when you and Mesprit are in the same location. After that, walk in the tall grass area or surf to find Mesprit.
Step 3. Fight Mesprit with an attack that is Bug, Ghost, or Dark
This attack will reduce a lot of Mesprit's hit points to yellow or even red if you're lucky. After attacking him, Mesprit will run away again. However, Mesprit's hit points will remain the same when you fight him again.
If you accidentally knock Mesprit unconscious, you'll need to load your game data and try to fight it again
Step 4. Find Mesprit again
Mesprit will run away every time you finish the first turn. Therefore, you have to walk and enter other areas until you and Mesprit are in the same location. Remember to use Repel when you and Mesprit are in the same area.
Step 5. Reduce Mesprit's hit point to red
To reduce Mesprit's hit points to red, you can use normal attacks that are not effective or use False Swipe until Mesprit's hit points drop to 1. Every time Mesprit escapes, you must walk between these two locations until he reappears.
Make sure you don't knock Mesprit out! If Mesprit faints, you'll need to load the game data and try again
Step 6. Throw a Quick Ball when the Mesprit hit point is red
If Mesprit's hit point is red, throw a Quick Ball on your first turn. If you're lucky, you'll catch Mesprit on the first try. However, it was highly likely that Mesprit would be able to escape and escape again.
Step 7. Find Mesprit again and throw a Quick Ball every time you fight him
Mesprit will run away when you use the first turn. This means that you can only throw a Quick Ball once in each battle. You may have to fight Mesprit 20 to 30 times. However, you will catch it by following this method.
