This wikiHow teaches you how to use an internet browser with TOR on iPhone to prevent advertising services, internet service providers, or cookies from tracking internet usage. TOR uses encryption to redirect iPhone IP addresses to servers around the world so that your IP address cannot be traced without internet knowledge or more sophisticated software. Keep in mind that there are some sites on TOR that don't look “natural” when you search, and some sites contain harmful or illegal content. Do the search carefully and wisely.
Step
Step 1. Open the App Store
This app is marked by a blue icon with a white “A” inside a white circle.
Step 2. Touch Search
It's a magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3. Touch the search bar
This bar is at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Type "TOR" and tap Search
A list of browsers with the TOR feature will be displayed.
Step 5. Choose a browser with TOR feature
Browse the list and choose the browser that best suits your needs.
- VPN Browser and Red Onion are among the free options with good reviews.
- Keep in mind that some browsers are offered for free, while others are paid apps. If you want to use a paid browser, look for a browser with positive ratings and read some reviews before buying the app.
Step 6. Touch GET
It's a blue button to the right of the selected app.
If the selected application is not a free application, a price button will be displayed instead of the " GET " button
Step 7. Touch INSTALL
This button is the previously touched button to get to the app. The browser will immediately download to the device.
You may need to enter your Apple ID or scan Touch ID before the download begins
Step 8. Touch Open
Once the download is complete, the button previously touched to start the download will change to an "OPEN" button.
Step 9. Touch Connect to TOR if prompted
The Red Onion browser uses this command, while the VPN Browser does not display the command. Many browsers (but not all) will ask you to connect your device to the TOR network.
Step 10. Start browsing the internet
You are now connected to the TOR network on your iPhone. TOR makes your browsing location difficult to track by directing browser requests to various relays at random.
Warning
- Only use TOR-enabled browsers on iOS 9 or later. The encryption updates that Apple provides in these latest versions allow the TOR browser to function with greater anonymity.
- Cross-device TOR integration is not yet available for iPhone.
- Some TOR browsers may leak IP addresses when you access sites with videos or active content.
- TOR keeps your internet browsing anonymous as long as you don't divulge your IP address or browsing location yourself. Do not share your IP address with others or open suspicious links.
