Method 1 of 2: Turn on the Keyboard Light

Step 1. Verify that your HP Pavilion computer model supports the keyboard backlighting feature
The keyboard backlight feature is only available on HP Pavilion dv series notebook computers (dv4, dv5, dv6, dv7).
Refer to the description affixed to the bottom of your HP Pavilion computer to find out the model name or product number of the computer

Step 2. Press the F5 key on the keyboard to turn on or activate the keyboard backlight

Step 1. Unplug all peripherals plugged in your HP Pavilion laptop
Peripherals are external devices connected to the computer, such as a mouse, USB drive, or media card.

Step 2. Disconnect the AC adapter plugged into your computer

Step 3. Remove the battery from the laptop
You can remove the battery in the HP Pavilion by sliding and holding the latch to release the battery. Then use your finger to remove the battery.

Step 4. Press and hold the power button on the computer for at least 15 seconds

Step 5. Plug the AC adapter into the computer, then press the power button
